We’ve been spoiled so far this summer. After 12 consecutive days of football which have harvested 24 games, Euro 2012 is taking a rare day off tomorrow before the knockout stages begin on Thursday evening at 7.45pm. As Group A winners Czech Republic ready themselves to take on Portugal in the first of the quarter finals, we’ve rolled out the Captain Poll for you to have your say:

Michal Bilek’s side arrive in strong form for Thursday’s game. Written off by many after a 4-1 opening day defeat to Russia, back-to-back wins propelled them to the top of Group A, with Vaclav Pilar and Petr Jiracek the main protagonists. Between them, the midfielders have scored all of their nation’s goals, notching a couple apiece, and look the main threat to Paulo Bento’s favourites. Michal Kadlec’s penalty duties and Milan Baros’ role as the lone forward means they cannot be overlooked, while the creativity of Tomas Rosicky (if fit) and Jaroslav Plasil is likely to provide their team mates with opportunities against a defence that conceded in all of their group games.

Cristiano Ronaldo looks almost certain to be the main man for a Portugal side that has also won the last two games. After a poor couple of performances, the Real Madrid man exploded into form against Holland, scoring twice and hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions. Nani has provided an assist in each of the last two matches and has been somewhat unlucky not to find the net thus far, Helder Postiga’s guaranteed starting role has already seen him notch once, while Pepe’s threat from the back has seen him accrue 13 points, just one less than Ronaldo in the group stages.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Nobody needs an excuse not to go anyway. I personally don't see the point in spending so much time and money going to a country where one would never go on holiday to watch football from the vantage point of a stand when I can spend less time and money watching the game from the comfort of my own home with the aid of multiple camera angles. Also, the presence of fans can be as much a hinderence as a help. Ireland is perhaps evidence of this.

Yeah but that was the excuse everyone had. Nothing beats being in the stadium.

You think Irish fans hindered the team? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Don't come back to me with uhhh Roy Keane said so, because that's not what he said, or even close to it.

I actually prefer watching on tv so it's a matter of personal preference. There advantages to being in the stadium, such as the atmosphere, but the negatives outweigh the positives for me. BTW, I'm not suggesting ghat Ireland's failures were solely down to pressure from the fans, I'm just saying it is plausible that it was a factor, just like it would be for any team.

What pressure from the fans? Booing puts pressure on, chanting for the team when you're 4-0 down and embarrassingly crashing out of Europe does the opposite, which is what people considered as the problem.

Can understand watching games on TV over going but not everyone has that and certainly judging by numbers at club matches in England, a helluva lot more than the amount that traveled prefer being at the stadium.

So you're having a go at the English because a higher proportion of them prefer watching the game on tv than the Irish? If so, then I don't care if you're having a go. Cheering the team on depicts expectation, when it is not met it may cause the players to feel more downhearted that they let the fans down. Anyway, whether fans help or hinder players should be investigated and analysed by a psychologist, not me. I'm merely speculating. My other reasons for not going were the main ones, and they still stand, as you've just admitted

Having a go at the English because they're a terrible bunch of supporters for their national team.

''a higher proportion of them prefer watching the game on tv than the Irish'' - Haven't a clue where you got that from. If you read very closely, you'll find I said pretty much the opposite.

Good to see you've given up the Irish supporters hindered their team tripe anyway.

I meant travelling as well. Club matches are irrelevant, it doesn't involve travelling to a different country and spending huge amounts of time and money, as i said before. If by terrible supporters you mean they prefer not to spend time and money etc then yes, we are but I don't have a problem with that. I didn't give up the theory fans might hinder teams, I just admitted I'm not qualified to analyse it further, neither are you so the theory remains disproven or proven therefore open to interpretation.

''Also, the presence of fans can be as much a hinderence as a help. Ireland is perhaps evidence of this.'' -Suggested fans can hinder teams. Like I said, good to see you've given it up.

Don't buy England fans don't have the money to go considering the amount they spend on club matches or don't want to spend it. It's well known English people love their football, just didn't bother supporting a team they thought would fail.

Look at Ireland, awful economy, people are selling their houses to go. More fans than any other country at the thing.

Not given up on it. BTW, notice the word perhaps. It means I don't know for sure, neither do you, therefore it is neither proven or disproven.

Nothing to do with expectations of failure, just the money is not worth the experience IMO and don't blame anyone who didn't go.

No offense, but there is a fine line between being a good fan and being just plain stupid. Any Irish fan must be disappointed at spending so much money to see their team do nothing. Especially if they sold their house, which is the stupid part, no matter which team you support.

Dedication and passion. Watching your country in a major tournament isn't stupid at all.

Selling their house was clearly hyperbolé that you failed to grasp.

A bit strange that you'd make the point ''Also, the presence of fans can be as much a hinderence as a help. Ireland is perhaps evidence of this.'' then go on about how we shouldn't be talking about it as it's not proven.

How many footballers say support hindered them, and how many say support drove them on? Figure.It.Out.

I suggested a theory. I was making the point that saying you should go to support your team is not valid because your presence may not actually help anyway, and even if it does, it is minimal, almost microscopic.

Of course footballers are going to say it helps, fans pay their wages. [facepalm]

I'm allowed to speculate obviously. This argument is irrelevant then, as you should be having it with a psychologist. In which case my previous arguments were right and still stand.

Despite that, it is pretty easily deductible that there are many other factors involving a teams performance so one factor which might or might not have a psychological effect is less than other factors which have proven physical effects such as fitness, weather, actual ability, height, strength, managers tactical capability, oxygen concentration etc etc. night, even though your argument is insignificant, I might continue this later. Till next time

I think you'll find it difficult to spare a transfer for the final. You only need one to play in the final, and your second keeper will just waste funds.

On this team now. Any advice?

    Neuer - 4m Gk
    Hummels - Alba - Lescott - Selassie - Maniatis
    Schwein - Gerrard - Pirlo - Pilar - Diarra
    Gomez - C.Ronaldo - Torres

I actually want Silva but it's hard to find 2.0m from anywhere to upgrade Torres. Is Boateng or Pepe/Pereira better value to Hummels?

You can go for Busquets for either Gerrard or Pirlo and get 2m.....Boateng and Hummels will score the same points so you can save 0.5 there

A little piece of my heart says go with the pigporker, but then another part of my brain says Ozil is due...

Alternatively, I could go for Pigporker and Busquets with Boateng replacing Lescott in defence...

    A) Pigporker, Khadira, Lescott.
    B) Ozil, Busquets, Lescott.
    C) Pigporker, Busquets, Boateng.

    You decide!

Dead zone. My favorite time of the day for quality answers. What is peoples third striker? Beside CR7 and Gomez. I was almost certain for Benzema but they are against Spain and haven't impressed lately having in mind scoring. I am open for suggestions and why if possible. I might go cheeky punt like Welbeck 😛

I am definitely going for Torres now.

I was gonna have Barzagli before today, but todays results have led me to put Alba in instead. Fair to say I have very little faith in France. They havent shown and creativity or directness that is needed to get past dull Spain.

can't see italy keep a cs, the game might go to extra time after a 1-1 in regular
and I fancy germany for a cs so i am going with 3 in the back (neuer hummels boateng)

so I think you could replace barzagli with hummels imo but in this case you should downgrade swein and keep iniesta so your call but i think that germany/ spain are the only one's that could keep a cs

Can you rely on all your first 11 doing well? Seeing as we can still use subs I think it makes more sense to have a some mid price players instead of a single big hitter. Not saying dont get some 4.0's but also dont go all out on 11.
