Suspensions

Which FPL players are nearing a two-match ban?

Our Suspension Tightrope article takes a look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are nearing a two-match ban for the accumulation of 10 yellow cards.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF A PLAYER GETS 10 YELLOW CARDS?

Dennis sent off as Watford collapse in FPL Double Gameweek 23 opener 2

Any Fantasy asset who collects 10 cautions in the Premier League before their team has completed 32 fixtures will serve a two-match ban in the same competition.

Beyond that point, the threshold moves up from 10 to 15 bookings. Anyone reaching that tally will be banned for three matches.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

PLAYERS ON 8/9 YELLOW CARDS

There isn’t a great deal to worry most Fantasy managers just yet, as all of the above players bar Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) have ownerships of under 10% in FPL.

Ruben Neves (£5.3m) and Junior Firpo (£4.7m) are two of the three players on nine cautions although are both currently flagged with injury anyway.

Tyrone Mings (£5.0m) joined them on the precipice in Gameweek 30 and has matches against Wolves and Spurs to negotiate before he is on safe ground.

Matthew Cash (£5.3m), the second-most-bought defender of the previous Gameweek, is among the cluster of FPL assets who are two cautions away from the unwanted target.

Bench fodder options like Josh Brownhill (£4.3m), Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£4.4m) are also part of this group on eight bookings, along with Crystal Palace’s Gallagher.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to 15 after a team’s 32nd league fixture.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Gameweek 32, however. In fact, for many clubs, this will mean Gameweek 33 or later due to the backlog of postponed fixtures:

Better option for the next 3 only?

    A) Sancho (LEI, eve, NOR+liv)
    B) Havertz (BRE, sou, ARS)

Chelsea’s games with Madrid & FA Cup Semi sandwiched between GW31-33 worries me about rotation for Havertz.

If I get Sancho now can captain him for DGW33 while keeping Salah & Kane.

When you put it like this, with Havertz likely to sit out Southampton at least, its probably 3 good fixtures vs just 1, so Sancho. But I might still end up getting both of them, we'll see

Problem with Havertz is I’m most likely booking in a transfer also. There will be a temptation to sell him for Sancho/Lei mid in GW33.

Afternoon all, how are we feeling about FH in GW33? I am less excited now all the big teams have gone through in the cup and therefore won't have a double. Now we are looking at the likes of Leicester, Newcastle, Southampton, Burnley etc

I'm planning to WC in 35 and BB in 36 so not sure when else I would use it...

I can also ignore both and get Robertson. Which would mean I pick Martinelli over Barnes. Basically this:

My current team is okay and does not need huge changes. I still have my Wildcard, Free Hit (1 x) and Bench Boost chips.

Is there a general rule on when to use it? Such a template?

Lots of different strategies in play.

      WC now, FH33, BB36 or 37
      WC now, BB33, FH36 or 37
      FH33, WC34 or 35, BB36 or 37
      WC 34 or 35, FH36, BB37
      WC 34 or 35, BB36, FH37

The last one is my personal favorite, I'm not keen on the doubles in GW33, and WC in 34 or 35 should allow me to BB in GW36 which is expected to be the big double, without having to worry about GW37 which is likely to have enough double to field a full 11 of DGWers on FH if I wish.

    A) use transfers to get players for dgw33 and bench boost that week.

Well you have 4 players blanking in 33, many of them cheap & not easily replaced, plus an injured Ramsdale, so BB33 seems like a lot of work at the moment

    I don't have Kane, but I have 3 Spurs.

Worth taking a -12 to move things around to bring him in? There's no easy route and feels like going without him for the rest of the season is going to be a killer.

Yeah it's Son, Kulu and Doherty.

I'd lose Kulu probably as part of the shake up. I could also wait one week and do it for a slightly more palatable -8, Kane could easily get 4 more points than whoever else I start upfront (Laca, Weg).

    I can get to A in BB33 and B in 36.

Maybe a slight preference for cheap doublers in general but of these two specific examples I think I like A. One of Fofana's games is Chelsea (A), right? Cant remember Everton/Watford projected doubles though - maybe would help if you put the fixtures in for 36..?

      A.

I certainly wouldn't try to force 14 or 15 doublers.

It's the 4 subs that count. The only fall back is lesser players have 2 games to return, if they feature in both.

With Coronavirus around that's less likely as we keep seeing each week.

DCL or Richarlison with DGW31 in mind ?
I can just afford DCL right now

No other options? Don't like either of them

I've got 2FHs and BB left.
With my planned transfers, I could go for something like this in 33. Could also do Salah to Bruno for one week.

    Would you BB or FH?

    Pope* Sanchez*
    TAA Robbo Tierney* James Doherty
    Salah Saka* Martinelli* Maddison* Elanga*
    Kane Weghorst* Broja*

Don’t get sucked in to losing Salah just because he has one game…

True. Elana might be enough. Reckon that is a BB or a FH?

That's 3 free transfers between now and 33

I can, just can't get my head around what games will be going on, and what my bench will look like! Cheers

I got rid of my BB for 10 points and I’m actually relieved to get rid

Though having said that you have 2 FHs left, and you can't use FH in both 36 and 37.

If the Free Hit isn't needed in a big blank and it's also not needed in a dgw and a bgw33, then when is a FH a decent option to use?

Double vision i reckon is the answer...

There's no week where it's "needed". You use it in the week that makes most sense for you.

Most of people's sense that it's "needed" in DGW33 is driven by FOMO, thinking that everyone else will use it then, and it'll be a disaster if they don't.

I'm prepared for a red arrow in 33. I've used my FHs and banked the points I'm going to get out of them.

I think it's the opposite, people want to play FH into big doubles.

So people want to maximise, not FOMO,.as the main motivation on here at least.

Whereas FH can be a very effective bridge where multiple changes to squads can pay off to navigate blanks.

People still think of the value of a chip as in 100 points plus. Really it's impact is the net additional above the average score.
