Set up and customise your own Fantasy draft leagues for free with Fantrax

Sponsored by Fantrax

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to join forces with Fantrax for the 2021/22 season.

Fantrax is a free, draft-style Fantasy platform that offers managers the chance to set up their own mini-leagues with friends, family and work colleagues and completely customise their own league rules and scoring system.

Picture the scene: no tedious ‘template’ teams, no captaincy pot-luck misery, points for the long-overlooked defensive midfielders and not a single mention of effective ownership in sight.

Oh, and only one person can roster each of the premium assets such as Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane and Sadio Mane. Fantasy nirvana.

Sign up to Fantrax for free today and you could be in with a chance of winning a Premier League jersey of your choice, as you’ll be automatically entered into a draw upon registration:

What is ‘Draft’?

You may have played the Fantasy Premier League Draft before or perhaps Original Fantasy League – or neither.

Together with Fantrax, they’re all from the same family and start with the same premise.

At the beginning of the season, each of the managers in your mini-league will draft their 16-man squad from the pool of available players.

Where draft differs from regular FPL is that no two people in the same league can roster the same asset – so there will only be one manager with Mohamed Salah in their squad, one with Kevin De Bruyne, one with Jack Grealish. And so on.

The Draft Process

Above: The Scout team doing their draft preparation in pre-social distancing times

For anyone who hasn’t taken part in a draft before, it is a hugely entertaining and fiercely competitive event.

All the managers in a mini-league (FanTrax suggests 10-12 for optimum enjoyment) gather virtually to assemble their squads, with the draft taking place in a ‘snake’ format.

For example: if you’re drawn second in a 12-team mini-league draft, you’ll get second go in the opening round of picks but will have to go 11th in the next. That pattern repeats until everyone’s squad is filled.

Get your watchlist preparation in order, as your mini-league mates will soon be snaffling up the prized players at terrifying leg speeds. Trent Alexander-Arnold? Gone. Dominic Calvert-Lewin? Taken. Ollie Watkins? Just missed him.

Suddenly, you’ll have to think on your feet and draw upon your Fantasy nous – so you will need to know your Buendias from your Bissoumas on Draft Day to best your competitors.

The intense rivalry doesn’t stop there.

Once the season starts, you’ll be pitting your starting XI against a mini-league friend, family member or workmate every week in a head-to-head format.

And you’ll be able to tap into your potential to spot a differential throughout the campaign by dipping into the free agent pool, as you attempt to enlist the services of the next mid-season wonder like Raphinha or Ilkay Gundogan.

Why Fantrax over the others?

Fantasy Leagues on Fantrax Fantasy Basketball

In one word: customisation. You’re not tied to preset rules or a rigid scoring system with Fantrax and can shape your league in pretty much any way imaginable.

Want points rewarded for aerial duels won? Easy. Longing for successful crosses to be recognised by a Fantasy game? Done. Think successful take-ons should be as important as a clean sheet? Just point and click.

Or do you want to go back to basics with none of the above? Also fine.

Suddenly, the likes of N’Golo Kante and Wilfred Ndidi can become hot property having been a mere footnote in FPL.

The icing on the cake: if you’re coming from another draft service, Fantrax can import any of your current leagues and customise if needed.

Here are just some of the myriad other selling points for Fantrax over their competitors:

  • You are able to decide everything from roster sizes and how trades/ waiver claims are processed to when line-ups are locked for changes on match days – even which Premier League teams’ players feature in your league!
  • Squad make-ups are customisable: if you want to roster eight midfielders or trade a defender for a forward, the world is your oyster.
  • Live statistical data from Opta, which essentially means that anything that they report on, Fantrax can use. This means that the scoring system can be as complex or as simple as you like.
  • Trustworthy servers and real-time updates on the scores: as soon as a goal goes in, the points are there.

Depends on the rest of the players. I heard there’s some top murderers in HMP Liverpool, so could be one to watch.

Bit out there, but what's the thoughts on 1 4 mil defender and the other four 4.5 mil defenders? That would allow for salah Bruno and kane?

Correct. I've got a little more tied up in defense, but I am tinkering with putting a cap on defenders @ 4.5

There are good 4.5s but some of the 5.5s are way better. If he stays fit, Digne will score twice as many points as Fofana.

Digne starts every game, takes free kicks and corners, gets plenty of assists, and Everton defence should improve under Rafa. Fofana isn’t a guaranteed starter and gets no attacking points.

    Thoughts on this draft??

