We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Liverpool v Manchester United in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-improving website (which now has a new look!), and our own Premium Members Area.

SALAH BACK AMONGST THE GOALS

Liverpool ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at Anfield on Tuesday, with Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) the main tormentor.

The Egyptian claimed a hat-trick at Old Trafford back in October, and followed that up with another double-digit haul in Gameweek 33, courtesy of two goals, an assist and maximum bonus.

Prior to tonight, Salah had found the net just once in his previous 12 appearances for club and country, a penalty in a 2-0 win at Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, Jurgen Klopp had insisted earlier in the week he was not concerned about his lack of goals, saying “It’s a completely normal spell. I liked the game against City a lot, so it’s only a question of time when he scores as well. The form will definitely come.”

And the underlying numbers certainly backed that up, as despite not scoring from open-play since Gameweek 26, his shot volume had remained good.

Meanwhile, the assist for Salah’s first strike was supplied by Sadio Mane (£11.7m), who has now produced eight attacking returns (six goals, two assists) in as many appearances, which has coincided with a move to a more central role.

The forward has experienced a packed schedule this season because of his involvement in Senegal’s triumphant Africa Cup of Nations campaign, plus he helped his country qualify for the World Cup in Qatar via the play-offs, but now appears to be hitting top form, something Klopp touched on this week.

“Sadio (Mane) had some physical struggles since he came back. Sadio couldn’t feel it, but we could see it and he could not use his immense physicality, week in, week out. I already felt before the game against City: ‘OK, that looks like Sadio, physically.’ And that’s why we could play the game we played.” – Jurgen Klopp on Sadio Mane

Above: Sadio Mane’s touch heatmap v Man Utd in Gameweek 33

After tonight’s victory, Liverpool have now won 11 consecutive top-flight home games and are unbeaten in the league at Anfield all season.

UNITED’S CHANGE OF SHAPE

Phil Jones (£4.5m) was surprisingly handed a rare start at Anfield, as Ralf Rangnick sprung a surprise with his line-up and opted for a 3-4-1-2 shape.

However, it failed to have the desired effect, as United lacked any kind of threat going forward (they failed to register a shot in the first-half) and were carved open a number of times, particularly down their left.

Jadon Sancho’s (£8.9m) half-time introduction signalled the end of the experiment as they shifted to a back-four set-up, but familiar failings soon surfaced despite an initial lift.

“We have another game coming up on Saturday, I decided to give him a rest today. He might come off the bench but he’s certainly a player to consider for Saturday again.” – Ralf Rangnick on Jadon Sancho

Following tonight’s loss, United have now remarkably conceded more Premier League goals this season than 18th-placed Burnley, and have kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 away games in all competitions.

Rangnick cut a dejected figure on the sidelines after another insipid and disorganised display, and it’ll be a real challenge to pick up his troops ahead of their ‘double’ in Gameweek 34, which sees them travel to Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime before hosting Chelsea in midweek.

And if anything, recent defensive displays will offer real encouragement to Bukayo Saka (£6.8m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£5.3m) owners, plus those eyeing up Mason Mount (£7.6m), Kai Havertz (£7.9m) and Timo Werner (£8.6m).

“I don’t think a different formation at the start would have changed anything. The first goal we conceded, it was not part of the game plan to be that high up and concede a counter-attack after five minutes. That changed the game. The first half, we were just not good enough. We did not win any first ball or second balls. We were second best in all relevant areas. Second half we changed a centre-back with Jadon Sancho. The first 25 minutes we were better and had pressure on the ball at times. Had two or three moments, but the third goal killed the game off.

For the third goal it came from a ball we should not play. A pressing invitation – 12 yards into Anthony Elanga, who is a player for behind their back line. It is inviting them for those moments and six seconds later the ball was in our net.

It is embarrassing, it is disappointing, maybe even humiliating. We have to accept they are six years ahead of us now. When Jurgen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows.” – Ralf Rangnick

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho (Milner 86), Henderson, Thiago (Keita 80), Salah, Diaz (Jota 70), Mane

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Lindelof, Jones (Sancho 45), Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Pogba (Lingard 10), Matic, Dalot, Fernandes, Elanga (Hannibal 84), Rashford

I did the opposite, all week torn between the two. Potter has Brighton very well organised and defensively sound, was sure there would be no repeat of the 5-1 slaughter of Newcastle. United being in disarray and Salah still creating chances,he was sure to notch at some stage,so fortunately switched back to him last minute.

Memo: Cechs and Balances Football Club; Gunneryank, managing director of football operations.

    Re: Mssrs Son and Salah.

