Draft your 2022/23 FPL team with LiveFPL’s price predictions

Trent Alexander-Arnold at £8.0m, Son Heung-min cheaper than Erling Haaland, and Ivan Perisic a £5.5m defender…

Lots of us have been having a crack at guessing the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) starting prices for the 2022/23 season and LiveFPL are no different.

We’re always happy to champion the fine work of site regular Ragabolly, who provides valuable free tools and information for FPL managers throughout the season.

And his latest project gives Fantasy managers the chance to start drafting their 2022/23 squads with a completely free-to-use team planner, complete with predicted starting prices.

You can select your Gameweek 1 squad and even plan for the weeks and months beyond that.

The price predictions come courtesy of a machine-learning algorithm (along with some manual additions), which harnesses historical FPL data.

Haha I think it’s a bug - when you sell all your 15 it says 177m, so I just built a team taking 77m off

Not sure if you were able to identify or not but here's what happens I think:

Say I have 5 mids I am able to add a 6th mid and then when I sell him the budget increases. I think you need to cap the positions

Wilson is the best at that bracket but see how the others go especially DCL

I've put together a risky triple villa, arsenal, chelsea draft (0.5M in the bank) where the Haaland + Diaz combo could be Salah + 7.5/8.0M structure
    Martinez (4.0M)
    James Gabriel Chilwell
    Cout Mount Ode Diaz Saka
    Watkins Haaland (4.5M)

I always start badly going non-template so worth carrying on in the hope of winning 1 day.

Foden is one of the most nailed midfielders at City. After DeBruyne and Rodri he’s first name on teamsheet. Pep rates him as can be seen by his selection 2nd half of last season

    If Doherty remains first choice:

    Darlow
    Robertson | Cancelo | Chilwell | Doherty
    Salah | Saka | Kulusevski | Eriksen
    Haaland | Solanke

    4.0 | Gelhardt | 4.5 mid | 4.0 def (gem that always appears)

Good shout but I fear second season syndrome with Brentford.

That get removed by the extra goals they concede.

None of the promoted teams look like they’re going to be defensive powerhouses, though, so none of their keepers appeal. Like the Kaptain Kane said,I also fear for Brentford re second season syndrome.

The last two years in a row I’ve gone for a keeper whose side got promoted the previous year and whose points tally was great in their first year in the Prem. Both were an absolute disaster zone the following season.

Yes, but my guess is that Sanchez will now be £5m.

I really doubt that there will be any keepers you’d really feel comfortable playing every week that will come in at £4.5m.

Raya, maybe, but again second season syndrome is a worry.

Meslier, possibly, but based on what we saw from Leeds defence last season….?

                      Maybe, Sanchez didn’t great though.
Leeds we’re a bit better after new appointment so Meslier could indeed be a good option

      Why

    3. lugs
      • 6 Years

not really you just need to accept you can't have them all, i did a nice 442 last night with Son & Salah that i was really happy with, the only major sacrifice was having a 4.5 non entity forward on the bench

  10. Waddlinho
    • 4 Years
    1 year, 9 months ago

Just toying around and going with one 7.5 forward (mostly Wilson or Toney) at the start. 4-5-1, giant at the back.

    Raya, 4.0
    TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Chilwell, Cash
Salah (C), Bowen, Maddison, Rodrigo, Harrison
    Wilson, 4.5, 4.5

    1. Waddlinho
      • 4 Years

      5-4-1...

      1. Waddlinho
        • 4 Years
        1 year, 9 months ago

And if you want "all" the money to the field, 5-4-1 could go like this:
        Raya
        TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Cash, Tierney
        Salah (C), Bowen, Saka, Maddison
        Wilson

        1. Big boy Bowen
          • 7 Years

It looks nice, they always do but problem is 2 x 4.5 strikers never seems to work out

        2. lugs

that looks pretty good tbf, 3 premium defenders, with 2 mid priced ones looks much better for the midfield than 5 premium defenders like in some mock teams i've seen

Agree, and will be even more effective with Darwin on the end of his crosses.
Second premium defender might come down to prices. Ideally Robbo, but maybe VVD or Cancelo, or Laporte if much cheaper.

Any thoughts on this LiveFPL draft? Especially on Caicedo? Like the rotation with him and Drewsbury-Hall. Thought he might be sure starter since Bissouma gone but will he and will he remain at 4.5m?

    Raya
    TAA - Cancelo - Chilwell - James - Perisic
    Salah (C) - Saka - Odegard - Drewsbury-Hall
    Haaland

    Sanchez - Caicedo - Gelhart - Greenwood

Also ready to go with VVD instead of TAA if money comes a problem. Or if Perisic is not a defender then might have Robertson+Son insteas of Perisic+Salah.