    Pickford
    TAA Shaw Lamptey

You know you've been looking at FPL too long when you end up considering Auba and Werner as a strike partnership.
Tuchel clearly likes Werner so no worries about him not being nailed unless Chelsea make a huge signing like Haaland which is unlikely, Werner started 5 out of the last 6 games of the season and also started both semis and the final of the CL.
Auba... well I can't justify how he ended up in my team lol.

      Correct, goodnight 🙂

Werner at 9.0 and Auba at 10.0 just cannot be considered.

So many options at cheaper that it's just so hard to get excited.

Aubameyang has Brentford, Norwich, Burnley in his first 5, plenty of reason to justify it. No europe as well.

So heres my draft, absence of Man Utd players is deliberate so no Bruno/Shaw/Cavani/etc.
3-4-3 with occasional 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 an option

    Sanchez / 4.0
    Robbo TAA Digne Ayling White
    Salah / Son / Raphina / ESR / 4.5
    DCL / Watkins / Nacho
    0.5m ITB

Three other versions with Robbo/Son for Mane/5.0 Def, Sanchez/Ayling/Digne for Meslier/Lamptey/5.0 and Watkins/ESR for Toney/Buendia have formed earlier drafts. White might be Aarons as a punt.

Still very early but anything obvious or one of the other versions seems more viable?

One of the best balanced teams I've seen recently. Why no Man U though? If you're a City supporter then that makes sense - I'm a Gooner so last year I missed out on all the Kane/Son points and I'll have no Spurs players again this season.

Not City but along those lines. This is supposed to be a fun game and I want to avoid the inevitable internal conflict that comes with hoping Man Utd will score goals or keep clean sheets 🙂

I would be fine to get rid of Bruno to Son if there was not so much uncertainty regarding Spurs atm and fixtures were a bit better. For now Bruno is just much safer as you know what your getting there

Gilmour at Norwich, Brownhill at Burnley and Bissouma at Brighton (although people seem to think he'll leave)

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

You shouldn't choose Bissouma anyway as there's a chance Brighton start well, and you want 3 active assets. You're highly unlikely to want to triple on Norwich or Burnley, so the other 2 are good choices to decorate the end of your bench.

Sarr spot I'm consider B.Traore...6.0m mid people have massively ignore potential explosive player and going for Buendia.

Stones is feeling interesting to me.
Not sure that Dias is worth the extra.

And if Stones is rotated out (which I don't expect much) then I'll have a decent enough bench to cover.

Maybe - Stones was great too, and at this stage there's no reason to think he's not preferred.
And if he is rested for for a game he won't come on from the bench.

I think his goal threat is genuine, and higher than any of the CBs on City.

Also we got transfers if we need them...

Maybe I’m being nostalgic but I genuinely don’t remember when players were deemed so essential and the template was so strong that you post a team and immediately is drilled with the same old players that you ‘should have’. It’s odd. I’m talking 5 years ago atleast.

Do people genuinely think they’re going to start well if they just pick the template completely?

    1. IN SANE IN DE BRUYNE

It's because of bad pricing of players.

Don't agree. Or mostly at least.

If Chelsea/Man City had better fixtures to start and Villa/Man Utd had worse, the 'template' would look a lot different.

But Chelsea have Palace and Arsenal?! Pretty decent fixtures imo. City have Norwich and Southampton; Tottenham and Arsenal are not bad either - lots of goal for city usually!

True. Little bit more context required: one was under Lampard and the game under Tuchel was 3/4 days before the FA Cup final. Tuchel good record against the ‘bigger teams’ too.

It’s fear and spoon-feeding. More people would be questioning Fernandes’ form and the unknown’s of Liverpool e.g. Konate, impact of no Wijnaldum, how VVD will recover.

it seems a lot of fear is involved too.

from what i understand, starting poorly is very detrimental to final OR.
and so if you stick to 75% of popular picks you're limiting downside risk - i'm assuming because people here think they will make correct decisions going forward.

Last year was pretty extreme. If you had the right players in the first 4 GWs while some teams were scoring loads of goals, you could get way ahead.

Not sure if people are ready if this winds up being a more normal year.

          I ended up 1,500 OR.

(This was my first year so I was learning along the way - this year I’d probably jump on those popular picks for better/worse?)

the problem is if you start with TAA + 2 premiums (Salah Bruno) then the rest of the team practically picks itself, on the other hand if you start with 1 premium and no TAA like i'm probably going to do then you can have a lot more freedom and variation on who you can pick, but yeah the fomo's on here will generally tell you its too risky to go without as if they're the only players that can score points 😆

I’m leaning TAA and Salah only and hoping I hit on 2 of my 4 midfielders from 6.5 to 9.0.

