International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who will miss Gameweek 4?

The first international break of the season got underway today, with not far off 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Some national sides are cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their nations’ respective matches.

Others won’t be featuring at all, with the Premier League clubs digging their heels in and (mostly) refusing to release players for national team duty if they are representing, or playing a match in, a country on the UK government’s red list.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Raphinha (£6.5m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Richarlison (£7.6m) look set to have the fortnight off and – as it stands – be available for Gameweek 4, then, although the threat of five-day sanctions beyond the international window for Brazil players still hangs in the air at present.

Who Will Miss Out in Gameweek 4?

Toney off the mark as injuries and Covid impact Villa 3

Anyone travelling to a red-list country faces quarantine for 10 full days in a managed hotel on their return to the UK, and Premier League players are no exception.

As far as we’re aware, there are only five such FPL assets who fall into this category in the September international break.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m), Emiliano Buendia (£6.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£4.5m), Giovani Lo Celso (£5.9m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) have been given permission by their clubs to head to South America and all of them will miss Gameweek 4 as a result.

The quintet are available for their countries’ first two World Cup qualifying matches but will not take part in the third international match – meaning that their quarantine periods will have ended by the time Gameweek 5 comes around.

OTHER PLAYERS WHOSE COUNTRIES FACE RED-LIST NATIONS

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 3?

You may notice some players in the club-by-club list below whose names we originally listed as being at risk of missing Gameweek 4 if they went away on international duty.

There is a compromise of sorts for these FPL assets: they are being allowed to represent their countries but in only the fixtures not staged in a red-list nation.

For example, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is being allowed to turn out for Jamaica in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at home to Panama on Sunday.

But Antonio will miss the Reggae Boyz’ other two games, away at Mexico and Costa Rica, as both of those countries are on the UK’s red list for international travel.

As a result, and barring injury or illness, he’ll be allowed to play in Gameweek 4 for West Ham.

      Gray/Traore/Trincao.

Gray, I’d be most confident with as he has proven he can do it this season. The other two look great but no returns.

Portugal losing World Cup qualifier to Ireland. 89th minute. You know what just happened….

Update. 96th minute. You know what just happened…

The goat now holds these outright records:
    * Most international goals
    * Most UCL goals
    * Most professional goals

        UCL

        Ronaldo Goals- 134 Appearances 176, Ratio 0.76

        Messi Goals 120, Appearances 149, Ratio 0.81

        Cough, PR goat for sure

Don't even want to look at the state of the international record, may lord have mercy on Lithuania Azerbaijan et all for what Ronaldo has done to them :O

No Ronaldo fan come for me please, he's my second best player of all time but Messi is clear in pretty much any metric you can throw other than heading

Messi literally didn’t score in a single Classico since Ronaldo left.... stat padding v Eibar & co.

Also the likes of Bolivia and Paraguay are hardly world beaters lol

Ronaldo holds the record in CL & International. He’s just the level up.

              2 years, 6 months ago

Why is that relevent when Messi clearly has the better UCL record, is that not the pinnacle? Better ratio of goals (the thing Ronaldo is supposed to be the best at) and that's before you even factor in chance creation, dribbles, assists, letting team mates have some penalties and freekicks

Ratio of goals isn’t relevant if you don’t go and score the highest number. There’s probably some chap who’s the answer to a pub quiz who scored in his only CL game with a ratio of 1.

Don’t forget Ronaldo started his CL out wide for Lisbon, before playing wide for United for years. So those additional games where he hasn’t scored really don’t mean much.

Ratio matters of course it does because we use common sense and ignore 1 goal 1 appearance type of data

Messi played wide for more games than Ronaldo I'd bet and I think Ronaldo played 1 champions League game for Lisbon

Both comments you've made here are daft. Messi has well more than enough appearances that ratio is the only thing that really matters. And he also did not play his whole career through the middle.

                  2 years, 6 months ago

P.s I think you'll be surprised to find but over the course of their careers Ronaldo scores more of his goals against weaker opposition, not hating on Ronaldo he's easily second best player of all time, made smarter career decisions than Messi and has kept himself in top shape but facts are facts, PR campaigns can't replace that

Could you have literally put even a minute or two into research before pulling that out of your rear? Below are the current FIFA rankings and (best FIFA rankings). Portugal very clearly play against weaker sides for all examples given. Qualifying games in Europe have a lot more weak sides than South/Central America.

                  Lithuania 134 (37)
                  Azerbaijan 112 (73)

                  Bolivia 81 (18)
                  Paraguay 33 (8)

Still 176 goals vs 120. That's 56 goals difference for you right there.