Thanks all and have a good evening!

Of course TAA to 4.5m def would let me upgrade to 8-8.5m mid or forward. But again would need someone I'd like. Maybe Mount, Bowen or Maddison...

i was thinking more lose a Chelsea or 2 as they were a bit of a disaster towards the end of last season, no Rudiger too now so that's not going to help, you could be relying on attacking returns mostly from them two which of course they are more than capable of tbf

Thats true but would lead me finding someone from 6-6.5m range mid or forward. Not too many appealing options there, or is there? Until they emerge of course later.

Especially to start every week, considering my week bench.

Maybe a 4.5m def could be founs to rotate with Mitrovic.. will take a look, thanks!

Leeds, Brentford or Newcastle 4.5m defender could actually rotate quite nicely with Mitro.

Of course a bit of a strange tactic.

having Nunez over Salah does wonders for your team if as expected he comes in at about 9 to 9.5

Yes, but we don’t know how he’s going to adapt yet.

I agree with you, but this is why it looks like it’s going to be a challenging FPL season.

Don’t pick Salah and he explodes in the first 5 games and you could be well behind. But, then you might have Haaland instead who also explodes, so you don’t lose out overall.

I don’t think I will have Salah, but until I see the prices and see what kind of team I can have with and without him I can’t say for sure yet.

well going against Salah is always a risk, but it worked out pretty well for me towards the end of last season, Nunez should do well in his own right, also some rumours in this morning papers that is is going to be Salah's last season, so its the end of an era maybe

check out this bad boy, Nunez over Salah

      Dubravka
      Robbo, Cancelo, Matip, Laporte
      Son, Maddison, Zaha, Martinelli
      Nunez, Wilson

      4.0, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5

Preseason is key to see how Nunez goes. People are scared to go without Salah but his form has been terrible this year.

I am siding with Diaz as my Liverpool attacking option.

Wouldn’t have Zaha with his fixtures

Zaha could be Coutinho or some other mid priced guy, but tbh i like the idea of having Zaha for the gw1 Friday night opener, he often raises his game for the big clubs, plus he has pennos

If you're going no Salah I'd expect the saving to mean you're going to have a pretty solid team otherwise but I don't see it here. One premium, no City attacker, no Chelsea, rotation-risk Arsenal mid, injury-prone forward, etc.

fair enough mate we all see things differently, i personally don't have much interest in Chelsea, but that aside its a 100m budget and its almost the same team that i finished last season with 106m budget, Martinelli instead of Saka Nunez/Kane, Wilson/Vardy, and that's pretty much it

i get your point but its not exactly the same, since Nunez you'd think will be the starting cf for the leagues 2nd top scorers, i'd be disappointed if he didn't get at least 15 goals tbh, that likely won't match Salah so i guess it comes down to if you think the extra 3 or 4mil to spend elsewhere is worth it

Yeah I see your point, I just think we've been here before so many times. New player to the league, huge pre season hype and then a slow stuttering start.

To me the price premium is worth it- he's going to score 250+ points and get a tonne of hauls while being captained by a majority of players along the way.

To each their own of course.

very true regarding new players, exception being Salah himself who i got over Mane gw1 in his first year, tbh come gw1 its doubtful i'll have the cajones to start without Salah especially if he looks good in pre season, flip side though if he doesn't look great like he has for most of 2022 then i'm pretty sure i'll go the Nunez route

It’s possible, but likely will mean having to forgo big hitters in other areas.

My guess is the pricing structure will make it so that if you have those 3 you won’t be able to have, say, TAA or Cancelo as well.

      We shall soon see.

I looked at live FPL and am not convinced some of those prices are what is going to be the reality when FPL opens.

I could be wrong, but I’m trying to avoid doing mock teams until I know the prices.

I don’t want to get my mind and heart set on a certain group of players then find out I can’t afford them all once FPL goes live.

This is probably pretty close to template, right?

    Raya

Yeah mostly popular picks, here atm:

      Sanchez
      Robertson | Cancelo | Doherty | Henry
      Salah | Son | Eriksen | Bruno G
      Haaland | Solanke

      4.0 | Gelhardt | 4.5 mid | 4.0 def

Agreed on Doherty, but you never know, they do sometimes underprice, Raphinha last season a good example.
Eriksen could be ESR, who despite not being nailed I think 6.0 is a great price for him, and with his age he’ll only continue to get more minutes hopefully

They may be signing Spence anyway which almost makes him a none option.
At which point I’ll probably go another 4.5 def and use the extra to go Trent over Robertson (if there is extra!)