To get to Bruno will take two moves and I think the upside is elsewhere.

I still say that's nonsense - for many anyway. I picked my draft paying zero attention to ownership or early drafts. It so happens that the majority of my picks are also in the current template. What that tells me is the template choices are there on merit.

    Salah Fernandez Grealesh Sar (Gilmour)

I like the front but personally I don’t feel comfortably with only 3 playing/nailed defenders.

If it were me I’d get the 1.5 and do Williams > 5.5 like Shaw, Digne, Stones.

But if you’re comfortable with the 3 at the back I think the forward 7 looks awesome.

More of a template team here because all I see is fear on this site. Thoughts?

    Sanchez
    TAA Castagne Fofana
    Salah Fernandes Mahrez Buendia B.Traore
    Wilson Toney

    Bachmann Ait-Nouri Coady Davis

(B.Traore can become El Ghazi - whoever likely to start)

I’d argue TAA isn’t worth 7.5m nor Bruno on current form. These are the main two. The rest I don’t think are ‘fear’ picks.

        1. Andy_Social
          • 11 Years

I don't have Bruno myself, but I don't accuse people choosing him as acting out of fear. There are perfectly rational reasons for doing so. I just happen to currently think there are more rational reasons for going with a combo of Son and Mahrez, thus leaving Bruno out. I may change my mind, based on reasoned arguments.

I’m generalising of course, but I would apply fear to some people choosing him most certainly. You make sound judgment. If Bruno was in form you would pick him and you wouldn’t be having Son + Mahrez.

Castagne is nice at 5.5 with those fixtures? Wolves defence for the hard Leicester game. Double up defence is my philosophy. It’s always worked for me in the past.

It’s a fair point. I’d play Sanchez 1-3. Bachmann good 4-7. I like two playing keepers as it hopefully reduces a need for a FT if my chosen 4.5 goalkeeper is wrong and starts bad e.g. those choosing Ramsdale last year.

Not 100% sure here Konate does start personally.

Big fee of course but he was brought in primarily because of lack of bodies really there was he not? He's also young and perhaps not the finished product and I suspect he might be the VVD trainee as opposed to the Matip replacement.

Amusingly Liverpool have chosen to solve the injury crisis by bringing in a player with a terrible injury record so I'm guessing there'll be churn anyway given Matip Gomez record. Just a guess but don't see Konate at top of pecking order after VVD - comparatively poor passing accuracy apparently which doesn't sound very Liverpool.

            My order in FPL is

            TAA
            VVD
            ........
            Robbo
            .........
            No one

VVD typically matches Robbo for long-term value and the more I look at it the more useful that extra 1 mill over TAA feels in week 1. TAA in on double up will be very straightforward from any midrange attacker and given fixtures in 3 and 4 I'm not sure I want to shove 7.5 Liverpool defence in from the start.

            1. Andy_Social
              • 11 Years

Right. The interesting dilemma will be this: if Liverpool suffer another CB injury crisis, do you abandon TAA and/or Robbo, or do you think 'well, they managed in the end last season, so maybe they'll be okay this time'?

You'll make people very cross with that defence TAA and Shaw are compulsory on here.

In fact Keane is a really nice call and on a list for me - perhaps just behind Dunk - and I suspect possibly better value than Digne who is also popular.

Dias I'm less sure on having held him last season. City need cs or he becomes an expensive mistake. Will they get them? At some point you'd think but no particular reason to say early season is good for that.

Foden could be a neat call if he continuers his trajectory from last season. He neatly falls into player who is improving season on season and has a very high upside. Mount I doubt more.

DCL - not for me. Nacho every time and then once again.

      1. Drop Dead Tsimikas

Yeah, I had Nacho in an earlier draft. Bit concerned about the new kid they just brought in. But I see your point.

AWB > Shaw is easy. So is Dias > Stones, but Stones is less nailed, IMO. Mount to Buendia opens up funds alongside other moves to upgrade Obafemi to Toney.

I’m done wasting money on Liverpool defense.

People are spending the extra 0.5 of Digne for his set-pieces and crosses. I think he's better value than Keane.
Watford have got decent wingbacks according to the article here - I wouldn't be sure Rose starts. Foden will be
Peptated. Pukki has dreadful opening fixtures. I think that squad would make a slow start to the campaign.

If Everton are buying wingers and holding James then Digne looks dodgy value to me over Keane. Yes he will get forward and will get some set pieces but equally think his stats from last season would dive if he was consistently a fullback playing behind a winger.

