Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are faced with another challenging captaincy decision as Gameweek 27 and its Friday-night deadline rolls around quickly.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are, of course, facing blanks due to Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, while Burnley are the only club who play twice.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 27 xaptain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Friday’s 18:30 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Wout Weghorst (£6.5m) leads the captain poll for Gameweek 27, pulling in the support of 36.36% ahead of Burnley’s double-header, which includes games against Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

That gives the towering Dutchman a gap of 18 percentage points over Harry Kane (£12.2m), who comes into this round with 18.04% of the vote.

This week’s top three is closed out by team-mate Son Heung-min (£10.8m), who, despite not finding the net in his last three league appearances, is still chipping in with assists and remains a constant threat.

Bruno Fernandes (£11.7m) and Armando Broja (£5.4m), meanwhile, are the best of the rest this time around as Manchester United host a Watford side who conceded four against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, while Ralph Hasenhuttl and his Southampton squad take on rock-bottom Norwich City.

    Bowen Foden Trossard (Salah Saka)
    Broja Weg Edouard

1 FH remaining so not using this week. FT used. WC 28 I guess.

          • 12 Years
          3 years, 11 months ago

I am captaining Mahrez, with Broja VC (this is a punt, I don't recommend).

I didn't like how uninspiring Kane was in their last match against Burnley. Of course, Kane played like "Kane" against City, but I think that could be related to his failed move. Remember Torres? Captaining Weghorst is like chasing points. His stats are not good and I doubt he will score more than 4 points over 2 games.

          1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
            • 5 Years

Fair points (I've been tempted to captain Broja in recent weeks so no judgement there)

I can't comment too much on Burnley v Spurs but he did still hit the bar at one point. I've watched a lot of their games recently and he's been unlucky to not have more returns in general and has passed the eye test for me. Weghorst has as well but it sounded like he was doing more of a hold up the ball job against Spurs so that may be a slight concern. But that being said they also face one of the worst defences in the league in their second game so I feel it could pay off. I don't have any City mids anyway so these are effectively my only options

This is the most relevant question this week. Two standout options, and one who has a DGW. Will this be another Watford-like DGW striker (C) situation though?

    1. Redhulkster
      • 12 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

Na imo weghorst is probably miles above than both Watford strikers and he will actually convert.
Burnley are in form. They may score less, but they get the results.

      1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 11 months ago

They might get three goals in two games. And Weghorst might score one, assist one. The way Leeds are defending, either of Kane or Son might easily get a hat-trick.

        1. sminkypinky
          • 14 Years

Weghorst is definitely in a better situation than Dennis/King were in that week, Burnley are in decent form and he's been playing well. But I'm struggling with the decision too as I can similarly see Son/Kane picking up big hauls

      1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON

The way Leeds are defending right now is historically bad, though, and there does not seem to be much likelihood of that suddenly improving.

            • 9 Years

    3. banskt
      • 12 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

I will bet my money on this being another Watford-like situation.

For comparison, Weghorst has 8 goal attempts over the last 4 games. Even Dennis had 9 attempts (Broja 12, Kane 16, Lacazette 18).

But, its your team - your decision.

With Kane Son Weghorst Cancelo Pope Mee/Tarkowsi there is an incredibly strong FH27 template formed, i think the FH is differential in itself. I can’t afford Bruno, my TV isn’t great so i’ll punt on Sancho.

    Pope
    Cancelo Tarkowski Walker-Peters
    Son Sancho Mahrez Sterling
    Broja Kane Weghorst

Extremely template but happy with this. If i could afford Bruno, I’d probably have him to be honest.

I have all of these bar Mee/Tark and I'm not on FH so I'm pretty happy with my setup for this week, quite rare that I'm prepared that well where I have most of the big picks in a week with so many FH/WCs being played

As you say using FH is in itself differential so you're in a great spot, personally I prefer the idea of Sancho to Bruno this week, he's one of the few ManUtd players that has a bit of consistency of late. I don't think they'll turn over Watford easily but he's picked up some important goals and assists of late so I'd say he'll be up there if they do score a few. Goof luck!

This template is chasing points. Not sure whether it will return much points this week. Triple Burnley 12 points, Sancho can get benched, Kane uninspiring. I think the only good players are Son, Mahrez, Sterling, Broja, Cancelo, KWP. And one of those City players will be subject to Pep roulette.

    a. bruno broja 3-4-3

I’m never going there again. When fully fit he isn’t a good option.
