Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes

In the opening match of Double Gameweek 22, Brighton and Hove Albion grabbed a late equaliser to earn a draw against Crystal Palace in a lively M23 derby.

Our Scout Notes article reflects on the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from the fixture.

GALLAGHER HITS 100 POINTS

Conor Gallagher’s (£6.1m) opener at the Amex on Friday means that he is the eighth FPL player to hit 100 points this season, following Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m), Joao Cancelo (£7.0m), Jarrod Bowen (£6.7m), Son Heung-min (£10.7m), Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£8.3m).

The Chelsea loanee has seen his ownership drop to 17.4% after missing successive matches against Norwich City and West Ham United, but now back in the starting XI, netted his seventh Premier League goal of the season against Brighton, with an instinctive strike against the run of play in the second-half.

“Conor Gallagher has got that energy and understands when to get in the box with that timing and he will continue to keep scoring goals for us.” – Patrick Vieira

However, Gallagher’s goal was Palace’s only shot in the box all night, as they once again failed to offer much threat in the final-third.

Despite that, tonight’s 1-1 draw does at least end a run of three away matches without scoring, after failing to find the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leeds United.

Patrick Vieira, meanwhile, named six players aged 23 or younger in his starting XI, including Eberechi Eze (£5.9m) – making his first Premier League start of 2021/22 – and the talented Michael Olise (£5.4m), who has been directly involved in five goals as a substitute this season.

In truth, both players failed to make much of an impact, but will surely be handed further opportunities to impress in the coming weeks, with wingers Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m) and Jordan Ayew (£5.8m) both currently representing their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

BUTLAND IMPRESSES

Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 1

In his pre-match press conference, Patrick Vieira had said that Vicente Guaita (£4.6m) “wasn’t fit enough” to feature against Millwall in the FA Cup last week and would “hopefully” be back against Brighton.

However, the Spaniard only made the bench, with reserve keeper Jack Butland (£4.4m) impressing in his absence and saving a penalty, whilst also drawing plenty of praise from his manager after the full-time whistle.

“Jack Butland was the man of the match. I am delighted for him. He is working hard every single day. He needed a chance and he was at his best today and that allowed us to go home with the point.

He had been training all week. It was a good save in the first half, he came for crosses, he saved the penalty. He showed all his potential. He deserved it for the way he has been working and waiting. I am glad for him.” – Patrick Vieira

HARD TO BEAT BRIGHTON

Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 5

The Seagulls have lost just four games all season – only the top three have lost fewer – and were much the better side against Palace, but failed to keep a clean sheet despite limiting their opponents to just one shot in the box and 0.47 expected goals (xG).

With Chelsea up next, followed by an away trip to Leicester City and a blank, owners may be looking to move on their assets, though it is worth noting that from Gameweek 25 onwards, they embark on a kind run which includes back-to-back matches against Watford (a), Burnley (h), Aston Villa (h) and Newcastle United (a).

Surprisingly, despite two successive rests, Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) started on the bench against Palace, with Joel Veltman (£4.2m) preferred at right-back. However, the youngster was heavily involved upon his introduction on 56 minutes, receiving 18 passes in the final third – only Jakub Moder (£4.5m) had more.

After tonight’s draw, Brighton are unbeaten in their last four matches, taking eight points in that time, as many as they managed in their previous 11 top-flight fixtures.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Sanchez, Veltman (Welbeck 73), Webster, Burn, Cucurella, Moder, Gross (March 73), Lallana (Lamptey 56), Mac Allister, Trossard, Maupay

Crystal Palace XI: Butland, Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Hughes, Schlupp, Gallagher, Olise (Benteke 81), Eze (Milivojevic 66), Edouard (Mateta 66)

I use it for MD6 in UCL for the FHness, not the budget. A lot of unpredictable lineups with teams already topping their group or our or wanting into or avoiding EL. Can find some great cheapos with something to play for.

      (1) Transfer Undo within the game week

Even if you lose the money, you can transfer back the previous player. But only before the game week.

Would have protected me from snowstorms, toothaches, and COVID cancellations this year.

      (2) no more wildcards, just 6 free wildcard transfers per 18 game cycles. You can use them all at once or one per week or keep rolling them. Until they lapse on GW18 or GW36.

      (3) postponed games count to original owners of the players in the past game week. So I get the Son vs Burnley loot, even if the game is played in may and I don't have son anymore. Maybe computationally impossible

I don’t see the sense in the max 2FT saving limit.
A mini WC (4FTs or so) would also be interesting.
And also I would welcome if you could still save your FT by using WC or FH.
A captain option, which takes in to account the highest scoring per GW of the both, your C and VC.

There should be something to prevent everyone captaining Salah every week, maybe include some sort of rule to restrict captain choices in some way.

I’m not sure how they could do it, but in effect you could stop players from being able to captain the same player 3 weeks in a row and set it to a maximum of 2 weeks or something. It would increase the variation in scores each week and reward people who plan ahead around fixtures, rather than setting a perma-captain.