Ummm it's 134 goals for Ronaldo Vs 120 for Messi, 14 goals difference yet Ronaldo has 27 games more... And again that's before we even factor in football is a team game, assists, chance creation, dribbling are all important too

I’d also point out that Ron has been at that level in three different leagues in three different teams. Winning golden boots and titles in each. To be able to do that is unbelievable. Im not sure Messi would of done. I think Ronaldo tips it. Messi has the most natural talent with a ball at his feet but Ronaldinho has done more with it, and has been easily the most rounded player over his career, as well as consistently the stand out leader on the pitch in every game …

After your (much appreciated) thoughts, friends, it boils down to this:

              A. Barnes, Ings  -> Torres/Trincão/Gray, Antonio/Jimi
              B. Barnes, Bruno, Ings -> Torres, Jota, CR7 (- 4)
              C. Barnes, Bruno, Ings -> Greenwood, Jota, Lukaku (- 4)

              c) aggressive option: Bruno and Toney to Traore and Lukaku (-4)

              Should I WC from this:

              Sanchez
              TAA - Shaw - Amartey*
              Salah - Bruno - Raphinha - Benrahma
              DCL - Ings - Antonio

              (Steele - Tsimikas* - Brownhil - Omobamidele*) - 1.4 ITB - 1 FT

              to this:

              Sanchez
              TAA - Reguilón - Livramento
              Salah - Raphinha - Benrahma - Gray
              Ronaldo - Lukaku - Antonio

              (Steele - Duffy - Brownhil - Amartey)

              Yay or nay?

I'm in a similar position. The fact you can do:

                Bruno and Ings
                to
                Gray and Ronny -4

                I would say no personally.

That's true. I'm waiting to get Luk in for free in a few GWs.

It's each to their own but l would rather take a -8 and then keep DCL until you can in Luk for free and save the WC. Different if you have the exact cash though.

Ive changed philosophy this year. Im WC now, -8 when I need it later. Same difference, but hoping for a few more points and first year in ages, so many options are opening up at premium level in addition to all the mid price ones we had already. No real template as of today.

It's easier to downgrade Lukaku or Ronaldo to cheaper forward in form (Bamford or DCL), and get some mid-price asset than to get Lukaku or Ronaldo in two moves imo.
                      Good luck!

Barnes to Sarr before another price drop or wait closer to deadline?

Keep Barnes closer to the deadline despite of him falling in price tonight?

Sarr or Torres short term for me, next 3. Undecided
Maybe both if Benrahma is sharing time

I need to get rid of him but I only have 1FT so it's either get Ronaldo in for -4 or transfer out Barnes and hope that DCL and Bruno is enough to cover Ronaldo for 1 week.

Barnes, Toney and Fernandes our for Torres, Ronaldo and Gray.
                  -4pts.

                  Good move?

Should I wait? Only 0.1 spare.

                      Best captain choice here?:

                      Sanchez
                      TAA, Shaw, Coufal
                      Salah, Torres, Gray, Greenwood
                      Ings, Ronaldo, Antonio.

Well the 0.1 is one day of changes so not much margin for error
Imagine the scenes when Ronaldo gets introduced to Old Trafford in the 70th min for Bruno!

Anyone thinking of getting Lukaku just for GW4 then swap straight to Ronaldo for GW5

Prefer Lukaku playing on the Sunday instead of Sat as a captain choice.

Is Ronaldo worth a -8? I think I'd only want him for 3 GW's so I could bring Lukaku in for GW 7

Any early thoughts here with 2FT's?

                  Sanchez
                  TAA Shaw Veltman
                  Salah Bruno Greenwood Benrahma
                  Toney Antonio Ings

                  4m - Livramento Brownhill Tsimi

                  1.5m ITB

I can get this team for -4. Ings and Bruno to Ronaldo and Torres. Is Torres best option? ( triple Liverpool blocking me from Jota without further-4). 7.9 m available for Bruno replacement - Mount other thought with Villa game in mind

                  Sanchez
                  TAA Shaw Coufal
                  Salah Greenwood Torres Raphinha Benrahma
                  Ronaldo Antonio

Calvert lewin only thing he was missing last year was penalties, now he is their main man, every f player in everton has one thing to do "cross towards lewin"... Watch leeds or southampton highlights.

Bamford is good option too but i prefer DCL, go for both if you need bambam that badly.

I would wait and see how Leeds set up before deciding. Cannot see him starting ahead of Harrison but Raphinha may move more central. We just don’t know and Bielsa normally gives players time to settle into style of play before starting
