FPL new signings: Who is Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira?

Arsenal have completed the signing of Fabio Vieira after Porto confirmed they had struck an agreement for his transfer.

The 22-year-old, who has been likened to Bernardo Silva, laid on a league-high 14 assists last season and joins for a fee in the region of £34m including add-ons.

“I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.” – Mikel Arteta

“Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch.” – Arsenal technical director, Edu

With Mikel Arteta’s side sitting top of our Season Ticker over the first eight Gameweeks of 2022/23, we assess the Portuguese midfielder’s future appeal – or lack of it – in our latest Scout Report.

Vieira has spent his entire career playing for Porto and has already won three trophies, including two league titles.

Coming through the club’s youth academy, he made his senior debut with Porto B in 2019/20 and went on to score seven goals in 23 appearances. Those displays earnt him a call up to the first-team squad, where he netted two goals in eight games to help Porto lift the title.

In 2020/21, Vieira made four further appearances for Porto B, scoring twice, before graduating to the first team permanently later that season.

However, it was 2021/22 when Vieira really came to life, as the midfielder registered six goals and a league-high 14 assists in 27 appearances as Porto completed the domestic double. In truth, he was in and out of the starting XI but finally became a regular after Luis Diaz’s departure to Liverpool in January, contributing to 11 goals in his final 12 league games.

On the international stage, he has recorded 13 goals in 21 games for the Portugal under-21 side, for whom he picked up the Best Player award at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

PLAYING STYLE

“Fabio Vieira is special because he can see everything with his head on the ground. He is a player who provides assists and can enter the area, score in midrange and in dead-ball situations. He’s also improved in terms of pressing orientation.

But what most surprises me is the way he displays his quality when many teams use a low block on the pitch, and he can decipher what the game demands. These are the players that are worth a lot of money.” – Manuel Tulipa, the Maritimo Under-23 manager who coached Porto’s U15, U17 and U19 sides from 2017 until 2020

Vieira has played in a number of positions at Porto and is versatile enough to feature centrally or out wide on either flank.

However, he primarily operates as a second striker or a right-sided attacking midfielder, where he tends to cut in onto his stronger left foot, as his 2021/22 touch heatmap below shows.

Above: Fabio Vieira’s 2021/22 Season Heatmap, via Sofa Score

His ability to thread well-weighted passes to runners in behind the defensive line is apparent in this YouTube highlights reel, as is his growing reputation for being something of a set-piece specialist.

It’s also worth noting that he isn’t afraid to take on a shot from distance, with 29 of his 46 goal attempts in 2021/22 arriving outside the penalty box.

* League only

While it’s worth adding a ‘Primeira Liga’ levy on Vieira’s underlying numbers, he does come out well when comparing his minutes per goal, shot and chance created stats against his new team-mates.

However, as we touched on above, many of his efforts arrive outside of the box, which in turn affects his ability to consistently hit the target.

WHERE VIEIRA FITS IN AT ARSENAL AND IS HE WORTH BUYING IN FPL?

Due to his versatility, Arsenal will be able to use Vieira in a number of ways, but it will be interesting to see how Arteta plans to accommodate his new signing and Martin Odegaard in the same XI, given that they both traditionally thrive in very similar areas of the pitch.

Above: Martin Odegaard’s 2021/22 Touch Heatmap

Arteta told Sky Sports back in 2020 about the need for more creativity in his squad, and Vieira’s addition appears to be adding strength in depth as Arsenal return to the Europa League next term.

Look at the players that we had in the past at this club in those positions. You go back to Cazorla, to Rosicky, to Arshavin when he played there, to Ramsey when he played there, to Mkhitaryan when he came in. Even Jack Wilshere used to play in those pockets all the time.

That is a lot of players who are now not here. We have to renew that cycle. They are a big part of what any squad needs.” – Mikel Arteta

The introduction of five substitutions in 2022/23 also means squad players are far more likely to play a more significant role, while adding another creative player to the ranks could benefit Bukayo Saka, who was heavily relied upon last season and appeared in all 38 Premier League matches.

Obviously, at this point, it’s a bit speculative but it does have the potential to cause Fantasy bosses a few headaches, with Vieira, Odegaard, Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe competing for three positions behind the forward in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 shape.

Due to that uncertainty around Arsenal’s set-up, a ‘wait and see’ approach is best advised for Vieira, especially given that the more secure Saka is available for those managers looking to tap into the Gunners’ excellent opening fixtures – albeit at a higher cost.

However, a total of 20 goal contributions across the 2021/22 campaign really does show the quality Vieira has in the final third, and he may well be someone we can target in the midfield category further down the line. And by that point, he may also have had a price drop or two – further enhancing his credentials.

Is Fabio Viera related to Patrick?

Patrick Vieira's mother was Portuguese - which is why he has that spelling rather than the Italian spelling of Vieri that a few other famous footballers have, and Viera which is just a Spanish word.

Ready made chant for Fabio - think he will do well but ultimately is going have the "smith-rowe" role covering the odegaard & saka on the right side. Expect a series of 20 minute cameos.

Interesting piece in the Athletic on City's wing option if Sterling leaves. Seems like they're hoping for a breakout season from Cole Palmer:

"City’s wide options would be Phil Foden and Jack Grealish on the left and Mahrez and Cole Palmer on the right...

At the age of 20, Palmer has a big season ahead. He made 11 senior appearances last season but that figure would probably have grown had he not picked up an injury in January that kept him out for several months.

