After bringing you a round-up of Thursday’s pre-FA Cup press conferences, we continue our summary of the early Gameweek 24 team news with a rundown of Friday’s media gatherings.

The managers of Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Norwich City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers will all face reporters, so we’ll recap the key quotes in the article below.

And where better to start than a significant update from Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and Sadio Mane (£11.7m)…

LIVERPOOL

Klopp was fairly positive on his two premium midfielders when asked about their prospects of returning in time to face Leicester City, although did leave enough doubt about their Gameweek 24 involvement.

“I think they will be available, we will see. The one who wins will probably fly back to their home country, celebration, that’s how it is. I think Tuesday or Wednesday, latest, the winner will be back, and the other one probably slightly earlier. We will see. And then I have to talk to them, I don’t know. One thing, they have rhythm as they’ve played obviously quite a few games!” – Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah/Sadio Mane

The Liverpool boss also gave an update on his previously injured players, with the Reds now close to having a clean bill of health.

“[Harvey Elliott] is in a good place and is in full team training now, but we have to see what is right for him – is it right to start [or] is it right to come on? But he will be in the squad definitely for the Cardiff game and from there we go.

“Most of the things look completely natural, absolutely, really quick after a long, long period without proper team training. When you saw him the first time, you thought immediately, ‘Maybe we take him with us’ but it obviously made no sense. He has now to go step by step to get back to his best, but he is close. Very close.

“Thiago trained with us. Unfortunately, when COVID is around you always think it is the only infection or virus you can get, but he had a little chest infection so he had to step a little bit aside again. That’s not perfect, of course, but I expect him to be in team training today again so we will see. The injury is completely fine, he looked really good in training, but that’s how sometimes things are. We will see how we can use him for Sunday.

“Naby is completely fine. Naby came back full of energy, had a few days off as well. Came back here after the tournament full of energy and confidence, so that looked good.

“Divock, yesterday, first time full team training, looked very good, but it was the first time full team training after a while, so from here we go as well.”

Klopp also discussed new signing Luis Diaz, urging caution with the young winger.

“If he would now come, step on the pitch, and was immediately at his absolute best and playing better than all others then it would be really strange. He needs time to adapt to it but that doesn’t mean I speak about four or five months or whatever. I haven’t even seen him yet here on the training ground so maybe we should wait a little bit!

“We are really happy and excited about the signing. I think it’s a really good sign that we work on all fronts to improve this team. We have to be successful now and in the future, so he can help with both.” – Jurgen Klopp on Luis Diaz

CHELSEA

Reece James (hamstring) has returned to individual training but is still some way from a playing comeback and will play no part in Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth-round tie or the two Club World Cup fixtures in the coming week.

Gameweek 26 might still be a bit of a doubt, too, based on Thomas Tuchel’s comments on Friday afternoon.

“Not Reece James, not Ben Chilwell, not Ruben Loftus-Cheek. They are still injured. Everybody else was in training except Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva (who were on international duty).

“[James] is not in team training yet. After these couple of weeks where he’s out now, he needs also some time in team training to get the rhythm back, to get confidence back before we can think about letting him play. He does not travel with us tomorrow to Abu Dhabi because he’s not part of team training.” – Thomas Tuchel

MANCHESTER CITY

Gabriel Jesus is a fresh concern for Manchester City ahead of their FA Cup tie against Fulham after returning from international duty with Brazil.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has returned to training but Cole Palmer remains out with an undisclosed issue.

“Except Gabriel [Jesus], who came with a little niggle after the international break, the rest that were able before the international break, they are able tomorrow.

“Cole Palmer is not ready. After the game in the FA Cup, had some problems and still is not available. He’s not training with us since then, we’ll see what happens the next weeks.” – Pep Guardiola

LEICESTER CITY

Jamie Vardy (hamstring), Wesley Fofana (leg), Ricardo Pereira (leg), Jonny Evans (hamstring) and Ryan Bertrand (knee) remain on the Leicester injury list but Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi are back from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Brendan Rodgers revealed that Vardy and Evans are still at least a month away from a return but Fofana could be back sooner.

“Vards is probably about four weeks or so, Jonny will be a bit longer, maybe up to six weeks. Their contribution is still very important off the field.

