FPL Daily: Firmino injury update

We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a series that services weekdays where there is no press conference round-up or Premier League match.

KLOPP ON FIRMINO

Salah’s return, Leicester’s set-piece issues and Martinelli’s ban: FPL notes 4

Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) is likely to miss the first-leg of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final with Villarreal, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed. The Brazilian is set to remain sidelined with the foot injury that has kept him out of the Reds’ last two Premier League fixtures.

However, there are no other fresh fitness concerns following Sunday’s Merseyside derby win over Everton.

Offering an update ahead of Wednesday’s encounter at Anfield, Klopp said:

“I don’t think (he is ready) yet. He is running outside and that’s good, obviously, but I am not sure. Maybe somebody will surprise me afterwards and tell me, ‘Yes, Bobby is in.’ (I will have) open arms, but I don’t think so. Apart from that, no (new injuries) that I know yet.” – Jurgen Klopp

JAMES/RUDIGER BACK IN TRAINING

The best FPL defenders for a Gameweek 28 Wildcard 2

Reece James (£6.4m) and Antonio Rudiger (£6.1m) have both been spotted in training, offering encouragement that they could yet still be involved in Double Gameweek 34.

James was a surprise absentee against West Ham on Sunday, with Thomas Tuchel saying that he had felt some discomfort in his hamstrings, while Rudiger has missed Chelsea’s last two fixtures with a groin injury.

LIVRAMENTO OUT UNTIL 2023

Armstrong ends goal drought as Livramento keeps up fine FPL form 1

According to reports, Tino Livramento (£4.3m) is set to miss the rest of 2022 after scans revealed he has an ACL injury which will require surgery.

The 19-year-old was stretchered off and required oxygen after picking up the injury against Brighton and Hove Albion in Gameweek 34, an incident which has seemingly brought his excellent debut season in senior football to a premature end.

What a game! 4-3 at Etihad is a decent result. Not disappointed for sure coz could’ve been a worse score line.
Bring on the 2nd leg at the Bernebeu! I’m sure Real will play way better with Casemiro back and the huge Bernebeu crowd being their 12th man. I feel Real can overturn this deficit and make it through to the finals. Hala Madrid! Vamanos!

City also get Cancelo back though. I think City are very favored but Madrid have some magic about them which should make it a very good game.

I was hoping City would bury them a bit so they could play a stronger team vs Leeds and perhaps not have to go all guns blazing in Madrid.

If there was ever a doubt that Real's name is on the cup it was silenced with Mahrez hitting the post and the rebounded shot being cleared off the line. Some supernatural entity steering them to be European champions.

Madrid the luckiest team I've seen for a while...
Madrid score a toe poke in off the post, gain a fortunate penalty...multiple easy chances missed by City.

Yeah know what you mean, he only scored because the keeper decided to dive.

Then again I’ve always been for keepers to stay rooted until the ball is struck, I’m convinced more penalties would be saved if they did, plus Jorginho/Bruno run ups would be useless.

I’ve noticed something different with Pep’s treatment of Jesus, I think he’s a similar level to what Aguero’s nailedness was, but without another out and out striker to compete with like he did with Jesus

His starts and minutes have been sporadic since GW16, not sure what pattern you can possibly be on about - unless your basing your finding purely on the last 2-3 fixtures?

              • 7 Years

Back then he had players like Silva in good scoring form plus still giving Grealish lots of settling in time - I think now he realised how important it is to have that goalscorer in there

I'm not saying Jesus won't start this weekend but so think your comment on a 'pattern' is a load of rubbish. There hasn't been enough time to measure a proper patter that fits what you're saying.

Just your opinion because you're buying him.

He scored 4 goals this weekend. Of course you'll want to play a forward with high confidence in the upcoming UCL matches & season run-in.

Not nailed because he can play a right stinker, but he's the most natural LB replacement for Tierney who is out injured.

Xhaka has played LB but he's needed in midfield. Last match showed that; he played alright.

Perhaps at risk of rotation if arsenal play wing backs as Martinelli could start there, but not sure that'll be their Plan A given they've won two big games with the latest formation.

If Tomiyasu is back it massively helps out Tavares/Arsenal because it plugs a defensive hole (2 defensively weak fullbacks vs 1 weak one).

Doesn't make a ton of sense to play Cedric LB as he's more of a RB and has been just as poor if mot worse. Tavares at least offers more going forward.

      I think/hope he'll play most now - but he's not nailed.

I brought him in last week as low in funds at the back due to Doherty/Cucho drops - sadly was 3rd on bench!

        Nice Summary

Will it be before GW35 before Havertz/Werner etc will rotate or GW36

Will sell Havertz for Coutinho I think but keep Werner, or is Pulisic now a threat?

I'm not sure I follow the first question, or how the second relates to my question?

Couldn't possibly tell you the Chelsea forwards for United (and therefore Everton).
For United either we go strong again or there is rotation:
Werner > Pulisic; Mount > Ziyech > Havertz > Lukaku.

Would rate Havertz & Werner starts more likely vs. United, partly because of early sub & partly because Mount has been a bit poor the last two. However could be totally wrong.

Assuming James and Saka are fit. (Also BB36, FH37)

    a) Roll
    b) Sterling to Son
    c) James + Sterling to Alonso + KDB (-4)
    d) Other

    Foster
    TAA | Matip | Cancelo | James
    Salah | Sterling | Mount | Saka
    Werner | Nketiah

    Schmeichel | B.Davies | Pukki | KDH +0.6m

    Maddison owners watcha doing?

Best to sell and be done with Leicester assets given crazy schedule or just bench him this week for Matip and hope he starts both/gets major minutes for BB36?

Do you think Sterling is more likely to play vs Leeds given he didn't start tonight? I sold Kane for him last week and probably wise to just hold rather than switching back...?

    I'm replacing Che Adams (finally).

Who do you reckon would be a good replacement for the last few weeks (probably FH in gw37).

    A. Nketiah (risk of Lacazette?)
    B. Dennis
    C. Weghorst
    D. Pukki

Yeah, with lacazette lurking that's probably true, but Nketiah higher upside...

        It's a coin toss, innit
