The five Premier League managers whose teams are in action on Wednesday night – both domestically and in Europe – are holding pre-match press conferences today.

While there’s nothing that we Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers can do about the new information for Gameweek 29, there are still some noteworthy updates to bring to your attention, including the latest quotes on a certain Mohamed Salah (£13.3m).

SALAH ‘READY TO TRAIN’

2pm kick-off team news: 1

Mohamed Salah is due to return to training on Tuesday, after making a swift recovery from the foot problem that forced him off at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Talking to reporters ahead of his team’s trip to Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp said he believes the Egyptian will be ready for the second part of Liverpool’s Gameweek 29 double-header:

“Mo is a tough cookie and he was only a little bit cut, we were quite lucky with it. It was swollen, painful, yesterday a little less swollen, less painful.

Now I got the message before the press conference that Mo is ready to train and we will see how that looks.” – Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah

Meanwhile, Klopp also confirmed that Ibrahima Konate (£5.1m) is fit again after missing the last two matches, but James Milner (£4.9m) and Kostas Tsimikas (£3.7m) are sidelined due to illness.

“Ibou is back. Millie and Kostas, I understand in this moment, are out, and that’s it.”

Following Manchester City’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park on Monday, Liverpool can cut the lead at the top of the table to just one point with a win at the Emirates.

ALONSO & AZPILICUETA ‘READY TO START’

Chelsea v Spurs team news: Alonso, Royal, Reguilon + Moura benched

Ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League second leg tie at Lille, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Marcos Alonso (£5.6m) and Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.6m) are ready to start.

A decision will also be made on Reece James (£6.2m) after today’s training session.

“Marcos Alonso is ready to start, Cesar Azpilicueta is ready to start.

We will try to have them (Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi) later in training but it will be a very tight race. We will take the decision after training.” – Thomas Tuchel

I have been looking at United vs Spurs team ratings and laughed at loud at:

"Ben Davies (CB) - 5/10 - Slips over a lot. Weird."

Wasn't that Son though? Son was literally slipping over all match.

If Ben Davies got 5/10 for slipping a lot what did Son get?

Didn't see the game I'm afraid. I sold Davies for Doherty so I'm happy to see Davies getting a mediocre score, not that Doherty did much better by all accounts!

As long as there's no reaction to the cut and swelling in training today.

Klopp will do anything to have him on the pitch.

Hopefully the swelling etc. won't affect Salah's shooting, which foot or leg was cut?

Good to hear James may be returning to training, hopefully will have a good bit of recovery time over the IB and will be well rested for GW31. Maybe this will finally be a time in the season where I can actually have a good run with a Chelsea wingback

Not worth the risk, won’t make the mistake of rushing him back again so will be heavily rotated imo

FA Cup this weekend where he'll probably be on the bench and get a few minutes at best, followed by an IB where he won't play, he might be worth the risk. We'll see how things look

Chelsea have just asked for Middlesbrough fans to be banned as well in the interest of fairness. Seems a bit harsh in what must be their biggest game for a while

You make it sound like Middlesbrough are like some league two team.

They're in the hunt for promotion this year to the PL.

Not at all, just seems a huge game within touching distance of a trophy. But then I’m a West Ham fan, and it’s been a while since we won one

  7. Nate(U)dog(ie)

I see Chelsea have requested that their FA Cup tie away to Middlesbrough is played "behind closed doors" with no fans out of the interest of "sporting integrity" as they cannot sell their allocation of away tickets, despite the fact that they will finish the season with only their own season ticket holders at Stamford Bridge games and no away fans. I know they didn't ask for this scenario but I highly doubt they'll be willing to play their own games at home behind closed doors until the end of season for the same reasons.

They might have made a rod for their own back, would be amusing if they all ended up behind closed doors

    Doherty
    Saka Kulu Ramsey
    Kane Watkins

Can get 2 more with a hit so 8 playing. Still have 2 FH, WC and BB left.
Would you use a FH on this team?

Which 3 attackers do you think will start for Liverpool vs Arsenal?

I'm actually leaning Mane, Salah, Diaz again. I don't think you bench Diaz after that performance.

I'm inclined to agree. Klopp is fair and seems happy to go with form. Diaz might just have the edge over Jota right now, but things can change. As a Salah captainer, I hope he's fit to start.

If Salah stays at Liverpool, there is a case for selling Firmino and using the money to buy a backup winger.

Front three: Mane - Salah - Diaz
      Back up: Minamino - Jota - ?????

Diaz edges it over Mane for LW. There can be an argument made to play Jota ahead of Mane at CF. I don't think Mane is suited to play CF when I've watched him

No one knows if he's fit enough to start yet. They'll take a look at him in training today. If he's feeling any discomfort i doubt he'll start. But equally he might feel fine and start.