“[Fofana] will look to join in the squad the week beginning 14 February, which is great news for us. He’s working very hard with our medical and sports science teams. He’s looking very strong and is, of course, in this final period before he rejoins the squad for training. We’ll then assess it from there. We’ll see where he’s at in that first week and, hopefully, somewhere in February, he’ll be close to playing.” – Brendan Rodgers

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Son Heung-min (muscle) and Cristian Romero (hamstring) are both available for selection ahead of Spurs’ FA Cup tie against Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend, with Japhet Tanganga (knee) and Oliver Skipp (groin) the only two absentees.

“For sure, Cristian could be a new signing for us! With me, he’s only played two games. It’s important to have a player with his potential available now. We’ve seen the improvement in Sanchez, Davies, Tanganga, it was good, and now to have Cristian available is good news, and like a new player for me.

“Sonny is okay, and now we have three games in a few days, it will be very important to give him the right minutes to play, but Sonny is another player that, you know very well, is very important for us. He can move the balance during a game. I’m very happy to have him available again.” – Antonio Conte

Conte confirmed that new signings Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur will also be available but that neither player will start.

The Spurs boss, interestingly, went on to say that Kulusevski has the potential to play at right wing-back, as well as in a number 10 role – so may end up providing occasional competition for Emerson Royal.

“He is a good player, he’s very young. I think he’s a great talent. He can play like a number 10 if you want to play with two players behind the striker.

“At the same time, he has the potential to play also as a wing-back on the right. He has good quality. He likes to attack, he’s good in one vs ones, to create chances for his teammates. I think a good signing for us.” – Antonio Conte on Dejan Kulusevski

WEST HAM UNITED

Michail Antonio racked up three starts and 220 minutes of football for Jamaica over the international break and his late return to London means that he is unlikely to feature against Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup this weekend. It’s not ideal with regards to his long-term fatigue levels, either, although his Gameweek 24 game-time prospects would obviously be aided by a rest on Saturday.

“Mic will arrive back today at 11am from Jamaica, which as you can imagine is not particularly good. If you look at it realistically, you’d have to say it’s a terrible situation.” – David Moyes

Moyes hinted that he would spare a few other key players against the non-league outfit:

“Our players are well-rested, but I also have to say that we have a Premier League game in midweek as well, so that has to come into consideration.” – David Moyes

CRYSTAL PALACE

Patrick Vieira revealed that Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur – back from international duty and a hamstring injury respectively – won’t feature in the FA Cup this weekend and need “a couple more days”. Both players should be involved against Norwich in Gameweek 24.

James Tomkins is also back in training after a month on the sidelines with an unspecified issue.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Bruno Lage says there is no change from the Wolves squad that faced Brentford in terms of injuries. Jonny (knee), Willy Boly (calf) and Pedro Neto (knee) have all started working with the team but are not ready.

NORWICH CITY

Norwich should have four players back for the Gameweek 24 clash with Crystal Palace: Mathias Normann, Billy Gilmour, Lukas Rupp and Andrew Omobamidele.

“We’ve got Billy Gilmour back, Mathias Normann back. Lukas Rupp and Andrew Omobamidele are back on the grass but I won’t consider them for Wolves as they’re not quite ready. They’ll be ready for Palace in the week. It’s great to have four big players back for us who’ve been out for quite a few weeks.” – Dean Smith

However, Tim Krul (shoulder) and Jacob Sorensen (knee) remain sidelined after picking up injuries before the winter break.

“Tim Krul is still out, he’s doing some light handling work at the moment. An operation wasn’t required but we have to be careful with it being a shoulder injury.

“Jacob Sorensen is better than what we thought. It’s a medial ligament injury, he’s running on the grass and healing a lot quicker. He won’t be out for too much longer.” – Dean Smith

Is there any point getting in Ronaldo for the double if I already have Kane, just to want Kane back in for his double in 26? I'm likely to captain KDB for GW24 and 25 anyway even though he doesn't double, his fixtures are great and he's in form.

Nope. I wouldn't buy Ronaldo if you don't already have him.

Somehow I have both Ronaldo and Kane so my decision is made...

Thanks, I guess having Ronaldo already is no big deal as he can return in any game. I'm likely to avoid Utd assets altogether (apart from DDG), it's too difficult to predict who will play and their games aren't that easy tbh.

Outside of Sanchez and Cucurella, do we think Dunk is nailed to play the double for Brighton in GW25. I'm playing my Wildcard and want to get a Brighton defender in my team.

    Cheers.

Eyes on the FA cup game, expect he comes straight back in. Webster a safe if boring alternative for nailed minutes.