Agree on Watford - had Rose pencilled in very tentatively - then Kiko - but now looking elsewhere.

Foden will get rests. But equally I can see him taking another step up this season and making that price look very cheap. He is a premium in waiting - this season may be too soon but....

We are buying Townsend and Gray. Squad players who can fill in.

Bernard is going. He’s on 100k a week, that’s way too much for a non starter.
Townsend and Gray probably won’t be on that combined.
We are cutting the wage bill. I expect Siggy and Rodriguez also to move on if a decent offer comes in and we can get a first team replacement.

Are you expecting wingbacks or fullbacks? I'd assumed fullbacks. The defensive quota looks really light right now so hard to tell.

(Vaguely amused at Townsend with his 50k plus wages being a cheap bench option (hadn't realised Bernard was that expensive a mistake). It's almost as it you are intentionally trying to piss Zaha off by signing every Palace winger bar him - especially now he's affordable.)

Yeh we got Bernard on a free with high wages on a long term contract.
Guess they reckon giving a player high wages with no transfer fee is justified. Same goes with Townsend.

It’s hard to tell at the moment. Will have to see the rest of pre season. I’m hoping we buy a right back. If not Coleman isn’t quick enough now, bless him to play as a wingback.

I don’t know whether I can cope with Richarlison and Zaha in the same side. Both sulking and moaning.

He gets you 7 very strong attackers and 7.5 5.5 5,5 at the back. Lots of ways to shuffle that money round.

What intrigues me is how he can also be covered for captaincy - if Mo is any good of course. There are very few weeks early on when he looks to be "necessary" there. Losing two Brunos is really high risk. Losing one Bruno is doable probs.

Strange really, the bods at Goodison giving Richarlison the nod for the Olympics.

    Like, 'Whatever, please yourself.'

Or am I reading into it too much?

Maybe he is leaving, so they dont really care

No he is not. They're letting him play to keep him happy - expecting him to come back and play well for Everton

With no pre-season, under a new gaffer?

Yeah there was a statement from Benitez that was basically “Richarlison owes us for letting him play both the Copa and the Olympics and we expect him to play extra good for us”

I recall a couple of weeks back he was threatening to leave Goodison, then he demanded to go to the Covidlympics. I assume the two are connected.

Spent a bit of time on this Salah draft this morning and I really like it...plenty of differentials and Pep roulette always a thing but seems fairly solid overall and do like my risky fun picks...Losing Son & Robertson the biggest blows as I like those two...Not 100% confident in my GK but Everton have good opening fixtures and I love the kit colour lol!
    Thoughts?

    Pickford
    Trent Castagne Cancelo
    Salah Havertz Greenwood Torres
    Cavani Wilson Toney
    (Virginia Lamptey White Gilmour)

I'm coming round to Cavani a bit, I must say.

I almost need a huge transfer (such as Kane to City) before deadline to force me into a new draft as I'll find it tough to choose between my three current drafts and whether to go Salah or not. Think I'm almost 100% going without Bruno.

My settle but alas templatey draft has Cavani, Nacho and Toney. My thinking is Cavani will start the season and get decent minutes until CL kicks in and Rashford is back. I'm not considering him for long-term - maybe up to my wildcard.

Nice thing about Cavani is you can get to all but 5 forwards from his price. So if he doesn’t work out it’s easy to move on with 1 transfer.

If a 7.5 starts strong and goes up 0.1 before you move it can be annoying to get to.

agree he's not a long term hold at all...I almost always wildcard after 2-3 GWs anyway lol

For me, 4 first-choice players who might not be regular starters is a risk too far.

Would be horribly unlucky if all those didn't play tbf and I like their upside a lot

      🙂

One risk too far for me - I'd want to be sure that I got two mids on the pitch anyway. Also Cancelo doesn't do it for me - he is Castagne without the returns unless you hold him for 38 weeks!

I'd personably squeeze the money out for Foden over Torres. Torres could be fun but Foden would be a premium.

Perhaps wrong think but Cavani Greenwood is an either/or for me. It might be right think if OGS sees it my way.

Get your concerns, cheers Pingy, but I think Pep likes Torres and he'll get more game time (Foden could be as equal a punt for 1.0 more imo).
I also see Ole starting with Cavani spearheaded the attack with Greenwood playing out wide especially with Rashford looking likely to be out early part of season and Sancho possibly eased into action in opening GWs...all guesswork and no right and wrongs atm
