Set up and customise your own Fantasy draft leagues for free with Fantrax

Sponsored by Fantrax

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to join forces with Fantrax for the 2021/22 season.

Fantrax is a free, draft-style Fantasy platform that offers managers the chance to set up their own mini-leagues with friends, family and work colleagues and completely customise their own league rules and scoring system.

Picture the scene: no tedious ‘template’ teams, no captaincy pot-luck misery, points for the long-overlooked defensive midfielders and not a single mention of effective ownership in sight.

Oh, and only one person can roster each of the premium assets such as Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane and Sadio Mane. Fantasy nirvana.

Sign up to Fantrax for free today and you could be in with a chance of winning a Premier League jersey of your choice, as you’ll be automatically entered into a draw upon registration:

What is ‘Draft’?

You may have played the Fantasy Premier League Draft before or perhaps Original Fantasy League – or neither.

Together with Fantrax, they’re all from the same family and start with the same premise.

At the beginning of the season, each of the managers in your mini-league will draft their 16-man squad from the pool of available players.

Where draft differs from regular FPL is that no two people in the same league can roster the same asset – so there will only be one manager with Mohamed Salah in their squad, one with Kevin De Bruyne, one with Jack Grealish. And so on.

The Draft Process

Above: The Scout team doing their draft preparation in pre-social distancing times

For anyone who hasn’t taken part in a draft before, it is a hugely entertaining and fiercely competitive event.

All the managers in a mini-league (FanTrax suggests 10-12 for optimum enjoyment) gather virtually to assemble their squads, with the draft taking place in a ‘snake’ format.

For example: if you’re drawn second in a 12-team mini-league draft, you’ll get second go in the opening round of picks but will have to go 11th in the next. That pattern repeats until everyone’s squad is filled.

Get your watchlist preparation in order, as your mini-league mates will soon be snaffling up the prized players at terrifying leg speeds. Trent Alexander-Arnold? Gone. Dominic Calvert-Lewin? Taken. Ollie Watkins? Just missed him.

Suddenly, you’ll have to think on your feet and draw upon your Fantasy nous – so you will need to know your Buendias from your Bissoumas on Draft Day to best your competitors.

The intense rivalry doesn’t stop there.

Once the season starts, you’ll be pitting your starting XI against a mini-league friend, family member or workmate every week in a head-to-head format.

And you’ll be able to tap into your potential to spot a differential throughout the campaign by dipping into the free agent pool, as you attempt to enlist the services of the next mid-season wonder like Raphinha or Ilkay Gundogan.

Why Fantrax over the others?

Fantasy Leagues on Fantrax Fantasy Basketball

In one word: customisation. You’re not tied to preset rules or a rigid scoring system with Fantrax and can shape your league in pretty much any way imaginable.

Want points rewarded for aerial duels won? Easy. Longing for successful crosses to be recognised by a Fantasy game? Done. Think successful take-ons should be as important as a clean sheet? Just point and click.

Or do you want to go back to basics with none of the above? Also fine.

Suddenly, the likes of N’Golo Kante and Wilfred Ndidi can become hot property having been a mere footnote in FPL.

The icing on the cake: if you’re coming from another draft service, Fantrax can import any of your current leagues and customise if needed.

Here are just some of the myriad other selling points for Fantrax over their competitors:

  • You are able to decide everything from roster sizes and how trades/ waiver claims are processed to when line-ups are locked for changes on match days – even which Premier League teams’ players feature in your league!
  • Squad make-ups are customisable: if you want to roster eight midfielders or trade a defender for a forward, the world is your oyster.
  • Live statistical data from Opta, which essentially means that anything that they report on, Fantrax can use. This means that the scoring system can be as complex or as simple as you like.
  • Trustworthy servers and real-time updates on the scores: as soon as a goal goes in, the points are there.

Both are great options, Raph edges it for me as he takes more setpieces and Bielsa does have a tendency to hook Harrison around 60 minutes sometimes (definitely less so towards the end of last season though)

If no 4.0 defenders emerge during this pre season, would you rather start the season with a non playing 4.0 defender to sit last on your bench, and starting with 3 playing forwards. Or start the season with a non playing 4.5 forward last on bench which will confine you to playing 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 every week until you WC

Push come to shove, I'd have two £4.5m defs and a £4.5m mid, all backup.

I'm on two £4.5m mids right now though. Bargains all over.

Only 3 midfield selections is somewhat dangerous considering this position usually scores the most.

I am a bit tempted by Foden tbh, as I think he can get decent gametime and could be a good-upside differential. But still, currently not in my draft

City are on a different level. A grey fixture for them should be bright blue, and a red one grey.

