Man Utd v Wolves team news: Jones starts, Fernandes and Dalot subs

Double Gameweek 21 takes a bit of a breather after tonight’s match between Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, which kicks off at 17:30 GMT.

This is the 25th Premier League game in the space of eight days but we’ll have none in the next week as the domestic cups take centre stage.

This is plenty of Fantasy interest in this seventh fixture of Gameweek 21, particularly when it comes to the hosts.

David de Gea is the most-owned goalkeeper among the top 10,000 FPL managers, with Cristiano Ronaldo sitting in just under a third of these leading bosses and indeed in FPL teams overall.

The veteran Portuguese is the second most-captained player of Gameweek 21 (999,060 managers have handed him the armband), although that accolade has to be taken with a pinch of salt given the number of drifting Fantasy ghost ships now littering the overall ranks.

Both players start this evening in a Manchester United side showing two changes from the team that beat Burnley.

The alterations come at centre-half, with the injured Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire replaced by Raphael Varane and Phil Jones; the latter is starting his first United game in almost two years.

Victor Lindelof misses out once again because of coronavirus.

“Victor was still positive. Harry received a knock on his chest or whatever in the game against Burnley so we thought he would be good again for tonight but yesterday he was just trying, it was impossible, he even had too much pain when he was just standing or sitting.” – Ralf Rangnick

Bruno Fernandes is back from suspension but only among the substitutes, while Diogo Dalot and Marcus Rashford are benched for the second successive Gameweek.

Wolves haven’t been in action for over two weeks and there are two changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Chelsea, with Francisco Trincao and Nelson Semedo coming in for Leander Dendoncker and Ki-Jana Hoever.

Adama Traore is, once again, on the bench for the visitors, as is the fit-again Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Romain Saiss will depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after tonight’s game.

GAMEWEEK 21 LINE-UPS

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Jones, Shaw, McTominay, Matic, Greenwood, Sancho, Cavani, Ronaldo.

Subs: Rashford, Lingard, Fred, Bruno Fernandes, Dalot, Henderson, Alex Telles, van de Beek, Elanga.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI: Sa, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Semedo, Neves, Moutinho, Marcal, Trincao, Jimenez, Podence.

Subs: Hoever, Ait Nouri, Bruno Jordao, Silva, Ruddy, Dendoncker, Traore, Cundle, Bueno.

United's transfer failings in recent years are well documented but one position which probably doesn't get talked about enough is fullback.

Liverpool have Trent and Robertson, City have Cancelo, and Chelsea have James and Chilwell. Wan-Bissaka and Shaw are lightyears behind in terms of what they offer going forward.

Shaw is a good player, he’s not a mile behind robbo when at his best, the other side I agree

He had a good 12 or 18 months but it's not enough at this level. The Liverpool fullbacks do it week in, week out.

Not when he's on form. How would he do in Liverpool team and vice versa? United's defence and midfield is a §hitshow this season, Dé Gea or nothing.

Especially in this team, with the way the manager wants to play. Their crossing is terrible too.

Nail on the head. Full backs are way too important these days to have average players on the ball there.

Yep. They get arguably more time and space on the ball than any other outfield player in most games so if they have quality they can really hurt the opposition. We see it every week but the club don't seem to have realised we need better fullbacks.

Both in terrible form. What team has better established attacking fullbacks than Liverpool. Shaw is quality when on form. Hard to be decent too when CBs and midfield don't allow you get forward as much. Bissaka confidence is low. Not the greatest attacking fullback when on form but far from the worst.

Liverpool bought Robertson for £8m, Chelsea bought Chilwell for £50m, and City bough Cancelo for about £50-60m.

We spent £50m on a right back who can't cross, shoot, pass or dribble.

He was decent when United bought him. Klopp coached Robertson to his level. That's hopefully why United have Rangnick, to improve players, no lazily waste cash on the next so-called better alternative. Mourinho had Shaw as good as sold before Solksjaer came in and Shaw worked harder and improved. You can't compare United's defensive performances to that of CL and PL champions with one of the worlds best CBs controlling the back 4. De Gea is making a poor defence look capable. But sure Declan Rice will save the day for United. Never mind coaching and improving what's there.

They're not as established fullbacks for Chelsea as Trent or Robertson are for Liverpool. Trent the best attacking fullback but his defence the weakest of the four but Klopp makes allowances.

Masuaku was last-minute "must bring in a dgw player" and could afford up to 4.4. Stupid, rash decision in a season in which I have been very calm with transfers. Il
