Everton v Newcastle team news: Pickford ill, Calvert-Lewin benched

The 13th and final match of Double Gameweek 29 takes place this evening and it’s unlucky for owners of Jordan Pickford, who is absent from the Everton squad for the match against Newcastle United.

Kick-off at Goodison Park is at 19:45 GMT.

Pickford and loanee Donny van de Beek both miss out because of illness, with local media suggesting the goalkeeper’s absence is Covid-related.

Those two are among four players who drop out of the Everton starting XI, with Vitalii Mykolenko benched and Jonjoe Kenny banned.

In come Asmir Begovic, Michael Keane, Alex Iwobi and Allan.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is only fit enough for bench duty after illness.

Ryan Fraser, Emil Krafth, Joelinton and Joe Willock all return to the Newcastle starting XI as Eddie Howe also makes four changes.

Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo drop to the bench, where they are again joined by Allan Saint-Maximin.

    Listening to another podcast (too much time on my hands)from so called experts selling their wares and you realise just how little knowledge they have outside the big teams. This becomes very apparent when they talk about the team you support and follow week by week and realise they are talking in absolute annectdotal cliches ( sorry, but true, and am being polite). If you put yourself up as experts then please act as such.

    And they come over so opinionated. Do your own homework re stats and eye test, follow simple principles re chips and play your own game.

      I get your point, but I am not aware of any who call them self "experts" ...........certainly many people label them as experts. However there are some extremely good content creators and some very very bad ones..............

    What to do for GW 30?

    a) Save transfer and go with 6 players

    b) Use final FH this week

    c) James and King ----> Jimenez and White -4 (gives me 8 players)

    Which is better, 30 points above average/safety score in a high scoring week, or 30 points above average in a low scoring week?

    I.e
    110 points in an 80 ave.
    Or 60 points in a 30 ave.

    Net advantage 30 points.

          I don't think that makes FH30 more appealing if that's your argument.

          The big downside of this week is the lack of games. 4 fairly close-ish games with no standout fixtures. It means there's not that much upside to be had and the only way you get a massive green is by gambling on a winner in each game.

          If you split your team up like get Raphinha and Wolves defense you can't score really big.

          The ceiling is fairly capped so getting 30 points above safety score is unlikely.

            the argument is that it's much harder to hit the higher scores in a tighter range.

            There will be points to be had, but there's still margins there.

            Even if 5 rather than 20 players haul.