Team is looking fairly good for next few weeks, but got 2FT and 1.3itb.... any recommendations?

    DDG
    Cancelo TAA Digne Reguilon
    Salah Foden Jota Bowen
    Watkins Antonio

    Guaita Dawson Dennis DLuiz

Was planning Reguilon > Laporte but now they have the double I may hold him.
Luiz > Martinelli is an option to build to DGW25 but will give me a benching headache.
Dawson>Laporte / Arsenal is also an option.

Did not remove Salah for Afcon, but really want to play the fixtures...Toughts here?

    A) Keep Salah
    B) Salah -> KDB (C)
    C) Salah -> Bruno (GW 25 Captain)

Klopp suggests he'll be back, so surely it's a keep if you've kept this long? Risk is you waste two transfers getting him out and in - likely means you'll just take hits to put other fires out

Yep. The main reason is that i dont know is it possible he play against LEI + BUR cos that Inter game...

I think KDB is one of the best captains this weeks and Bruno is for GW25. Its tough.

    1FT 7.9m ITB

    Guaita
    TAA Cancelo White
    Jota Foden Bernardo Raph Bowen
    Antonio Watkins

    Foster - King Dawson Livra

Worth making any moves this week? Thinking of saving then getting Bruno (C) for Bilva next week and follow that up with Bruno + Foden > Salah (TC) + Son/Arsenal mid in 26. Might throw in a defender transfer in there somewhere, maybe in 25 (Brighton?) as Dawson, Livra & White have bad/no fixture.

Going Son over an Arsenal mid most likely as I've already blown one of my FHs so want to avoid using the last one in 27.

Would you WC this? Too many dead ends and feel like loading the midfield is where points will be at.

    De Gea, Foster
    TAA, Cancelo, White, Cucurella, Keane
    Bowen, Jota, Silva, Gray, Trossard
    Antonio, Dennis, Ronaldo

Losing all but Bowen of the front eight I could get KDB, Son and Bruno in the middle with 2x6.5m forwards and enough in the bank for Salah which feels tempting....

    I have a benching headache...

I need to play 2 out of these 5:

    A. ASM (EVE)
    B. Tierney (wol)
    C. Coady (ARS)
    D. Ramsey (LEE)
    E. Dennis (whu)

Which two will score the most points this week do we think? Would welcome people's thoughts...

    4.3itb 1FT.

    DDG (Steele*)
    Cancelo TAA Reguilon Cash (Rudiger)
    Jota Bowen Gray Raphinha (Maddison)
    Kane Antonio (Dennis)

Need to downgrade def a bit. Was thinking Rudiger + Maddison to Bruno (Salah in 26) and Ait Nouri. Thoughts? Could obv go for KDB instead and hide in dgw25.

Is this an easy roll? Pretty well set up for GW25 already with four doublers (Sanchez, Trossard, Bruno, Ronaldo). Only 5 currently for GW26 but will likely do something like Antonio to Eduoard next GW and roll 2 FT's into GW26.

If you play the game according to fixtures, as the best fpl players do, then Crystal Palace are the team to be on.

Who are you looking at from Palace over the next five matches upto Burnley in gw27?

Anyone worth it, Edouard, Gallagher, Schlupp, Olise?

    1. The Bandit

I have Edouard and that's enough for me. I would have got Gallagher, but he doesn't have a DGW.

Too much rotation for my liking, Gallagher is immune to that but no double for him.

Mateta is highly rated by PV, you have Benteke, Zaha, Ayew and Eze to throw into the mix - there should be better options - I'm looking at Zaha as a punt for 26 and 27 only.

I agree guys, Edouard is the best option.

Villa have decent fixtures too but little attacking form to punt into either Watkins or Ings.

It's an eternal shake up of the front 3 if you're not careful in this game!

    Thoughts on the plan below?

GW24: Gray Maddison to KDB (C) Ramsey -4
    GW25: Keep FT and CR7 (C)
GW26: DDG Ramsey CR7 to Rambo Salah (TC) Broja -4 or KDB DDG to Rambo Salah (TC)
    GW27: FH

Means ignoring Salah until GW26 however have other options to (C).

in the event of no WC I would be happy to take a -8. I think I’d like to get edouard and possibly Bruno? anything else missing?

