This afternoon saw another three player prices released by the official Fantasy Premier League (FPL) twitter stream. Southampton’s Rickie Lambert has been valued a little more than we anticipated, Kevin Nolan seems a decent mid-price option, while the news on Michel Vorm was – after last season’s heroics – as we feared:

Michel Vorm is no longer a cut-price option for our consideration. The Swansea stopper started the previous campaign at a mere 4.0 and racked up an incredible 158 points, thanks to 15 clean sheets and 143 saves – second only to City’s Joe Hart in the goalkeeper standings. As a result, he is now valued at 5.5 in FPL for the season ahead, with his appeal now substantially diminished. Such a valuation is surely set to see his popularity plummet; the Dutchman finished last season with over 33% ownership but the vast majority of Fantasy managers will now be looking for other alternatives between the sticks as we go about balancing budgets. Bearing in mind that Brendan Rodgers has now departed the Liberty Stadium, there’s no guarantee that Vorm will mirror those returns under new boss Michael Laudrup – the price is also a likely reflection of how FPL perceive the Swans’ defensive assets next term, forcing us to look elsewhere for our cheap keeper rotation and cut-price backline options. Sky Sports have been a little kinder; Vorm comes in at 5.2 and is the ninth most expensive option between the posts, with the first-choice goalkeepers for last season’s top eight sides all priced higher.

Kevin Nolan comes in at 6.0 this term – the same price as QPR new boy Ji-Sung Park and just 0.5 less than Stoke’s Jonathan Walters, though the latter’s classification is yet unknown. Certainly, Nolan should be listed as a midfielder in the FPL game and brings a history of strong Premier League returns with him; the Hammers captain has notched double figures in each of his previous two campaigns in the top-flight, with 17 and 12 goals in 2009/10 and 2010/11 respectively – a decent mid-price offering, then. Nolan’s price makes Mark Noble’s all the more intriguing in the Hammers midfield now; the latter’s spot-kicks and majority of set-pieces saw him have a hand in 18 goals last term (eight goals and 10 assists), the same number as Nolan (13 and five respectively) and, if he comes in cheaper, could interest plenty Fantasy managers, bearing in mind the Hammers’ strong start. The Sky Sports game have Nolan down as the pricier of the two; he comes in at 4.9 to Noble’s 4.7.

Rickie Lambert has also been slapped with a 6.0 price tag by FPL after his exploits in the npower Championship produced 27 goals and 14 assists for the Southampton forward last season. Despite such statistics, it’s perhaps a little surprising, bearing in mind that Grant Holt and Heidar Helguson were the costliest frontmen from the promoted sides at the start of 2011/12 at a cost of 5.5, while Swansea’s Danny Graham came in at just 5.0. Many had earmarked Lambert as a potential cut-price option up front, with his spot-kick duties furthering his appeal but, dependant on other players’ valuations, this could cause us to have a re-think. It’s a full 1.0 dearer than Reading’s Pavel Pogrebnyak, for example, and, while the Saints outscored the Royal by 85 goals to 69 last season, Brian McDermott’s investment in top-flight experience could boost the Russian’s appeal. Lambert’s valuation may now have us assessing Adam Lallana instead – the winger produced 11 goals and 10 assists in the previous campaign and could pick up plenty of investment if he comes in cheaper in the midfield area. Looking at the Sky Sports game, Lambert is substantially dearer than Lallana, by 6.8 to 4.9.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Reading through previous posts regarding united starting line up. Do you really think Evans is nailed on to start along side vidic.? I doubt it. He had a good few months towards end of last season. Still think rio and vidic the best pairing. Thoughts?

peronally, it has to be vidic and ferdinand, evans was quality last season, but so was ferdinand. Ferdinand and vidic were the best CB partnership before injuries so

      De Gea
      Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
      Valencia Carrick Kagawa Young
      Rooney
      Welbeck

or scholes instead of welbeck with kagawa moved forward

tough one. I think SAF will prefer young
          If i was united manager

i would play front six of:

          Carrick Kagawa
          Valencia Young Nani
          Rooney

in 4231 - but i don't think sir alex would try that one 😉

Yeah, yeah, yeah. They've said that about Arsenal for almost a decade now.

