Gameweek 19 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is almost upon us, which gives us an opportunity to have a look at some more differential options – and hopefully, these players we’ve selected will all have fixtures on Boxing Day amid the postponements elsewhere.

This time, we’ve selected low-owned picks at Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Southampton, who we think have the potential to make an impact.

As always, to qualify, the player must have an ownership of 5% or less at the time of writing.

LUCAS MOURA

  • FPL ownership: 1.3%
  • Price: £6.4m
  • GW19-23 fixtures: CRY | sou | wat | ARS | che

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the EFL Cup semi-finals after a 2-1 win over West Ham United on Wednesday night, with Lucas Moura (£6.4m) on the scoresheet.

The Brazilian’s winner – his fifth attacking return in eight appearances under Antonio Conte in all competitions – capped off a wonderful display, with his manager hailing him as one of Spurs’ best players after the match:

“Lucas Moura is one of the best players in our squad. He links quality with quantity and he’s also a wonderful person. You always find on him a smile and I love to work with these types of players.” – Antonio Conte

It could have been more, too, when his smart through ball picked out Harry Kane (£12.1m) in the first-half, only for Alphonse Areola (£4.7m) to produce a solid save.

Despite his omission from the starting XI in Gameweek 18, as Tottenham held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw, the expectation – certainly amongst supporters – is that Spurs will revert to a 3-4-3 formation against Crystal Palace. That in turn creates an additional attacking spot behind Kane for Moura to be deployed, having seen Dele Alli (£6.2m) and Tanguy Ndombele (£5.7m) preferred in Conte’s 3-5-2.

With three fixtures still to be rescheduled (bur/bha/lei) following their Covid and weather-influenced cancellations, investing in Spurs assets feels like a no-brainer right now, especially given their immediate schedule, which sees them take on Crystal Palace (h), Southampton (a) and Watford (a) in the next three.

Son Heung-min (£10.3m) remains the stand-out pick in Spurs’ midfield, but if funds are needed in other areas, Moura’s price of just £6.4m offers real value.

MICHAEL KEANE

  • FPL ownership: 2.2%
  • Price: £4.9m
  • GW19-23 fixtures: bur | NEW | BHA | nor | AVL

Investing in Everton assets admittedly won’t be for everyone right now, but the Toffees’ forthcoming schedule certainly suggests we could see an upturn in form in the coming weeks.

From Gameweeks 19 to 26, Rafa Benitez’s side sit top of our Season Ticker for ease of fixture, with matches against Burnley (a), Newcastle United (home and away), Brighton and Hove Albion (h), Norwich City (a), Aston Villa (h), Leeds United (h) and Southampton (a) on the menu. There is also the prospect of a Double Gameweek, with their tie against Leicester City (h) still to be rearranged.

Defensively, Everton have conceded 29 goals across their 17 games so far, which is very un-Benitez like, though 12 of those did arrive against Liverpool, Manchester City and Watford. However, with fixtures easing, you’d expect them to improve, with their next five opponents ranked 19th, 18th, 15th, 20th and 17th respectively for non-penalty expected goals (non-pen xG).

That leads us to Michael Keane (£4.9m), who has been an ever present this season with the 28-year-old playing every minute of every Premier League game. He also leads his defensive colleagues for baseline bonus points (BBPS), while his 11 shots in the box – which includes two big chances – is a top 10 total amongst all defenders in the game.

Keane is an intriguing defensive option ahead of Everton’s fixture swing, and with an ownership of just 2.2%, could be an effective differential.

ARMANDO BROJA

  • FPL ownership: 3.9%
  • Price: £5.1m
  • GW19-23 fixtures: whu | TOT | NEW | wol | MCI

After his 12-point haul at Crystal Palace in Gameweek 18, budget forward Armando Broja (£5.1m) has now produced four goals and one assist across his 13 Premier League appearances this season.

Notably, that has included just five starts, with all of his goals arriving in those matches. That suggests that if he’s in the starting XI, he can make a notable impact, ahead of this weekend’s clash at West Ham United. However, the real appeal lies in Gameweek 21, when Southampton take on the division’s worst defence, Newcastle United, with their postponed match against Brentford (h) also to be rearranged, possibly around that time.

Broja’s loan spell at St Mary’s Stadium has had its up and downs, as he was at first criticised by boss Ralph Hasenhuttl for what he described as a ‘slow start’. Things have got better since, though, with the 20-year-old’s confidence on the up and his decision-making in the final-third improving.

“After his slow start, he has been definitely showing up. You can see that his qualities are absolutely there and he is putting it out there on the pitch now, this is what we need.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

With expensive assets like Son Heung-min and Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) back on the radar, raising funds via Broja could be a shrewd move, knowing that he is capable of stepping in and producing when the fixtures fall kindly. And while Tino Livramento (£4.4m) has stolen the show in FPL this season, Broja’s recent performances suggests that he can now become Southampton’s main man, and in turn, become a nice under-the-radar option for our squads.

So as Salah has Leicester as a plus but Chelsea as a tough one and a blank taboot, I think I’ll sell. Go for Son?

More or less the exact same team as me…

I 100% won’t be FHing unless a few more games are called off.

Switch Salah for Son… that gives you 11 starters.. and if you want a bit of extra protection for if ESR/Foden/Antonio don’t play, switch King to Broja.

I’ve got 3 pool + Dennis + ESR/Foden. I figure that Jota/salah/TAA should all play the following week and if foden/ESR miss out this week they play the next.

