TEAMS TO BACK

AJAX

A total of 22 goals in their last four games highlights the sort of devastating attacking form this Ajax side are in. They face a Besiktas side riddled with injuries across the pitch which should give assets like MD1 hero Sebastian Haller (8.5m), Antony (7m) and Noussair Mazraoui (4.5m) a great opportunity to score big yet again.

RB LEIPZIG

Three goals against Manchester City was far better than anyone expected Jesse Marsch’s side to get in MD1 and they’re fresh from a 6-0 weekend win over Hertha Berlin. They’ve reverted to the 4-2-2-2 Marsch was famous for at RB Salzburg and it has paid dividends, especially for Christopher Nkunku (7.5m), Nordi Mukiele (7m) and Emil Forsberg (5m).

REAL MADRID

Top of La Liga with a goal difference of +21, Ancelotti’s Real side have quality across the pitch. They face Moldovan minnows Sheriff and are led by a resurgent Karim Benzema (10m), who has 15 goal contributions in just seven games. Although Sheriff got a MD1 win against a poor Shakhtar Donetsk side, Real should have far too much quality for them to repeat their earlier heroics.

ATALANTA

Whatever their domestic form is, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta side always seem to turn up in the UCL. They battled to a 2-2 draw with Inter Milan at the weekend and now face a Young Boys side who beat Manchester United on MD1 but aren’t even top of their domestic league. The win over United was far more due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s failings than Young Boys’ own brilliance and Atalanta should put them back in their place.

ZENIT ST PETERSBURG

Zenit impressed against Chelsea in MD1 and were inches away from securing a draw against the European champions. They face a Malmo side who were one of the poorest on MD1 and Zenit should be able to take advantage of that. Veteran striker Artem Dzyuba (8m) nearly scored on MD1, has re-secured his spot in their starting line-up, is on penalties and has three goals in his last two games.

BAYERN MUNICH

Bayern have won eight games in a row under Julian Nagelsmann and have 22 goals in their last five in all competitions. They’re a far superior side to a Dynamo Kyiv team which lost 3-0 to Shakhtar in midweek’s Ukrainian Cup final. Robert Lewandowski (11.5m), Thomas Müller (9.5m), Joshua Kimmich (6.5m) and co will likely continue their great form and run riot in Munich.

CHELSEA

Although they lost to Manchester City at the weekend, this Chelsea side is still one of the best teams in the world and far superior to the Juventus side they’re playing. This game looks great for their defence, as Juventus are missing some key attacking pieces and Thomas Tuchel’s side have kept four clean sheets in six Premier League games.

BIG TEAMS TO AVOID

BARCELONA

It’s sad to see a side like Barcelona in this state, but they’re in complete disarray. Their weekend win over 17th placed Levante was their first in three games, after draws with La Liga minnows Cadiz and a very poor Granada side. Benfica are a solid side and may well have enough to overpower Ronald Koeman’s pedestrian team.

MANCHESTER UNITED

After losing their last UCL game and a weekend defeat to Aston Villa, Ole’s United now face a Villarreal side who beat them in May’s Europa League Final. Something isn’t working for the Red Devils at the moment and they’re best avoided until they have broken through this rough patch.

JUVENTUS

The Old Lady are tenth in Serie A and likely to be missing both Paulo Dybala (9m) and Alvaro Morata (9.5m) up front. They host the European Champions in Turin and can only be expected to come out second best.

PSG & MANCHESTER CITY

These are both top sides in great form. Whilst they are likely to play out a great game on Tuesday evening, it’s incredibly hard to predict and probably best left alone in UCL Fantasy terms.

CAPTAINCY

TUESDAY 28 SEPTEMBER

Captain Sensible: Karim Benzema

Eight goals and seven assists in seven La Liga games shows what sort of form the talismanic Frenchman is in under Carlo Ancelotti. Real are flying in La Liga and should sweep aside Sheriff Tiraspol, with Benzema set to star.

