FPL Hall of Fame: Analysing the world’s best Fantasy managers

Our Hall of Fame was given a refresh at the end of 2021/22, allowing us to see how the list of best-performing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have been affected by last season’s points.

For the uninitiated, the Hall of Fame is a ranking system applied to everyone who takes part in either of our FPL leagues. Managers’ past and present performances are then tracked to give a Hall of Fame (HoF) rating.

The Live version of our Hall of Fame can only be viewed by Premium Members but everyone can access the Career Hall of Fame by clicking here.

Further information on the Hall of Fame is included at the bottom of this article, but alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark Sutherns and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson discuss the feature.

Following our overview of the top 10 FPL managers, we now turn our attention to how they performed in 2021/22, from chip strategy to captaincy.

HALL OF FAME FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2021/22 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2007/08. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow rookies to rank alongside the veterans of FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame?
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout league or, if you’re a member, the Fantasy Football Scout Members’ league – the code for the latter will be available on the dashboard of the Members’ Area after launch.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL ID.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the relevant Fantasy Football Scout FPL league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version, accessible only to Members, is updated sporadically throughout the season to reflect the scores of the current campaign.

I'm actually angry. We were a good side and now we've lost all the momentum from the World Cup and Euros because we rotated too much imo. We have the basis of a good side - Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Trippier, Henderson, Rice, Sterling, Mount, Foden, Grealish, Rashford, Sancho, James, Kane - granted not all in form but individual players who can change matches - but no we play Calvin Phillips who is rubbish imo and made countless mistakes in this game, Saka who is too inconsistent, buildup is as boring as hell, where has all our adventure gone.
The warning signs were there in the first game vs Hungary and we continued to rotate with players who are simply not good enough at this level
Now we are back to square one, no confidence and slow slow slow

The problem with England has always been them hiring the most mediocre and uninspiring managers ever. The players are fine as seen when they play for their clubs.

I’d argue that we’ve never been any good. In the World Cup and the Euros we had a lucky “easier” run to the final, avoiding the bigger/better teams (the worst Germany side you’ve seen in years aside), and as soon as we come up against anybody half-decent - we lose.
      It’s papered over the cracks.

I personally find the way that England set up and play to be pretty shameful and embarrassing. They set up to NOT LOSE games rather than to WIN them. They set up like they believe that the opposition is better than they are. Oftentimes the quality of players that England have at their disposal vs. the opponents is the international equivalent of Manchester City vs. Burnley, and yet from the way they set out to play, you’d be forgiven for believing that it’s the other way around.
It’s just not entertaining, watching these players set up to try to win a game 1-0 from a header from a corner, a Harry Kane penalty, or an own goal.

      Boring.

Bit harsh on our last two runs, but we are quite boring on an international level. And I think that extends to pretty much every sport we turn up for, be it football, athletics or cricket. We just look entitled and boring.

All I want is to see England have a bloody go and try to dominate games, score goals from open play (preferably lots of them) - we certainly have the players for it.

Just watched the England game. As an England fan i actually quite enjoyed the spectacle. I totally respect Southgate as a man and the way he has instilled a team ethic into England should be applauded. I will be enternally grateful for the way he removed the toxicity of Sven, Capello etc. In fact, i would even say without him we would never have reached the semi final and final of the last 2 major tournaments. However, having got the that stage, he simply got found out. With a different manager in those games we would have won the Euro and at least got the to the final of the Worlds. He is tactically not the right man and it is sad, but also pleasing on some level, that White Van Man (who thought he was the best because we beat Sweden!) booed him at Molineaux. He didn't deserve that on any level, but neither did he deserve the praise for beating teams ranked lower and then capitulating when it really mattered. Cheers Gareth but we need to move on, and utilise the qualities we have as a talented young team.

Can someone please explain to me how the top managers (outlined above) score so many points with teams playing 2 or 3 forwards.... as the points per million are lower for forwards than for mids and defenders?

Are the forwards getting the points though? The screenshot above for Fabio shows he got some good streaks at times from his forwards.

This. At this time of year it's easy to get too reductive and polarise one formation as the best or judge players on total pts. You don't keep the same players or same formation the whole season, it's all about having the right players at the right time throughout the season.

Is Alisson worth a Liverpool spot?
I played mostly one Liverpool wing-back with Salah last season but sometimes added Jota.

I don't see being able to afford Salah, TAA and Robertson all at once. Of course new arrivals may push for an added Liverpool attacking option which would be blocked with Alisson in goal.

    1. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years

The downsides of owning Alisson or Ederson is that it takes up a 3rd spot. If you strongly feel that you'll never own 2 outfield players from either club, it's a great pick. There maybe another keeper who will offer better value over the season, but at this stage you don't know who it will be (a next season's Pope or Ramsdale I mean) whereas with the top 2 you have security.

      1. Sheffield Wednesday

I'll definitely own two Liverpool outfielders even if Alisson in goal.

Yes, but it limits your options if you want to bring in another Liverpool outfielder.

Agreed triple-ups hamstring flexibility. It's why I usually stuck with two each from Liverpool/MCI most of the time.

Increased substitutes rule has me thinking a good goalkeeper may be even more desirable this season. Wing backs may get fewer minutes restricting their attacking returns, but conversely increasing their chance of a CS(?)

If you're starting with Salah & Trent, then you're likely priced out of Darwin/Diaz, so maybe Alisson could work. But if Diaz/Darwin are reasonably priced (9 ish), there's more scope for an affordable outfield triple up compared to last year when Jota was the only mid-priced attacker. I'm quite keen on starting with Robertson, Diaz & Darwin myself

No, Alisson is not worth a Pool spot imo.

You want to keep outfield slots flexible among the top teams.

      Cancelo, Haaland
      TAA/Robo, Salah

(one slot left to flex if the fixtures favor them and you can fit in another asset)

Not quite but the Wikipedia on those games vs England in the 50s is a good read. I liked the bit about England players deriding them as having the wrong kit (boots that were cut below the ankle).

I fell asleep at half time and missed most of the fun, but already I was seriously thinking of the '50s. Bear in mind in that decade England also suffered the ignominy of getting knocked out of the World Cup by an amateur American team.

That England defeat last night should be the kick up the arse they need. Clearly the England players are on the beach and these games are sillly at the end of the season.

Southgate is too defensive and needs to start Grealish more. If he has a poor World Cup he’ll be gone but has done a good job.

    Be braver Southgate

The interesting bit is he did this for a promoted team and not one of the traditional powerhouses - albeit they did win the league.