If there are no more cancellations I go salah/Dennis to Ronaldo/Bowen.

If Chelsea/Villa is off too then it’s FH time.

I really would not worry too much about ESR/Foden. But being 4 down is transfer time. Much more becomes FH time IMO

Is anyone going to take a step back and look at the big picture for a second? There have have been a lot of people shouting into the void on here today and very little thought.

Gw 19, 20, 21, 22 are not going to be the only opportunities for chip use. Ben Crellins spreadsheet can be read at a shallow level for the immediate information or deeper with consideration of the potential future changes later in the season.

In previous seasons when faced with blanks many have chosen to field less than 11 players as the future opportunities for transfers/chip ise is greater. This kind of logic is not being applied as its come as a surprise and managers are kneejerking. Step back, have a cup of tea and look at the whole season and not just boxing day.

When elevating free hit teams its not a comparison with the number of hit points saved in transfers that matters (largely irrelevant). Its about what the short term and long term benefits are. Free hitting to get fringe cheapies just to have 11 players is not much value.

    Think!

I find this curious. Its clearly believed by many but somewhat questionable.

I said to sell Antonio whilst in Europa, he stopped scoring.
I said to buy Wilson, he scored, I carried on suggesting him and he carried on scoring. Everyone then bought him as I sold and he stopped scoring.
I was a week ahead of the Laca wagon.
I said to sell Salah last week and look at it now.

I dont suggest many players so its amusing to see it believed that I am always wrong. 😉

The TAA thing is majorly misunderstood and still proving true. My rep largely came from pushing back against Max Baps ludicrous preason claims on which he was wrong on all counts. Its largely everyone elses loss so no harm to me. Just highlights the fallacy of groupthink on here further.

I know you are one of the more open minded on here

Your rep comes from refusing to acknowledge TAA is actually incredibly good value.

I've brought it up multiple times & given you the metrics to prove it, and all conveniently never reply past the point I do that 😉

Not being unreasonable. Rest of what you say may be fine, but for some reason you won't admit you were wrong and still aren't here.

My comment is, 'TAA is not good value unless you are willing to captain him'.

If you are willing to captain, as I have been, then he will be scoring high enough to justify his pricetag, which he has been.

If you are not willing to captain, because he is not scoring well enough to be captain, then he would not be good value.

Arguing that he has scored well does not diminish my argument. He is currently captain material and good value and you should be captaining him. There was a run near the start when the midfielders were missing where he was not a captain option and was not good value.

                    My argument has not changed.

Go to the transfers page on FPL and go to sorted by "Value (season)". Trent is 4th and that's with a price of 8.3m when many got him at 7.5m

You say that like it counters my point. Trent has been captain material for weeks, which in my argument is prerequisite for him being good value. Hence, I am in fact correct

For Trent to be good value he must score 250pts. If Trent is scoring 250pts you should be captaining him or you are losing points.

The argument you are making is not mutually exclusive. And that is what is misunderstood. Keep coming with these gotchas which just arent valid

                        Ginkapo you are actually deluded.

Trent offers superb value whether you captain him or not. Captaincy is entirely irrelevant when value is the topic at hand because the whole point of a captain is to captain whoever you think is going to score the most points in the Gameweek.

You can't captain more than one player every week.

You saying Trent is not a value pick just because you're captaining Salah for example is an absolute joke.

Because he cost 8.0M. So he has to be better value than much cheaper players hence scoring double the cheapies. Its a big ask but he is one of the players who can actually do it. He is on track for 266pts.

If he regresses to 180pts then he will have a patch of awful scoring and shouldnt be in our teams let alone captaincy thoughts. No middle ground with him.

Free Hitting to get fringe cheapies? Those planning to play the chip are doing so to get the likes of Ronaldo, Kane, De Bruyne, Sterling and Son without having to sell Salah who is the best captain in GW20.

I guarantee you haven't seen a FH draft that doesn't have 3 or 4 of those big hitters in it. Many currently own none of them.

Mostly posts on here are ramblings of nonsense followed by some variant of, 'what do you think?'. Seems rude to answer honestly with, 'I think you are hopelessly confused, beyond hope and wasting everyones time', but those are generally my thoughts.

Usually in blank gameweeks there are not many good options to pick from so people don't mind missing a few players. This GW there are plum fixtures for Arsenal, Man U, Man City and to a lesser extent Spurs and West Ham. There are plenty of good options from these teams.

True but got to consider roatation. Can play FH and some players dont start. Would rather that the situation without any chip usage but each to their own. I tend to slightly agree with the OPs comments about saving the FH later on.

Fair enough, with a FH you can have a strong bench if you want, if you are not FHing and you only have 11 playing players you have no cover

    Up to 8 available:

    Ramsdale (Steele)
    James Rüdiger Cancelo
    Gallagher Bernardo
    Watkins Antonio*

    Postponed:
    TAA† Coady†
    Salah† Jota† Raphinha†
    Dennis†

Rumours Villa might have trouble fielding a team so that would leave 4 or 5 players available depending on Antonio fitness.

The ironic thing is I brought in Raphinha, Coady and Watkins last week instead of further Arsenal players because I thought having too many double and triple ups would leave the team exposed to postponement catastrophes.

Deadline is 2:30am Monday local time - I'll probably transfer out Raphinha for Arsenal mid, and play FH really late (literally) depending on futher postponements.
