Having taken the Premier League by storm in his debut season for West Brom back in 2010/11, Peter Odemwingie declined dramatically as a Fantasy prospect in his second full campaign to assume “Sleeper” status.

Handed a modest starting price across the Fantasy games upon his arrival from Lokomotiv Moscow, the Nigerian striker proved to be a superb value option and fired 15 goals and nine assists, racking up 171 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Predictably, Odemwingie’s Fantasy valuation spiked for last season as a result, with the FPL slapping a 7.5 tag on his services, a factor that was to ultimately dull his appeal before a ball had been kicked. As it turned out, our disinterest was justified.

Odemwingie was handed 25 stuttered starts for the Baggies, emerging from the bench in five more games. It was a frustrating season, not just for the Nigerian but also his manager at the time, Roy Hodgson. The now England boss vented his feelings in the press back in November, having seen Odemwingie fetch just two goals in nine appearances, with a string of niggles and injuries disrupting his input.

For a player who we really put so much into in the hope that he would be a major force for staying in the Premier League we have not had much of a return.

That criticism at least drew a reaction from the player as Odemwingie struck crucial goals in back-to-back wins at Blackburn and Newcastle shortly after. That settled him within Hodgson’s lineup, although a shift to a 4-5-1 formation saw Odemwingie handed a more withdrawn role on the right-flank. Not that this ultimately hindered the Nigerian’s output too much: after a run of six starts without a goal or assist, Odemwingie blasted five goals in two games, as the Baggies swept aside local rivals Wolves at Molineux and Sunderland at the Hawthorns.

That spectacular spell offered a reminder of the quality that Odemwingie possessed and, having ended the season on 10 goals and four assists, he still finished as West Brom’s most potent attacking Fantasy asset.

The Prospects

Odemwingie’s future at West Brom is still far from secure. The player has previously expressed his desire to find pastures new and, wth last season behind him, the Nigerian soon made his intentions pretty clear

“It is time for me to struggle for silverware not just for survival in the Premier League.”

Meanwhile, his new boss, Steve Clarke, is equally adamant that he’s looking to retain the striker’s services…

“There’s no reason to doubt that he’s not a top, top player and I’m really looking forward to working with him. His goal record here is really good. He’s the man you look to for the goals”

Right now, then, Fantasy managers will be forced to sit back and monitor the situation, not least Odemwingie’s reaction in pre-season and perhaps the effect of renewed interest from Arsene Wenger, a purported admirer.

There’s little doubt that Odemwingie presents the best attacking option within Clarke’s squad right now and that, following a disappointing return last season, we’ll see his valuation decline; a initial value of 7.0 or below seems likely in the FPL.

While a meet with Liverpool and a trip to Spurs present a daunting opening, the Baggies follow that with a decent run of fixtures. Home games with Everton, Reading, QPR and Southampton in the first ten Gameweeks could well ease Clarke’s slippers under the Hawthorns desk and see Odemwingie amongst the goals.

The canny Scot, renowned for his defensive coaching, has promised an attacking brand of football. If Clarke can deliver that and get the best from Odemwingie, Fantasy managers may yet find gold amongst the West Midlands club. With options like Papiss Cisse and Nikaca Jelavic set for significant valuation hikes, Odemwingie is a proven Premier League goalscorer who may well earn our attention once more.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Following on from yesterday's defensive analysis of last season, here is the attacking findings.

Using each team's average goals scored at home and away, and average goals conceded both home and away, I have come up with figures to help me rank each team in order of amounts of goals scored, over the first 6 gameweeks. For the promoted teams, I have used the average of all 3 promoted teams, over the past 3 seasons.

Using Arsenal as example, they scored 2.053 goals at home on average, while their gameweek 1 opponents Sunderland, conceded 1.526 goals away from home on average. Adding these two together and dividing by 2 gives the expected amount of goals that Arsenal will score (roughly 1.8). As you may remember, Arsenal scored 2 goals at home to Sunderland last season, to it isn't too inaccurate. I also took the two figures and multiplied them, and ranked each team from highest to lowest. Combining these two results gave a good outline of teams that can be expected to score well.

I have done this for all 20 teams and their first 6 games to give us an indication of which teams should be looking good to score plenty of goals early on. Remember this is based on stats from last season, we all know things are never the same 2 seasons in a row, with new managers and players etc. Anyway, here is the list of teams ranked, with number 1 being the team predicted to score the most goals and so on..

    1 Man City
    2 Spurs
    3 Chelsea
    4 Man United
    5 Arsenal
    - Norwich
    7 Newcastle
    8 Sunderland
    9 Fulham
    10 Swansea
    11 West Brom
    - Everton
    13 West Ham
    14 QPR
    - Aston Villa
    16 Liverpool
    17 Stoke
    18 Wigan
    19 Reading
    20 Southampton

    i-Pad 2 - some advice required please.

I'm thinking of buying one, but are there any issues with using the i-Pad to access and use the FPL site?

I'm totally ignorant when it comes to computers, and have had issues with the FPL website when using an Android phone. Therefore, I'm keen to know if there are any issues with the FPL site when using Apple products.

On the desktop website you hover over the team selection tab and it opens a little menu of "latest points" and "next gameweek". On the iPad you can't open that little menu because there is no such thing as a hover-over on touchscreens so it just opens whichever is default at the time. Slightly annoying but not a killer.

I'm new to FPL but was just wondering (as you guys are experts)...

How much do prices change over what time period (e.g. is it £.5m in 1-2 weeks or £.5m across whole season, injuries aside)- do these prices only change once season starts or do they change between now and then? Can you profit from buys/ sells before season starts?

Is it possible to stock up on pre-season players which are undervalued and likely to increase in value (e.g. buy Giroud this week and hold him until the RVP situation plays out in hope arsenal lose him and don't sign anyone else, or a fringe player who may step in if player doesn't fully recover from injury)

Also, how how do new players get added/ removed? Do new players often come in then see their price rise/ fall massively or are the FPL people pretty spot on.

Thanks for any response/ help =)

      Hello, welcome.

There's a lot of questions there, I'll list a few pointers on the way it works.

      1) No price changes until after the first day of the season (which nullifies a lot of your questions)
      2) Price changes happen approx 3-4am uk time, so don't change during the day
      3) Price changes are done by the amount of transfers in - check FISO (google: fiso crack the code) for details of price changes
      4) Nobody can rise by more than £0.3m in a GW
      5) The biggest riser over the course of a season last year probably went up by about £1.5m
      6) £0.5m is possible in 2 weeks but there would have to be some SERIOUS transfers in. That said, it happened quite a few times last season
      7) You can make some value in transferring players in/out with your wildcard, if players go up by £0.2m in the GW.
      8) New players get added soon after their transfers. Their price is protected for a week or 2 at first, then price will rise or fall as normal, based on transfers in/out from that point onwards - check FISO during the season

I'm really annoyed about this. When will Europeans stop persecuting Africans? They take our lands, turn our sons into slaves, steal our minerals, and now this.

No. It's their response to my email to them asking how I claim my Tango 12 ball and Russian Federation team jersey. I don't believe it either.

Imagine if I had won the TV (I was in with a shout until Balotelli murdered me and my 6 Germans in the semis).

I'm incandescent with rage. If anyone knows any BS terms and conditions like this for the BPL fantasy game, please let me know. I'd hate come May to think that I won a VIP trip to watch the Arsenal only to be sent a curt email by some contact centre functionary saying "You're from Africa, so sorry for you."