Fact is: Wenger knows how to win and finish. Spurs couldn't score in a cathouse and can't finish a season. They have no belief or experience.

Exactly, it's happened time and time again. I remember when Fabregas and Nasri both left, Arsenal were finished then but still managed to finish third. They won't win anything but it would be incredibly surprising to see them fall out of the top 4.

Fair value I think, hope lallana is 5.5 or less. To be honest when sharp got in the side regularly for the run in at the end of last season Lambert played more as a no10 in a withdrawn role just off of sharp so watch out for that because whoever emerges as our main strike partner for him could be the real value and an absolute steal, jrod or lee at 5m or less could be great value as I still fancy us to score a lot of goals but concede a lot too.

You understand that this story is analogous to nothing, right?

And that the term isn't racist - especially when made by another black man, right?

This is just the resultant feeding frenzy from/by the media. And, classically, it bears all the hallmarks of the victim(s) being made the villains.

I'm not qualified to comment on that but what's done is done and we should move on.

One positive side to the whole affair is that any hint of racism on the pitch will now be stamped on big time. I can't see any professional player remotely suggesting anything that could be construed as racist now, which has to be good.

So, where do you guys think Man Utd lost the PL last season? Or, just that Man City won it? Personally, it's between Vidic injury, the Everton disaster, or resting Valencia v City.

To start a firestorm, Utd didn't lose the PL, they tied it. City were awarded the title on goal difference.

And letting Everton score four, at home, was the moment.

Vidic this Vidic that. It's really annoying. City could say the same about Tevez.

How could a team with such experience lose a 8 point lead in the closing weeks of a title race?

Evra was really the only starter in that list over the whole season. 4 of their back 5 were being rotated due to injury over the whole year.

It's not an excuse, it's a reason. Defenses can't chop and change and still play to the highest level.

Failing to finish off the lower teams 4-0/5-0 and holding on for a 1-0.

And the concentration levels sinking in the latter stages of games and conceding silly goals, like at home to Everton.

City can look at the late Sunderland and Arsenal goals.

Hernandez = No build up play.
Welbeck = Limited and overhyped because he's English but a great worker.
Berba = Stars every game in a season for United will get 25 goals.

          Just my opinion.

Hernandez = clinical poacher a la Van Nistlerooy but with a young Owen's speed.
Welbeck = large and able to come back and work the build up - not afraid of a little defense, as well.
Berbs = might score 25 ... but that would amount to hat-tricks against the weakest teams as he's a flat-track bully. The better defenses will always be able to - on Utd, at least - cancel him out.He spends the season looking glum and walking about.

I'm honestly not knocking the other two, as you have made good points.
But if I was a United fan I'd rather have Berba in the team.
Remember his hat trick against Liverpool? his winner off the bench against Bolton. I really do think he was worth his place in the team this year, and if he'd been playing they would have won the league, at least on goal difference.
Maybe I'm wrong, it's just how I see it.

Fair enough, I'm not trying to start a squabble ... I just don't think Berbs matches with Utd's counter-attack, wing-fueled, kinetic style.

On Arse he'd be a monster. I quite like him - and he has class and grace. I just think there was a reason he was 4th choice.

If you've played the 1st two Mass Effect games then it might be worth playing the third as well - just to see how it all ends.

I'm looking at the safest fpl team possible at the start. I got hurt last year by rooney aguero silva young. It took me ages to catch up in my mini league. I can always transfer in any bargains when they become apparent ..any thoughts??

I'd say the conservative/'smart' tactic is to do as you say; Start off with the Blue Chip players with one or two punts that sit on your bench. After the first couple of GWs, the performers will become obvious.

I agree taking a chance on a player like kagawa is a no go for me i would rather have bale/dempsey/valencia.

Rooney AND Kun will be the first two names in my team, regardless of price.