Captain Differential (under 10% owned): Sebastian Haller

Haller has nine goals in five games for club and country and Ajax have 22 goals in their last four games. A player in great form playing for a club in great form with an easy fixture. Haller is a great value captaincy option.

WEDNESDAY 29 SEPTEMBER

Captain Sensible: Robert Lewandowski

Lewy got a brace in MD1 and Bayern have been quality under Nagelsmann. The visit of Dynamo Kyiv presents a great opportunity for the Polish striker to add to his MD1 brace and get back on the scoresheet after failing to score for the first time in 19 club games against Greuther Fürth on Friday.

Captain Differential (under 10% owned): Artem Dzyuba

Dzyuba has form and fixture here, with three goals in his last two games. He faces a poor Malmo side and could score big as Zenit’s attacking talisman.

SPOT THE DIFFERENTIAL

Five differential picks to give your squad an edge over your competitors.

  • Raphael Guerreiro (6m) – 3% – An attacking defender who’s been in great form recently for Marco Rose’s side, Guerreiro will be even more important to a Dortmund side likely missing both Marco Reus (8m) and Erling Haaland (11m). Sporting Lisbon were poor on MD1 and Guerreiro is well placed to take advantage of that on MD2.
  • Antony (7m) – 3% – Three assists in MD1, playing for an attacking side in great form, with a great fixture. For his price, Antony is a brilliant MD2 option.
  • Edin Dzeko (7.5m) – 1% – Dzeko has four goals in his last three league games for Inter and is outperforming the more expensive Lautaro Martinez (10.5m). A proven goalscorer in good form against poor opposition in a Shakhtar Donetsk side which were turned over by Sheriff Tiraspol on MD1.
  • Karim Adeyemi (7m) – 1% – Adeyemi won three penalties against Sevilla and has much easier MD2 opposition in a Lille side struggling for form. The German starlet has seven goals in nine Austrian Bundesliga games for Salzburg.
  • Ruslan Malinovskyi (7.5) – 0% – The Ukrainian midfielder scored against Inter Milan at the weekend and has a great fixture against Young Boys Bern. He’s on most set-pieces for Atalanta and will be involved in whatever they do against the Swiss minnows.

Really annoying to have Ayling, TAA, Shaw, Greenwood, Torres and Jota. Easily all of them could miss this GW. Torres already dropped, Shaw going to drop.

Would you activate WC or wait one more week to have 2 weeks to build a team. Problem is that players I want in have already rose (Alonso and Rudiger) and we can easily have some injuries or covid positive during IB.

I don't really see a problem with Greenwood or TAA (right now anyway). Jota has a tough fixture, so I'm not actually that mithered if Firm plays this game as long as Jota is back next week.

I'd probably WC anyway though, as all those combined could be a massive problem for you, and I can't see your WC team this week would be massively different to next week (maybe more Man City next week?)

Probably I would bring some City attacker during IB with those fixtures, but not so sure now.
Sadly players I want have already rose and Torres drop..

A lot of players will have players who have tough fixtures on paper.

I'd hold, you'll probably end up getting a 60+ points score anyway.

Own them all bar Torres, not even considering wildcard. TAA is fine, Ayling is fine sat on the bench for now. Jota and Shaw can go this week (or Shaw Next week). Greenwood can wait for two weeks.

Thanks. Have 1 FT, so probably Shaw or Torres have to go now and activate WC next week.

Would probably get rid of Torres, maybe Shaw for a hit if he's a doubt for the weekend and then re-asses next week.

G2G? Already did a -4 with Bamford, Shaw -> Jimenez, Alonso

    Sanchez
    TAA Alonso Tierney
    Salah Sarr Jota Raphinia
    Ronaldo (C) Antonio Jimenez

    Steele, Allan, Livra, Duffy

Looking at something like this? Could just do the first 2 moves for free. 2FTs, 1.4m itb.

    Ronaldo+Shaw+Ayling >> Lukaku+Alsonso+Cancelo (-4)?

