We’ve got the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team news information in our first press conference summary ahead of Gameweek 21.

Thursday’s pressers feature words from Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

For much more detailed information, check out our Predicted Line-ups page (which is being refreshed on Friday evening) and Injuries and Bans feed.

And for other help and advice, from our weekly Scout Picks to team reveals, there will soon be a complete Gameweek 21 guide.

LEICESTER CITY

 1

James Maddison and Jamie Vardy were both seen struggling in the second half of Leicester’s win over Liverpool and the update brings mixed news. Whilst in-form Maddison was expected to be fine to face former club Norwich (a game that was subsequently postponed), manager Brendan Rodgers believes Vardy will be out for at least a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

“It depends, it could be the next three to four weeks (for Vardy). He wasn’t sure whether it was that (in a challenge with Joël Matip) or he felt the pain then. He ran on and soldiered on which he wanted to do, but the scan has shown up as that (a hamstring injury) so it could be three to four weeks.” – Brendan Rodgers

The injuries have really piled up for the Foxes and the situation is about to be made worse now that Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Daniel Amartey are set to depart for African Cup of Nations duty and miss Gameweek 21.

Although Harvey Barnes (knock) is back training with the squad and Ryan Bertrand (knee) isn’t far behind, Rodgers added that the others “are still at least three weeks away” from returning – referring to the likes of Ricardo Pereira (leg), Caglar Soyuncu (hamstring), Jonny Evans (hamstring), Patson Daka (hamstring), James Justin (match fitness) and Wesley Fofana (leg).

“JJ (James Justin), we just need to get some games into him, he was due to play a game and he was off for 10 days or so, so he’s going to be a few weeks away. He’s back training, which is great news for us. Wesley Fofana, we’re looking into February for him.” – Brendan Rodgers

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Steven Bergwijn (calf) got hurt during Gameweek 19’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, which Antonio Conte says will keep him out of the trip to Watford.

Cristian Romero remains absent with a hamstring injury, while Ryan Sessegnon is targeting next weekend’s FA Cup game to return from his.

Giovani Lo Celso (calf) is back available, however.

“Giovani Lo Celso has recovered from his injury, and he’s available for the game against Watford. Romero, Bergwijn and Sessegnon are still out, but the good news for us is Giovani has recovered.” – Antonio Conte

WEST HAM UNITED

On top of the known injuries to Angelo Ogbonna (knee) and Kurt Zouma (hamstring), another absentee has been named as Pablo Fornals (Covid).

“We don’t have any more numbers because it’s something you can’t really say much about. It changes daily. We’re completely unsure what’s going to happen, but today’s update would be we’re pretty clear.” – David Moyes’ Covid update

It is still unknown as to when Aaron Cresswell will return from the back injury that has kept him out of action since Gameweek 14.

FPL Marc Broadcaster, writer and overthinker. Hoping that ‘differential potential’ will catch on.

come up with another way after the price rise

no point in making transfers without more press conferences and fixture news

Too much uncertainty these days so I would ignore price changes and gain as much info as you can before the deadline

I did get him in yesterday. I will want him long term anyway and I strongly doubt him to get injured or ill before deadline. If I have to take one hit one week earlier because of that transfer, so be it.

    Thoughts on this WC?

Going to consider DDG -> Sanchez if united continue to look really weak in defence tonight

    Squad:
    DDG
    TAA - Cancelo - Thomas - Targett
    Foden - Maddison - Son - Bowen
    Watkins - Kane

Bench: Sá - Raph - Lamptey - King

      A solid 8/10

DF could be tweaked a bit I think and I’m not sure I’d go Raph or Watkins on WC (not that they’re bad, just not optimal choices).

    (WC)

    DDG
    TAA - Cancelo - Reguilón
    Tielemans - Son - Bowen - Foden - Ødegaard
    Kane - Broja

Bench: Ramsdale - Laporte - Coady - King

    Cheers 😀

I’ve just Wildcarded and got Maddison and Tielemans in. Not sure you want Arsenal players with their fixtures and blank but rest looks great.

might risk it and go Tielemans. Madders is fit and could explode but with only 3 day rest he could be brought off early. Tielemans had his rest and is on pens. Also like Lookman as well

Kekechi likely to start so tiele is not on pens while he is on. But i might just go for Jim anyway, Norwich is the game i want Leicester and tiele should be safe for 90 min.