I really do not understand this love for Odegaard. He's done pretty much nothing from an FPL point of view since he's arrived and he just loves assisting the assister = 0 FPL points. It's a no from me. Really strange pick especially when Saka would only be approx 1m more.

131 points and 11 attacking returns last season which is good for a 5.5. Arsenal fans think he’s nailed on and arsenal have good fixtures.if he comes in at 6-6.5 he’s got to be worth considering, especially if you expect him to improve

    2. Fish up a tree

Fixtures & price are nice & last season he was 2nd to only Bruno for chances created. I think he can only improve on assists & goals & with a more potent striker to feed then he will return more next season for sure

Auto-generating Twitter links sounds a very silly thing to implement to me. Firstly if they are wrong you could get mistaken identity, which could cause trouble for the FFS member and the other innocent party. Secondly, the FFS member may want their Twitter count not to be linked (for a few obvious reasons I can think of).

I think this needs to be reversed and re-thought ASAP

I will use Vardy as an example, a consistent scorer and has been around for a good number of seasons.

Season end / Points / Price next season = ppm
        2021 187 pts / 10.5 = 17.8 ppm
        2020 210 pts / 10.0 = 21.0
        2019 174 pts / 9.0 = 19.3
        2018 183 pts / 9.0 = 20.3
        2017 161 pts / 8.5 = 18.9
        2016 211 pts / 10.0 = 21.1

The average ppm is 19.7, say round up to 20.

So the answer to your question is 20 extra points per million or 10 extra points at half more.

    2. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years

Bit meaningless, but a simple calculation could go like this: 100m to spend. Winner of this years's FPL scored 2844. Divide 2844 by 100 and you get 28.44 points per million. But that doesn't account for captaincy, transfers, TV and the fact that you don't want a squad of averagely-scoring players. The only players who actually exceeded the winner's average were Alisson and Lloris, Matip and Coady, and Bowen. You could base your calculations on the player in the 10K position rather than first for a lower average.

I mean based on the 1st place guys, my rough-and-ready calculation throws up 2 keepers and 3 outfield players. If you want an example of a full squad of great points-per-million players last season, you'll need a more modest total to start with.

It's all nonsense anyway, I'm not investigating any further myself.

I certainly will (think about it)

            Here is a huge example

            TAA 7.5M scores 208 points equalling 24.76/Mil
            Coady 4.5M scores 138 points equalling 29.36/Mil

Now I will still go for TAA if price is right for the consistency factor, but to save 3M on a player means spending it elsewhere and there are at least 20 examples I have already calculated.

I have read so much about Fabio Borges tactics (what little bits of info you can get) and I am sure he uses this technique. Put that together with xG and xA stats, and then being pragmatic about which team will keep more clean sheets, etc, and including saves and bonuses.

I know this is all pie in the sky, but I have being playing BFPL for 14 years, and I always fail after about 20 idd games because I use too much emotion and not enough facts!

This could be the same for all and there are many many players better than I.

But the simple paragraph you wrote has had profound effects on my logic and reasoning.

I could drivel on, but won't as we still have 8 weeks LOL

Hey, I'm interested. I'd like to see you other 18+ examples.

Just on the ones you refer to, my thought is this - we can be fairly confident TAA will repeat his haul this year; however, his likely higher price reduces the PPM. The thing about Coady is he had a great season, but will he repeat it? Lower prices reflect more of a punt, a lack of sustained quality.
At the end of the day, a sensible player will have a few premiums in 2 or 3 positions, but could benefit from PPM analysis to fill the lesser places in the squad.

                Exactly! 100%

This is not about 11(15) players, it is about building around your core 5/6 players and of course the next 4/5 fixtures difficulty, so I agree wholeheartedly..

Just playing around after considering this for all of 2 mins and i would say double and add a zero seems a fairly rough guide, probably some differences by position though?

      Price / Season Points
      £5m = 100 pts
      £7m = 140 pts
      £8.5m = 170 pts
      £10m = 200 pts

Seems approximately right, but also keep in mind that the big boys (Salah, KDB, Kane, Ronaldo, etc.) have a lower pp£ threshold because of their captaincy potential

It's amazing how much money you get if you decide to go without Salah, Haland, KDB, Kane, Son, TAA & Cancelo.
It really does wonders to your team !!

I may go with all 4.0m defenders and the rest all 4.5m.

35m in the bank just in case.

In the end they will end up paying 100m for a bang average player thereby elevating fan's expectations because he cost so much only to be disappointed again