    Sanchez
    TAA. Shaw. White
    Salah. Jota. Raph. Sarr
    Ronaldo. Antonio. ASM
    (Foster, Gilmour, Ayling, Livramento)

Am on a WC, and will be going with one of the everton mfs.

    Any preference?

    A)Doucoure
    B)Gray

Leaning towards Doucoure, feel like he's more locked into the team, and his potential points is higher than Gray, but could be totally wrong!

Im restricted on my price points, as I'm going Salah, Ronaldo and Lukaku (for now - may change in 4/5 weeks)

        Current mf is:
        Salah - Sarr - Doucoure - (ESR/Brownhill)

Playing 442(White starting), or 343 (ESR starting)

What would your ideal midfield be at present with only 1 premium in there (Salah)?

Salah Raph Saka Sarr Benrahma? If only playing with 4, drop Benrahma?

Any room for thinking that squad value might be a more significant factor this season than last?

Last time out there were really only 3 premiums in the game and both Kane and Bruno started out cheap really and I can't recall at any stage really being pushed to afford the team I'd want. Mo Ron and Rom are significantly more expensive this time and probs likely only going to increase in value seen long term.

Come GW24 say there could conceivably be a significant disparity between teams that have played the market and can field stacked attack and stacked defence and those that are still making choices due to budget.

High average from what I've seen.

I'm more or less the same. But the actual sale value is really low so don't regard the gains made as significant - simply protected against price drops in most cases.

There was on here that was around 103 already - didn't check transfer history mind 🙂

It is something I'm pondering regarding Ronaldo. I was planning on keeping but I'm thinking of maybe dropping him for 5-6 weeks, but I'm worried I'd be unable to get him back in without tearing my team apart. I don't see it being impossible that he could be 12.9 or so by then, and I currently have 0itb which I never like as it means I have little flexibility. But then I think of the opportunity cost of not transferring him out for a cheaper striker that I might expect will do better in those 5-6 weeks, and the same could be said for a lot of other players that people might want to move out for a few weeks but fear doing so in case they have to spend another 0.3/4 to get them back in.

Considering this exact thing, as I'm sure many are. My thought is, if United's struggles continue through their bad fixture run, and Ronaldo doesn't look sparkling, then he may not rise too much more. If the team starts to work out their attacking issues at least, then Ron becomes desirable again when their fixtures hit that really nice patch.

Pure speculation of course. This is only one path out of many, but it wouldn't surprise me. United's struggles don't appear to be just a bad game here or there, but suggest something deeper chemistry wise.

It could possibly work out that high TV enabling 3x 12.0+’s works to give an advocate

Or it could be the opposite where the FPL points scoring system catches up with Kaku & Ron & they find it hard to deliver with only 4 points per goal and no clean sheets - kind of like Kane last season getting nearly 40 returns and still just about matching a below par Salah & Bruno

      Or anywhere in between really

Magnus Carlsen always ends up with really low team value (101 to 102m) at the end of season. Look where that got him

The issue for me is that you have to make a lot of early transfers in order to chase team value and by definition that increases the likelihood you'll need to take hits in order to compensate for injuries that happened between your transfer and the deadline.

I think there's always enough cheap alternatives (for instance ESR instead of Saka, as a random example) to the players you want that you can usually get by by waiting, losing TV but having more info and a lower risk of getting screwed by late injury news.

Gallagher will get all the minutes, but ESR will be a strong player in home games. Just worried Granit's injury won't give the younger 3 ahead the freedom like it did vs Spurs.

    Sanchez 4.0
    TAA White Shaw Ayling Tsimikas
    Salah Benrahma Greenwood Sarr 4.5
    Ronaldo Antonio Jimenez

There are so many good defensive options just now.

I wonder how playing 4 or even 5 every week would work out.

Say with Salah plus lukaku or Ronnie and a lighter mid / forward line up.

