International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 24?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) takes a backseat over the next fortnight, with Burnley v Watford rounding off Double Gameweek 23 at the beginning of February and the Gameweek 24 deadline following in the midweek after it.

The next two weeks will be a ‘winter break’ for most FPL assets but it’s instead an international fortnight for those Premier League players who represent countries outside of Europe.

There are FIFA World Cup qualifiers taking place in North America, South America and Asia, while the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continues with the knockout rounds and Chris Wood‘s (£6.7m) New Zealand have a couple of friendlies to contest.

A total of 30 FPL players are in World Cup action over the next week, including Raphinha (£6.6m), Philippe Coutinho (£7.0m), Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m) and Emerson Royal (£5.0m). Around about the same number have been away at AFCON, although these players are gradually starting to return home as their respective countries are eliminated.

The likes of Richarlison (£7.4m), Douglas Luiz (£4.4m) and Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) haven’t been called up by their nations, while Son Heung-min (£10.6m), Hwang Hee-chan (£5.4m), Cristian Romero (£4.8m) and Takehiro Tomiyasu (£4.7m) miss out because of injury.

It remains to be seen if Raul Jimenez (£7.4m) hooks up with Mexico, after missing Gameweek 23 with a calf problem.

Late returns from around the globe shouldn’t be an issue, with Gameweek 24 not kicking off until Tuesday 8 February – not far off a week after the international action comes to a close. Injuries could be picked up, however, so it’s worth monitoring the fortunes of those involved and holding fire on any early transfers.

    Lots of WC talk since the last post.

    Be wary that there'll be fixture swings in GW28 for teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton, Wolves (all good), United and Brighton (bad).

    I'm contemplating WCing in GW28 so I can ditch DDG for Sa, get back my Chelsea assets (James could be ready by then) and target players like JWP Broja (King replacement), Tierney, RAN and Saka. Plus it's nearer to BGW30 and also after FA Cup 5th round, so we'll get better information on which team will play/blank in 30. Heck even Pope is a consideration, surely Burnley will play in 30 given the amount of their postponed games.

    So in the meantime I can focus on getting players with good immediate fixtures and potential DGW in 25 or 26, like Bruno, Dalot, Spurs, Leicester and BHA & remove them on WC, while keeping the mainstays like TAA Cancelo Salah and Bowen. Maybe Digne too.

      Came to the same conclusion yesterday while making up a WC draft. Dead end it in week 28.

            Aahh I see. Yeah if Arsenal Leicester and Chelsea somehow don't blank in 27, then WCing a week early in 27 is a viable strategy imo. Plus can also target 3 lovely fixtures for.. *drum rolls* Toney lol

      Leicester DGWs are unlikely to happen til after GW30, and are impossible in 25 & 26 due to their conference league fixtures vs Randers, so they might actually fall into the WC-into category

        Aahh missed that. Thanks for reminding me. I got Maddison and it's actually hard to hold him with his poor immediate fixtures, however Leicester got 4 very good postponed games so I thought of giving him a chance. Looks like he's sellable, despite knowing that he can score against anyone, and worth getting back on WC. Thanks for the clarification.

      Just out of interest, what would your WC team in GW28 look like?

      I've triggered and have players now which I'd aim to sit on really for the majority of the season but would be interested to see if there were any in my list you wouldn't look to keep?

      For example;

      DDG - Steer
      TAA - Robertson - Laporte - Cancelo - Digne
      Salah - KDB - Bowen - Gallagher - Ramsey
      Kane - Broja - Richardson

      For me,

      TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Salah, KDB, possibly Broja are season keepers.

      Kane -> Lukaku
      Laporte -> James
      Bowen -> Arsenal mid
      DDG -> Sa

      Would be what I'd look at over a 4 week period, wondering if you think I'm missing something?

        I'm yet to have a proper draft but with very decent TV, I can actually afford this:

        Sa Pope
        TAA Cancelo Tierney Digne (Rudi/James/Dias)
        Salah Bowen Jota Mount (Maddison/JWP/Saka)
        Broja Daka (Antonio/Watkins)

        Yours is a very good WC team. Just be wary that Gallagher's fixtures are pretty mixed after 25, KDB can be rotated for UCL (esp vs Norwich in 25) and under the current climate, I wouldn't want a Steer or Richardson in my team. Other than that, I really don't think Kane is worth his price, and Liverpool is still a top attacking team and look shaky at the back, so I'm in the keep Jota camp rather than get Robbo camp.

        Just my two cents buddy.

      Looks quite good, a few questions;

      1) If you're going Butland, you might as well go Steer and save yourself a bit of cash. Butland doesn't play now Guita is back
      2) How much is Williams can you upgrade him or Brownhill
      3) Do you have your BB? Else you can narrow your players down
      4) Watkins - personally I don't think he's passed the eye test. ASM was someone I was considering.

      1. tommo-uk-
        • 11 Years

        Good point with Butland.

        Williams is 3.9m and Brownhill 4.3. Could look at upgrading if anything left over.

        Yes I do have BB so was trying to get 15 starters if possible and then narrow down after using it.

        Villa have really good fixtures coming up but I do like the ASM route providing Newcastle start scoring.

      Nice not bad at all. Personally once Salah is back Jota will be going so if funds could stretch someone like KDB would be ideal. Bit bottom heavy with defenders too (not necessarily a bad idea) but perhaps laporte/reguilon to a cheaper option to free up some cash?

      Nice front three I am hoping to get broja and or edouard in soon

      Not bad at all I would prefer to have 1 cheaper mid (maybe Jacob Ramsey for Coutinho) and then upgrade one of them defenders to Robertson

      Dalot to Laporte.
      A cheaper mid if you need it to pay. Coutinho or Raph.

      No chance, 2 transfers and would look alot better
      Get rid of Ronnie and King/Dennis to Watkins and maybe Broja, then gives you a fair amount of cash for the week after to upgrade a defender

      So realistically 3 transfers to sort out your attack and defence isnt worth wasting your WC

    WC Team:

    Sanchez (Gunn)
    TAA Cancelo Laporte Digne (Williams)
    Salah KDB Bowen (Ramsey, Allan)
    Kane Antonio Dennis

    Do you think Antonio or Watkins? Villa got some good fixtures coming up.
    Is Kane worth the money?
    Dennis to Broja? Is Broja gonna play enough mins..

      Perhaps go 442 rather than 3 up front as there is better value elsewhere.

    Slowly climbed into the top 50k now. How does this plan look to you:

    Lloris, Steele
    Laporte, Cancelo, TAA, Tierney, Ait Nouri
    Jota, Bowen, KDB, Martinelli, Mount
    Ronaldo, Dennis, Davis

    Next moves:
    Ronaldo to Watkins
    Mount to Salah
    then
    Martinelli to Ramsay.
    Dennis to someone.