This is Salah we are talking about here. He has missed 2 games through injury throughout his entire playing career. And people think he is going to sit on the bench of a potentially title deciding game after a cut on his foot? 😆

He's still sore so it could be light training today, depends on the swelling how he is able to perform.

I've played with the idea and think Soyuncu is perhaps the safest bet.

I know they've been poor defensively for a lot of this season but, with some players coming back, it looks like they're improving. Two clean sheets from their last three, nice fixtures to come.

The main issues with Maddison - fitness, and questions over his role as Rodgers has tinkered with tactics - dont really show up in a stats comparison. Also hard to compare recent form as Maddison has been in & out the team

In my FH, I will probably have Eriksen over Son, just because I want 7 attackers from 7 different teams --- games are too tricky to call who will win / lose.

Team below looking really thin for BGW, and don't have much cash.

Is fielding 8 for -4 acceptable, and do I have any better move than Dalot and Gordon > Amartey and Ramsey?

    Ramsdale,
    Tierney,
    Raph, Son, Saka
    Kane

(Salah, Gordon, TAA, Rudi, Broja, Cancelo, Dalot, Idah, Foster)

(Repost, wrong thread before - thanks all!)

Not really a fan of those moves. You already have the main picks covered. I would accept the red arrow and maybe sell Dalot only rather than taking a hit

Interesting - thanks guys (was expecting red arrow anyway but thinking 6 was just too thin)

When you factor in the transfer costs, how many points are you gaining with Ramsey and Armatey?

Always a gamble but each move is effectively a -2 (barring a yellow card etc.) Have you considered Eriksen? Only getting better and could be a differential.

Best Leicester defender for the blank GW30? Its for one week only as I am on FH.

In GW30, Leicester has the fourth best chance of a clean sheet, so my fourth defender must be from Leicester. Can't be Schmeichel because my GK must be from the team with highest chance of clean sheet.

Thinking Ricardo Pereira for the attacking returns.

Go safe on Soy. FBs have the upside but difficult to call who will start

Soyuncu is the most nailed. But lack of potential attacking returns. Who are the first choice full backs in the team?

Probably Justin LB and Pereira RB when both are fit. Thomas could play LB though which means Justin and Pereira vying for the RB spot. That's why it's difficult to call. Maybe after the Europa conference game it could become a bit more clear

            Thanks for explaining. Very helpful.

One more Q: Do you think Rodgers will keep the same lineup from the European game in the Brentford game? In other words, how does the European game affects the fullback positions for the Brentford game?

Again it's difficult. When you compare the teams that started in the Rennes and Arsenal game, BR rested a few keys players in the Arsenal game. BR could priorities Europa over the league.

Thomas has played a lot of mins at LB in recent games.

                Hmm, thanks mate..

Looks like Leicester defense is a very bad idea. But, I am forced to buy one of them. At least, this week I will have no shortage of funds to keep a solid bench.

On FH, I think your instinct is right, go for the most attacking FB. Think this is probably Pereira but will have to monitor Thurs night lineup

    Sa
    Cash
    Son Coutinho Raph Saka
    Jimi

(Foster TAA Robbo Livra Salah Dennis Broja)

    2 FH and WC left

    A. Salah + Dennis > Kane + Barnes (-4); then take another (-4) in GW 31 to get Salah back (for Son - not ideal) and downgrade Jimi (probably to Cucho or Gelhardt)
    B. FH
    C. Salah > Barnes; then Raph/Barnes/Cout > Salah in GW 31

One FH earmarked for GW 36. I guess the question is whether there's enough upside to FH in 33 (or another GW) to overcome (1) the (-8) over 2 weeks in A and (2) the missed points from failing to add 2 defenders in 30. Probably means FH 33 would have to beat FH 30 by ~12 pts (more if a defender gets anything in GW 30).

Maybe FH GW 30 is the way to go given my team?

(sorry for rambing nature of post)

I'm doing A to field 9, but with a cheaper mid so I can get Salah back for free in GW31.

Cheers. I guess I could also WC in 31 and avoid the second hit (whilst improving personnel at other positions). Then the later FH would only need to beat 4 pts + whatever 2 add'l defenders might get this week (not expecting much there).

For me, A was an option but I went for the FH. Most big teams play in 33 and my team will have 3 Liverpool, 3 Man City, 2 Arsenal, Chelsea def... which should be good for GW33.

Thanks, mate. Good points. It's going to be close between FH 30 and A with WC 31 for me. Will continue to noodle.