Eg TAA plus one or two from city and the same from Chelsea

I stumbled on this conclusion yesterday. Heres my WC team:

      Ramsdale / 4.0
      Alonso / Rudiger / TAA / Cancelo / Dias
      Raph / Salah / Saka / Sarr / ESR
      Antonio / Lukaku / 4.5
      0.3 ITB

Longer term plan will involve downgrading one of the 6mill mids or defenders to upgrade elsewhere in due course if needed

So you're going to bench 2 of those mids every week?

        No thanks

I know, seems crazy right? But the question is - right now where would you reallocate the funds? I don't think there are better options.

Hi all - any comments on this team once DCL fit? really wanted Auba but just cant seem to get him in

    RAMSDALE (SANCHEZ)
    TAA, MARCAL, ALONSO (LIVRAMENTO, WHITE)
    SALAH, RAPHINHA, SAKA, GREALISH (GILMOUR)
    INGS, DCL, LUKAKU

I'd invest more in defence. So many defenders going to get 160+ pts/season.. DCL and Ings same but 2M more.. I'm thinking of Auba too 🙂

I like DCL but prefer Antonio over Ings, at least short term. From GW11 Ings could be good.

Would you recommend using FT this week to replace James for another chelsea defender or use bench (Gilmour Livra Armstrong) to cover this week?
Ideally I’d prefer to have 2FT post IB. Semedo to City defender earmarked as gw8 move.
    Cheers

I'd make the move personally but I'm not committed to James as an FPL asset - those cameos ruin it for me and would prefer a blanker. But if you rate James - and that's logical enough after all - then the hold could work out. Good time to have 2FTS for sure.

I picked James on gw5 wc
        Definitely not committed to him.
Was more a question of how urgent would it be to own a chelsea defender as I’d like to delay the decision by a week.
Gut feeling is Azpi who’s probably in line for most mins as he can easily play both systems whether it’s wing back or Centre back.
Then again Alonso could get 15 points in any given game

I wouldn’t make the move. Just play Armstrong.

    Guaita
    TAA-Semedo-Rudiger (White-Livramento)
    Salah-Jota-Raphinha-Sarr (Allan)
    Antonio-Ronaldo-Jimenez

    0.7 itb and 1FT

    Plan:
    Jota >> Saka
    Semedo >> Cancelo

    Any thoughts appreciated...

Just Jota to Saka this week. Next week Cancelo is good.

So done Shaw to Rudiger, now see United keeping a clean sheet next GW...

I've done the same. And it wasn't based on whether or not Shaw might play. He was gone soon anyway and need a Chelsea defender.

Worth -4 to bring in a Chelsea defender this week? 2.9m ITB, think I like Rudiger the best but will wait for Friday to make any move:

    Sa
    TAA, Semedo, Tierney
    Salah, Jota, Raphinha, Traore
    Antonio, Lukaku (C), ASM

    4.0; Livra, Williams, Allan

Could be tempted to lose either of Semedo or Williams. Also have my eye on Cancelo for a transfer in next GW.

      Not for me

Don't rate Wolves defence really but Newcastle are poor enough too and Tierney could well be a solid 6 pointer against blunt Brighton.

I'd fix Traore. Don;t see Rudiger as a priority move.

defender transfers are always difficult, with a -4 as well its v. hard to justify - especially when wolves have a great fixture too.

I would make the xfer next week, then cancelo week after that

Expected stats, how is Aubameyang looking?

      As expected, not so good.

On serious note, he has 1.28 xG for 2 goals, 0.42 xA for 0 Assist. 3.26 Sp90 and 1.25 Kp90.

So after most people thought CR7 would be on penalties and were wrong, how confident are we that Lukaku is on pens, and why?

    1. Holmes

Apparently he was never going to be on penalties with Jorginho around

Not to dispute this, but do you have any links to good sources that confirm it? It seems like a lot of people still believe the opposite.

The evidence points to Bruno on pens.

Does the hoo ha make it less likely to swith it around in fact?

I thought the opposite - Jorginho is Chelsea’s penalty taker, and possession is 9/10’s of the law

You were right on Bruno being the taker over CR7, I remember that. Well done!