Have 2 big dilemmas, what do you guys think

    1) Currently have ddg, dalot, ron for dgw25. The thoughts of Bruno for the previous dgw still haunt me...so is it worth swapping dalot >> Bruno? something along the lines of Dalot/Gundog >> Veltman/Bruno...and then Bruno becomes Salah in gw26. Alternatively, can save 1ft and do straight gundog >> salah

    2) With DDG and Foster in goal. Would you do Ddg >> Ramsdale in dgw26? or play foster as he has a dgw too. No ramsdale could be a rank killer given their fixutres and his ceiling. If i was def FH27, then i think it's worth it but if i can get away without FH27, then would you still make the move? and just play foster (mun) in bgw27

      1. Definite no. You stick with what you have.
      2. FH 27.

I'd rather have a Brighton defender over a mancunian.

WC team check appreciated on this lot:

    Ransdale Sanchez
    TAA Robbo Cancello Digne Dalot
    KDB Bruno Bowen Jota Ramsey
    Watkins Edouard Broja

Really not sure on Watkins and he's there as an enabler for the price bracket if nothing else (i.e. DCL if he finds form)

Pretty much the setup I would go for if on WC. But what's your plan for Salah?

either Bruno or KDB out for him

You're going to hate your team in 4/5 weeks' time. With Dalot, Ramsey and Broja, if you want them out it will require 2 transfers (maybe not Dalot). Looks inflexible.

Ramsey at 4.6 is a no brainer - improving with every game and provides good Villa cover with anticipated DGW's. Broja similar, I've had him in my team for a while and don't see any reason to shift. Agree re Dalot, and he may well become RAN before the deadline

        Thanks for the feedback

I see elsewhere that your plan is bb 26 and fh 27. My concern is, with triple Liverpool, if you want Salah then that's your two transfers booked in for 26. FH in 27 effectively means your team from 28 is the one above but with Salah and a.n.other, in which case you have given yourself too many fires to fight from 28 onwards (triple Villa, too many sgwers, etc.)

Throw in player injuries, surprise team selections (not one of your strikers is 100% nailed), fixture rearrangements - it seems like you'll smash the next 4 weeks but at the expense of the rest of your season.

Not really sure what to suggest though 🙂 as it's hard to improve your wildcard squad for the here and now.

I don't like it. But I don't like Robbo teams as per my hot topic from last week. Feels inflexible.

I did read your post and fully took on board what you said. I think I commented on it actually, saying how previously double ups with TAA haven't been very fruitful in the past. I've tinkered with the set up numerous times and had Laporte in there for example, but not sold on double City defence for reasons well known. One consideration is dropping down to the 5m level, which is an enabler for upgrading Jota > Son.....but, I want to keep Jota for this gw. Appreciate the feedback.

    Who would you go for?
    a) Antonio (WAT, lei, NEW)
    b) DCL (new, LEE, sou)
    c) Edouard (nor, bre, CHE, wat), the only one with dgw and with 1.4m extra ITB, but with a -4 hit

I'd go C but not sure what you mean about the hit. Does that apply to all three options or are you maxed out on Palace players so that's what is forcing the hit?

I already have Antonio and DCL, but I want to get rid of them. The only thing holding me back are the nice fixtures they both have.

OR I trade one of them for Broja and keep the other one until GW 28.

OR I trade both for Edouard and Maupay/Weghorst/... in the coming weeks.

Ah right. I don't think there is a rush to get rid of either with their fixtures this GW but I'm eyeing up Antonio to Edouard next week. I'd like to see how Antonio is looking after the winter break before making that switch though.

Winter break? He just played 220 minutes with Jamaica. 😀

Anyone worried about Edouards away-record? 3 away games coming up and he blanked in 7 out of 8 this season.

              Ha true.

Yeah I think Palace's away record is another reason you can probably wait on that transfer this week.

Had my account hacked yesterday, all players transferred out and replaced. Now to retrive the team, I will need to use one of my chips. Which would you reccomend, wc or fh. Currently favouring wc as fh seems pointless with no standout fixs or dgw.

    Thoughs pls...

Ignore post below. Really sorry to hear that. I'd go for WC as you'll just end up getting back the players that the hackers transferred in if using the FH. At least with WC you can set yourself up well for the coming doubles too.

difficult to know without knowing what your last team was like and would therefore go back to after FH

new password installed, old team was pretty much template

        de Gea
        TAA Walker Cancelo
        Martinelli Jota Bowen Foden
        Antonio Dennis Kane
        Steele Gray Dalot Coufal
