Suspensions

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a one-match ban and who is safe?

Our Suspension Tightrope series summarises the current state of play regarding bans for yellow card accumulation – although there’s now little to worry about for the vast majority of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

Most players have now escaped the threat of a one-match suspension, with the yellow card amnesty arriving after the completion of a team’s 19th league fixture (more on that later).

There are still four Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assets who could pick up a ban, however, which we detail below.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Granit Xhaka (£4.8m) is the only Premier League player banned for Gameweek 23, with his dismissal in the EFL Cup semi-final last Thursday meaning that he will miss the return leg this week and Sunday’s visit of Burnley.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after a team’s 19th league fixture.

Only three sides have yet to reach that landmark: Burnley, Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs and Leicester will do so after they meet at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday (part of Gameweek 22), while Burnley won’t reach their 19th fixture until their Gameweek 23 clash with Arsenal.

This could change if there are further postponements, of course.

ON FOUR/THREE YELLOW CARDS

Cornet and Smith Rowe 3

As a result of what we discussed above, there are very few players who can now pick up a ban as a result of yellow card accumulation.

Just two players remain at risk of an immediate suspension.

Josh Brownhill (£4.3m) and Cristian Romero (£4.8m) are both on four yellow cards, although Romero likely won’t be fit enough to feature in Spurs’ 19th league fixture anyway.

It’s also worth mentioning Jay Rodriguez (£5.2m) and Ben Mee (£4.8m), as they are the only two players sitting on three yellow cards who can now get a one-match ban for bookings accumulated, although they’d have to be cautioned twice in as many league matches to get a suspension.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

No-one is close to that unwanted landmark just yet, with Mohammed Salisu (£4.5m) leading the race on seven cautions.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

Do you think Vlahovic to Arsenal could happen? Would such a great transfer if it came to life. Wonder what price he would be, have no idea really, probably something around 8-9m? Would you go for him as soon as he is available?

It seems Arsenal are pushing hard for the move. Difficult to get done this window though. 8mil would be too cheap I think. Probably 9-9.5

What's interesting is that although by watching him it's pretty obvious he has enormous talent, his stats aren't that good to be honest. Barely 0.4 non-pen xG per 90 minutes isn't that phenomenal. But he's still only 21.

Considering laca is around 8.5ish , I'd say he will probably be around 9-9.5.. more 9.5 considering fpl like to price players slightly on the higher side

Good morning all, hope we're well? Four pressers scheduled for today and we should get all four managers whose teams are involved in the Wednesday games (inc Rangnick) tomorrow:

    Ranieri - 11am
    Potter - 1.30pm
    Tuchel - 1.30pm
    Dyche - 3.30pm

Not counting my chickens yet! I've ominously not actually seen any Ranieri quotes coming through as yet despite the 11am list time, although the schedule we receive can sometimes be out by an hour or two.

Burnley had five players with Covid-19 ahead of their FA Cup tie on January 8 so you'd think that group would at least be nearing a return by now.

Good to go for next gameweek?

    Foster
    TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger
    Foden, Maddison, Jota, Bowen
    Dennis, King, Watkins

    Sanchez, White, Son, Livramento

    1ft, 5.2 itb

Plan is to either roll ft or do a Rudiger>Cash this week, dependant on Villa DGW.
Then easy 1ft for Maddison>Salah next gameweek. Son should recover also, Giving me a juicy midfield of Son, Salah, Foden, Bowen, Jota.

In a similar position myself - waiting on Villa DGW news to make a decision.

I think that the past couple of weeks should act as a learning exercise for me... wildcarded when my pre-wc team ended on more points, then made 2 transfers this week so a -4 and now have Raphinha and Ramsey points sat on the bench, should have more faith in the players I have! Still have a few players left to go so things could change, but going forward I think it's about trusting your instincts and not get distracted by too many outside influences, really valuing the transfers that you make, and 100% waiting until the deadline to make any decisions!

Being cool headed is not a bad thing, but not following (I blame having life) what's happening with CR7 for some days before dl cost me not getting Bruno. Normally I should have gotten him. I really shouldn't have trusted the player I ended up fielding instead of him.

      1. Tic Tacs
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 2 months ago

Yeah it's very true that we can't always be around for all the info, to be honest I never considered Bruno and by the time he would've become the only viable captain choice for me then it was too late as I'd already made transfers. So in that instance, leaving my decision til the last minute would've been beneficial, I always get distracted by price rises/falls so felt like I needed to sell Son early!

Losing hard earned tv this early in the season is annoying. And unfortunate things with timing sometimes just happen. I for example played my WC on gw 21 when Dennis was proud to represent his country. Bought him back immediately week after for his dgw to give him armband. Had he gone to Afcon, I would have been basically forced to C Bruno, since there was zero possibity for C King for me. But sometimes these things happen. If I was fighting in top 100 or something like that, I wouldn't have let life happen though.

Only Bowen, feel like an idiot since not even considering Bruno. The other mistake was not noticing earlier KdB, but he had Che. Well, I missed Bruno, but there are going to be other times. Unfortunately, trying to attack with captaincy when Salah is back is much more difficult and risks may outweigh the benefits.

This week switched the armband from Kane to Mount.