The way the game is played now it just seems like everyone captains Salah when he is fit and not at away at AFCON and we may as well all be playing with just 10 players.

This idea might seem greast, but it isn't. What happens if your captain has exceeded the limit and you can't change them for any given reason. You just miss the deadline , forget to change captain and so on.

Not to mention it wouldn't be fair anymore, if you are restricted in choosing a player who you think is good enough to be captain in your team.

I get where your coming from , but this idea is too out there, and wouldn't make FPL more intresting.Feels more like a restriction/punishment then good rule.

Wrote a long answer but decided to go with short one. 😛

If you make it too hard or requiring extreme activity then it's not fun to play either.

Yeah, but what's hard to whom? If we're talking knuckleheads forgetting the deadline or not deciding on a captain in time then they deserve everything they get. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to juggle captaincies based around, say, the ten times in a season you're allowed to use a single player.

If you forget to change your captain in the third week the system could just revert to the persons vice captain, and then change back to their captain choice the following week.

Just trying to think of ideas to stop all players captaining the same player every week as it gets boring and means everyone is essentially playing with 10 players and the captain function may as well not be there as the points gained are negligible each week

          1. Hiiler
            • 2 Years
            2 years, 3 months ago

Well now that's more fair idea then the other one. I mean the one with no captain at all is fair idea.

But with the GW limits for Captain ,I get what you meant by that restriction idea, that's true that if everyone captains the same player then it feels like playing with 10 players. But where do you stop then, many players choose template teams, that makes the game also less intresting don't you think. Are you gonna then restrict the ownerships of players as well.....

          2. Hiiler
            • 2 Years

If you want to make game harder and more intresting why not eliminate Bonus points and give Some individual points for stuff that cummulatively gave bons points.

Like UEFA and Bundesliga does. For example tacles, shots on goal and so on. This would make people to chose differenrt players in their teams as well,

      2. Drexl Spivey

Brilliant idea. Just cap the amount of times you can captain any single player in a given season. Problem solved.

Points deduction for conceding a penalty, replacing points deduction for scoring an OG.

OGs are accidental; penaltiy concessions are deliberate, at least in the mind of the referee and therefore 'officially'.

I've never understood why one gets a points deduction and the other doesn't.

Why not eliminate bonus points and use similar ways to give extra points as CL and Bundesliga uses. For example points for tacles, shot on target balls recovered. Why not even miles covered on pitch and so on. There are a lot of statistics you can use this way for points.

This would make it little bit harder to build your teams and maybe thus make teams a little more different and not so template.

I think they have to postpone it but they might not. We’ll see

Has any game not been postponed yet after a request?

Would be surprised if this one goes ahead given the lack of numbers for Arsenal

The unknown is how long it takes for things to clear eg: Will Burnley Watford also be off

Good morning. The rankings continue to intrigue me. I am currently on 0pts. Gallagher is 17% owned and Maupay 7%. This is without taking into account those who loaded up with other Brighton players on a FH. My rank however, has remained at 193k but dropped by a mere 226 places.

The average team took a -4 so any points gained is likely offset by the hit, therefore minimal change after just one game.
Also depends what Gallagher EO is around your rank

Changing starting prices in FPL shouldn't be that hard right? What's up with insisting on the 0.5 structure? Would be so much better if it was 0.1, so starting prices could vary and be adapted much more fair, for example a defender that isn't nailed but has a good chance of starting or fight into the starting XI could be 4.2 instead of 4.0.

I think that’s one of the best ideas mentioned… we’d get much more variation in starting teams too I think. The 0.5 differences make it much harder to plan transfers at the start too until a few prices have changed.

Me too. I had the armband on Kane, then found out about the possible postponement so brought Ronaldo in for a -8 and captained him along with De Gea as I had no playing GK sub for Ramsdale in case he didn't play also. I've already accepted Kane hauling in both games, Ramsdale too, and a CR7 no-show.

I think Villa will score. If Coutinho plays you can expect some save points with him taking all those shots from outside thr box. So 3 or 4 there. Can expect max 6 in the other one. So 9 × 2 if all goes well. I captained him for his security of starts. I have Ronaldo buy did not see him playing 180.

Regarding the hacking of accounts on FPL, you’d think an account making 100s of moves in quick succession would raise some kind of red flag in their system.

While the website itself looks quick slick and is nice to use, they seem to put the minimum of effort into security despite previous hacks and consistently fail to develop the core game - it’s been the same with the same flaws for a decade.

I know it’s a free game but they could do a lot better.

Early thoughts on my options for next week assuming Villa get a DGW?

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo Tierney Alonso
    Foden Jota Bowen Mbeumo
    Ronaldo Antonio

Foster Son Broja Williams, 1 FT 1.3m itb

    A) Broja, Son > Watkins & Raphinha -4pts
    B) Antonio > Watkins
    C) Son > Sterling
    D) smth else?

The evidence we had going into the deadline was that Ronaldo was the best captaincy option, in my opinion. The info we learnt after, regarding Maguire is irrelevant, as we can’t change anything. I’m not fussed, out our hands.