I just don't see tonnes of goals in those fixtures so when you add in rotation I'm not sure they're worth the risk early doors. May well be proved wrong of course

Until around GW14 they only play one Premier League fixture a week.

So surely not a lot of rotation before then?

Most top teams play 2nd string sides in the early stages of the cups.

People forget how slowly Man City started last year though, they had a decidely underwhelming first half of the season

They got hammered by Leciester in GW3, then scored 5 goals in their next 6 league games GW4-9, then a teasing 5-0 vs Burnley GW10, then 4 goals in the next 4 games GW11-14…

Horrible stuff, it wasn’t until KDB dropped out of the team that they really clicked

They had no pre-season, United struggled at the start too as a result.

And Pep changed the way City play in November. He describes it at the start of this interview: https://youtu.be/oeH66Ny2vKQ

Brighton should be a good defence and are cheap so therefore shouldn't be a problem to double up - the issue is psychological more than anything else.

People stating that they have perfected their team already are mental!
There are so many variables and unanswered questions at this point that won't be answered until the day before GW1 kicks off.
    - transfers
    - injuries
    - likely team line-ups
    - set piece takers
    - OOP players / wingbacks
    - emergence of a starting £4.0m defender or £4.5/5.0m forward

Any RMTs posted at present are just for fun.

Totally disagree. I think “mental” is a tad strong! I’ve got my basic structure sorted and placeholders for the 15 in terms of players which might vary slightly for the points you raise, however, none of my work is pointless in fact it’s actually really enjoyable.

I'm not saying it isn't enjoyable, that's why I said just for fun. I've seen multiple posts saying along the lines of 'all set', 'locked in', 'good to go' etc... I guarantee not a single one of them has the same team come GW1.

Good luck finding a calm, measured response to an RMT post the day before GW1 kicks off. Sure, we need to keep an eye on developments but you should have a picture of who you want in your team, and reduce the number of last minute decisions you have to make.

Has anyone considered that DCL could be on pens this season. Unconfirmed, but whispers that Rafa may give it to him. With that plus more crosses coming into the box 8.0m is excellent value. Gylfi is current penalty taker.

from a previous post above, the 3rd defender is giving me the most indecision.

Very good- would suggest Coufal over Digne and possibly get 4.5 defender ahead of Manquillo ( Ayling/Fofana) or even keep .5 in bank so you can move on any early bandwagon

yes, ideally I would choose a 4.5/5.0 in place of Digne but I am not fancy to any selection as it stands.

Hey lads, trying to be a bit different early. Can justify the selections

    Sanchez
    TAA Chilwell Wan-Bissaka
    Bruno Son Mahrez Smith-Rowe
    Werner Watkins Toney

    Foster Ayling Manquillo Gilmour

      Werner and ESR?

Hearing the manger likes Timo, year in the prem and surely he improves. Probably a bit wild but who knows, ESR bit of a punt if he stays with the gunners. they have fairly easy fixtures and can be rotated with Ayling

Werner started 5 out of the last 6 games of the season and also started both semis and the final of the CL.

      Pickford? Front 8 headache?

Front 8 could be a bit of a headache raphina will play mostly I could drop Esr to Gilmour or another 4.5. I fancy Everton to be better defensively under Rafa.

Then again you have Lamptey and Ayling rotating on the bench , so actually take the mil

I quite like the look of Wellbeck as 3rd attacker.
Either him or Toney, but fixture wise I may like to punt on the former...

Actually like the look of this. Mount could be a transfer booking with his fixtures post-GW1 though.

    Sanchez
    Alexander-Arnold Shaw Cresswell Digne
    Salah Fernandes Bowen Mount
    Cavani Watkins

    Gunn Gilmour Hoever Obafemi
    0.0m ITB

    > Backline are attacking fullbacks/wingbacks with set piece responsibilites
    > Salah and Bruno provide the 2 premiums neeede for a 'safe' structure/cap options.
    > Bowen the differential. Comments from manager and teammates suggest he's got a point to prove this season. Has a share of set pieces with Cresswell.
    > Cavani I think likely to start off the season unchallenged, as the CF with Greenwood and Sancho flanking.
    > Watkins becomes Jimmy GW4

    Thoughts?

Haven't seen Kane in a single RMT. Wouldn't touch Spurs until GW3.

Antonio been given the number 9 shirt but we’re also looking like signing abraham. Surely Tammy starts if West Ham sign him which would make him a silly bargain at 6.5m

Would love to have a 6.5m West Ham striker. Although are we so sure Antonio is so easily displaced?

Why would abraham join West Ham if he wasn’t promised to start us all I would wonder, plus Antonio is injury prone after all

Starting XI 8/10 - Palace will concede a tonne this season and Fofana should be your backup option not a starter.
Bench 1/10 - you are in trouble if a few miss GW1.