That he’s a very good option basically.

I was one of those burned by Watkins for a hit. But the comedy thing was, I waited until about 45mins before deadline before I made the move but then I had to go out.
Made the move and then just after that the Villa game was pulled

Fortunately, I've got 4mil in the bank, unfortunately I'm a way behind the leader in our mini league. Where would you look to upgrade in the coming weeks? Doesn't necessarily need to be for now. This is my team:

    Ederson - Foster
    TAA - Cancelo - Dalot - Cash - Tierney
    Son - Maddison - Bowen - Martinelli - Jota
    Kane - Antonio - Broja

The obvious is Salah, Saka, Regulion. Anyone else worth watching over the next few weeks for an eye test?

Feel like there are a lot of potential options here and not sure how to plan what to do with this team. Would appreciate any thoughts on the below:

Who to get rid of first
    A: James
    B: Hwang
    C: Mbuemo

    Who to bring in
    A: Reguilon/Bavies/Dier/Leicester defence/Villa defence?
    B: Watkins/King/Broja/Edouard
    C: Maddison/Leicester?/Gray/Raphinha/Bowen/Moura

    DDG Bachmann
    TAA Cancelo James White Liv
    Son Jota Bilva Mbuemo McArthur
    Ron Antonio Hwang

Other option could be to wildcard or free hit?

Yep, kept having other problems. I have exact cash for James Hwang > Reg Watkins (-4) if none of them change in price before deadline - if they do could downgrade Reg to Bavies/Dier and/or Watkins to King/Broja. Worth the hit?

Yeah so thinking maybe James/Hwang are the priority - both out for a -4 maybe or just one to avoid the hit? Have exact funds for Reg/Watkins as replacements at the mo and can wait till next week for Mbuemo > Whoever and bench for 21 or chuck it in as part of a -8 if needs be.

Not in WC territory in your opinion then?

    Lloris
    Dalot, Cancelo, TAA
    Jota, Bernardo, Gallagher, Bowen, Son(C)
    Watkins, Dennis
    (Ramsdale, Lacazette, Lamptey, Rudiger)

Note: I don't want to sell Dennis even during AFCON, hence GW21 might be the best time to play bench boost (BB).

    A. Save FT
    B. Lacazette + Rudiger -> Ronaldo + Ait Nouri (-4) || BB
    C. Bernardo + Lacazette -> Maddison + Calvert-Lewin (-4) || BB

Saving FT would mean I would be scared to use the BB this week. Do you think there will be better options for bench boosting going forward? At some point, I have to drop one of those expensive goalkeepers.

        1. Stamford B
          • 4 Years
          4 years, 1 month ago

The problem with BB is you can get hung up on when to use it and it can interfere with what should be the right course of action when in reality it’s not a great chip and probably won’t get you many points. If you’re saving your wc you could use them together for the doubles later in the season. Wc the week before then bb in the dgw

          1. banskt
            • 12 Years
            4 years, 1 month ago

Agreed completely, difficult to plan the BB, especially with the raging pandemic and games being postponed. I think it is possible to get 13-16 extra points with the BB.

I also think there wouldn't be a double as big as GW22 going forward this season. Hence, there wouldn't be a better time to play the BB. But, I will still have Dennis come GW22. As I said, I bought him at 5.0m and can't afford to buy him back, if sold.

I have a lot if issues now: James, Alonso, Saka, Salah, (Foden), Lacazette and Dennis. Add to that 0 ft since I sold Bernardo for Son this week because of forgetting last deadline. If dgw:s are published, I may use it immediately after that. Don't like it, but 6-7 very good reasons is enough I think.

Salah to Kdb (/Sterling) and saving the money or downgrading someone who is injured/needs to go and getting Salah back for -4 isn't too difficult.

Depends on other players. I would not get two defenders / GK from the same team. If I don't have anyone from Spurs, I would get Lloris. ManCity -> Cancelo, Liverpool -> TAA, ManUnited -> Dalot / Maguire, Wolves -> Ait Nouri, Burnley -> Lowton, Brighton -> Duffy / Lamptey, Villa -> Cash, Everton -> Pickford, and so on...

If I don't have rotating gk:s, having them from same team isn't an issue. Exception is if it blocks having two attacking players, therefore I don't want Lloris for example.