Gentlemen, good day. Well done on your recent great success for our football club. I must confess, the haphazard way in which you decided the captaincy was a bit flippant, but it seems the manager backed you and the results speak for themselves. Surely our luck won't hold?

At any rate, thank you both, and wishing you continued success.

    Sincerely, your boss.

All good, other than dealing with a shoulder issue (most likely adhesive capsulitis) for several months now. Been doing PT and finally getting an MRI tomorrow. If it really is adhesive capsulitis it isn’t doing any long-term constructive damage- just painful, sleep-impacting, and reduced range of motion. In almost all cases it goes away, albeit in 18-24 months

Other than that I can’t complain. Leading all my MLs (in the two I really care about I am up 70 in one & up 215 in the other) and at 46k OR

Well done for being 70k ahead of me, ya jerk.

Wow that sucks. Is that degenerative or caused by a specific event that introduced your shoulder to trauma?

            1. NorCal Villan
              • 3 Years
              3 years, 7 months ago

It can be both but I have had no trauma so most likely brought on by a life if not being as flexible as I should slowly but surely leading to inflammation. It’s a drag but could be way worse. Trying to treat this as an opportunity/message to do better. I am 56 and in pretty good shape but reached a point where I am gonna have to actually need to work at being healthy. Never been never disciplined and that has to change

You'd have to lose Kane or Son for City defence I'd imagine. Might as well just try and move Son to KDB in that case.

Cancelo is the best option, but Laporte good value.

Depends how fixed you are with double spurs?
I wouldn't overreact to one bad game from them but you could do
Risky moves but could you do Doherty to Laporte, Weg to Mateta, Son to Mount with plenty of cash for next week
      Then bench Broja 442

I've only just bought Son back in which is influencing me somewhat...

yeh tricky. Don't think Son out for -8 is ever a good idea

Barnes to Mount should work out fine.
Do you expect Kdb to play all PL games? Real Madrid games are after WAT before Leeds, hmm
Having a cheap 3rd striker is fine but then you're stuck with Broja

nope... and yes he is a rotation risk...

if Walker is fit then I could do Doherty Barnes Weghorst >> Walker Mount 4.7... its an option I guess

or I go without city defence this week and next week do Doherty >> Laporte (-4) by freeing up funds elsewhere

or I just run the gauntlet and go without until FH37

Saka + Martinelli both out for Mount + Dewsbury and then a sneaky Broja to Dennis move next week could be on the table too.

Well, in theory yes but I'm playing BB in 36 so not many downgrade options.
Also when I wc'd in 31 I decided to swap Trent for Robbo so happy keeping. Can't really justify paying the 1m extra for cancelo either

    2. ZimZalabim

you could leave cucho for now and take saka and kulu out to get mount in plus martinelli or elanga or gordon to get 1 or 2 more dgw players this week and might have some funds left to do cucho to dennis maybe next week or in 36.

If you dont want a shake up then cucho to mateta and rolling is a safe option.

Thanks mate. Food for thought on Kulu to Gordon for the double

move would be more for getting Mount in this week and free up some budget for the cucho replacement.

you could also look at saka and white out for alonso or james if u can afford him plus one of the mids i mentioned above

Have been on the wrong side of James this season. Plus already own 2 chelsea so only room for one more.
I feel white double in 36 not so great now, will reassess

Those who sold Salah, are you bringing him back in now?

I'm torn, I have the money to do Bruno to Salah but that will leave me with two doublers for next gameweek.
With the money I can also do Kulu to Mount/Havertz and have 4 doublers with Bruno, James and Rudiger.

      Would you bring him back?

I sold for KDB last week and will stick until the end of the season. But that being said it's easier for me with 2 FHs left to cover myself if needed

Tempting, but will wait a bit until all games finish this GW before going on a further knee jerk.. lol (with one eye on price changes)

I have said this many times before and will keep saying it:

A running clock/ticker showing time until (daily) price change at the top of every page would be extremely helpful

I like setting it and then forgetting it. Even if they had a clock here, I'd still set my alarm to remind me to look at it.

BB 36 and FH37 is the plan as it stands.

so gordon is on the bench in a 5-4-1/4-4-2 and will be part of the BB in 36.

only alternative is KDH unless I downgrade a defender

A seems like there's no in between. Could go huge or just backfire big time
B I prefer and good option for BB

Can you assist with mine above. Also going BB36 FH37

I feel like I should go for A at this point and hope to make up some points im almost 50 behind in my main mini league after leading it till a woeful Jan and havent managed to claw back any points as such. Feel its now or never to close the gap. The problem is that I have to go for 6-7 players that everyone will have so looking for where I can try to be different.

replied to ur post above dunno how much of a help that is tho