Might be overdramatic but I feel like my team is a mess. No clue how I got here:

    Ramsdale
    Rudiger Keane TAA Cancelo
    Salah* Bowen Son* Foden
    Broja Antonio

    Foster Johnson ESR* Gelhardt*.

    1. Salah/Son -> Bruno/KDB -4. Leaves me 3.4 ITB, easy way back to Salah.

the fixture list isa mess which is how our teams ended up so.

When is Salah back? Might be a hold there and save the tranny. Possibly the same with Son, so wait for news on his injury. Granted you have alot of value tied up in them so to hold another week poss not an option

ESR, Gelhardt, Keane are priority. Possbly ESR to Harrison or Martinelli?

Keane actually might be alright with their fixtures and new manager but there's lots of decent budget defs at the same price

Maybe it's not as bad as it looks? You will want Salah back in February. Also need to listen up for Son return news.

Was tempted to suggest playing a FH to carry you over to Salah return. But there will be better weeks to use FHs and then I noticed a couple of other issues. Three CHE/Ars players ahead of their blank GWs in early Feb. Also Salah may not be rushed back into the starting line-up especially if Egypt make the final at AFCON.

And three WHU. Including Johnson who is now out of the team since Cresswell's return from injury. You may need your WC for later. MCY, WHU and CHE have played FOUR games more than Leicester and Spurs, and you will want their assets when those fixtures get rescheduled.

      So Option 1. for me.

Flying on private jet and taking a nap during it on the sofa or even in bed is easy for him, not for us mortals.

His wife posted a photo on her Instagram hours later on a airport runway in the dark. He's probably already back in England.

Who would you be more inclined to sell?
    1. Coufal 4.7m
    2. Dalot 4.4m

    DDG.
TAA, Cancelo, Tierney, Dalot, Coufal is current defence.
Dalot worth keep just for the savings alone?

      Dalot

He offers nothing right now, no CS and no attacking returns.

Dalot. Less nailed on than a more attacking Coufal.

Depends how you use the savings.

Coufal. His defending vs Harrison didn't go as planned and I have zero idea now which of them is more likely to play. That 0.3 might be handy and save one transfer in the future. Dalot also plays in better defense. When I don't know with two players who gets more points, I buy the cheaper one or sell the more expensive one. Easy decision making rule.

Broja for less. Not been as good as Dennis yet this season but signs that he's improving while Dennis is dipping.

Broja in GW26/27 for a nice run of fixtures actually worth considering to free up +- 1.0

Benching or selling when I can. Kane probably has to go for Idah first. I fear that Broja may become a game time worry when other strikers get match fit from injuries.

I'd be very curious to see at the end of the season how many total fixtures each FPL manager was able to plan around.

It's gonna be crazy how many DGWs there are gonna be and a good manager should be able to cram in maybe 5-10 more fixtures with careful planning.

That of course doesn't take into account the quality of the players, but sheer volume should count for something. We each get the same chips so would be interesting to see what wins out in the end... FH'ing a blank to field XI or FH'ing a DGW to get more doublers.

I'm just curious about raw fixtures. Maybe someone will help develop a tool to keep track of that.

That is why Im not worried about using up chips early , besides the TC and 1 FH chip . Try and boost rank early , limited options the further the season go's when FH and WC's are all bringing the same players in. No way to boost rank then so the early chip use / boost allows use of hits to keep up with the "late guys"
This is a different season be different !

Depends... this week Free Hitters are down on the average score. Playing a FH/WC chip isn't a guarantee of boosting rank.

Easier to gain and lose out on DGW's. Safer but less points on reduced GW's

Yep FHs down this week bad luck next week probably Up . All about timing really and luck for sure. I played 1st FH with a big boost and 2nd WC early . BB this GW a TOTAL fail but still on 84 pts ., with Dennis , Bruno Cpt and De Gea to go
          Up ro 6 K odd from 190 k 6 gws back.
Could all change by the end of the GW but pretty sure I should still be up from 27K lats week.
Point is be flexibible and take risks , nothing to lose !

    The Bench Boost Dilemma:

I’ve been racking my brains round this for a while as to why this chip is an extra pain in the backside this year. We all have big squads, lots have 2 keepers…Fixture postponements, Doubles that are not doubles and strikers.oh, and having 2 free hits.

I think it’s the strikers. Sticking to 5 mids is the hard part, and getting in TAA/Cancello/Alonso + wolves/Brighton/arsenal etc makes defence ok. Getting 3 strikers in that play/can score & don’t break your budget is a nightmare!

The 2 FH chips means I’ve got those extra options for whenever the doubles and (planned) blanks happen too. With teams picking & choosing when they play whilst AFCON is on means there are lots of games to be scheduled & more to fit in given cup commitments etc.

Conclusion? If you get a feeling to play it just crack on and get a fodder in yo boost you 11.

If not don’t force it as there will be opportunities in the future and you would expect strikers to start scoring at some point, right?

    Afternoon all

Anyone considering going for Ramsey over Coutinho?

At his price would make for the perfect enabler as part of a BB.

Yes, it's crossed my mind. But I'm not sure who misses out. Can Ramsey/Coutinho/Buendia all play together? If they do - with Luiz-McGinn behind, I assume Ings will drop to the bench?

      • 5 Years

I don't see how they can bench him with the way he's playing. Ings has looked poor of late so perhaps he'll be dropped as you say.