Part of the reason that City were comfortable in letting Ferran Torres leave was that they believe Palmer, on the back of what they had seen in the first half of last season, has a higher ceiling than the Spaniard, who they did rate highly.

Back then, Palmer had a good chance of getting into the team as a false nine (or even as an actual No 9, as he demonstrated by switching between the roles in a game against Everton) but next season his best bet is on the right wing. And City do expect him to play a lot more next season."

    https://theathletic.com/3372919/2022/06/20/sterling-jesus-transfer-chelsea-arsenal/

Assuming no new signings, would anyone be tempted to stick him on the bench at 4.5m? Or just one to keep an eye on?

Yeah ok, if you're on Cancelo-Laporte-Håland then he's not for you I guess. But City trios are seriously expensive so I don't imagine everyone is full up

You might start off with 2 and soon decide you want a third. You'd be stuck or need a hit if a cheapie is clogging up your squad.

I cant really see that happening with my squad tbh, unless maybe KDB gets injured & I want a little run with Gundogan (if he's even there still). If starting with Håland & Cancelo (& Liv/Spurs assets), there's no way I'm cramming KDB or Foden in there too. But I guess in many ways Palmer is better as a wait & see anyway - not much gained by having his pts sitting on my bench as opposed to just bringing him in later if he starts getting mins & returns

I'd follow him with great interest, but he wouldn't be a good use of a City spot. It would be like picking Elliott or Jones from Liverpool.

For me, it makes Mahrez more appealing.

You don't want a City player warming your bench.

Yeah this state should boost Mahrez and/or Grealish's (esp if Foden moves to the right) mins significantly

May be an interesting one to keep an eye on. He has always been on the edge of that first team while other youth prospects seem to be regularly in and out of the bench. The Athletic also said a week or so ago that Foden would like to play on the right so I suppose that gives them an extra option there while Palmer may become acclimatised to the first team.

I think the comparison with Foden is important. Pep has praised him as bigger than Pele, yet in his first season n the first team, he was used very sparingly indeed.

Giving me second thoughts. Odegaard is in my initial draft as I think he'll be made club captain this season, but this transfer could limit his playing time significantly

    5. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years

I think Odegaard will still play but the question is where and what his role would be. The Athletic pointed out that Vieira significantly improved his defensive numbers in the last season (something that Conceição wanted from him) and that it's possible he may be used in Xhaka's role, or he may dovetail with Odegaard ahead of Partey. Odegaard was extremely impressive last season but seemed to be an assist-the-assister type more often than not but he created a lot of chances. I'd see how things go during preseason to see if we get an idea of his exact role

I'm watching videos with dudes reckoning Salah and Son will be forwards this year. If they are, and with huge price increases, doesn't that put you off? Losing a point per goal AND the clean sheet point adds up.

And Son - will he match his achievements of last season? I think not. Although I expect Spurs to have a great season and finish a comfortable third, this time Kane will play the whole season with a smile, and Kulusevski will be there taking his share of the points too. Last season Son had the first half of the season to himself, virtually.

I only see a change like this happening if we get a big update and just have a general set of attackers rather than mids and forwards (which I don't see happening). If you change Salah and Son then you have to change Martinelli, Saka, Grealish, Foden, Bowen, Benrahma, Sancho, Elanga, Diaz, etc. Far too many changes and it'll leave people with only 3 spaces to choose the most popular attackers from and not many interesting options in midfield.

I just think it's a little silly if they just pick a random few, even Salah himself says he's a winger and not a forward so it doesn't make the best sense if he gets moved and others in the same role don't

I don't believe that Salah will be changed to a forward position as his role is RW.
LW and RW players will remain as Midfielders as they are supporting the forward, not forwards themselves.

Forwards can make up in baps what they'd lose in goal/CS points, but I'd have thought that Salah gets max baps so often the net result would be negative. Dunno, someone will crunch the numbers, no doubt.

Jota would have scored 159 as a forward compared to his 175 as a mid.
His bonus points would have increased by 13, but that wouldn't have compensated for points lost for goals and clean sheets.
I would expect that any midfielders who become forwards will have their prices slightly reduced.

Whether it happens or not I wish they'd be more transparent with their model. It wouldn't hurt them, just one summer, to knuckle down and figure out a pricing structure to single out each position for it's own merit. I mean it's not like we're all a pack of divs that don't know the difference between a DM and winger.

As Natedog has pointed out, more or less any players forming a front three will have to be re-classified on this logic, regardless of their actual role.

It would leave such a small pool of viable midfield picks as to make it unworkable.

I've read quite a few posts over the closed season where most seem to be backing wing backs rather than center backs for their initial teams.
My view is a combination of both will serve best this season - wing backs are more likely to get attacking points but also more likely to get subbed off early.
My plan is to play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 this season with 2 wingbacks (TAA, Cancello, James, Chilwell, Robertson etc.) and 2 center backs (undecided on who yet)
    What are your thoughts?

    1. Andy_Social

I've been saying the same thing. Based on last season's prices, I think it's a 5-/50 call. However, if wingbacks get a significant price increase and central defenders don't, I'll be veering towards the likes of Dias, Laporte VVD, Davies and Gabriel.

Very keen on Fofana if he's 4.5, Leicester's high xGc last season was an outlier looking at recent seasons and he's been excellent, also a decent threat at setpieces

I was actually toying with the idea of 'cheapest defenders from the best defences' last night, but collectively it does work out a lot of points and BAPS down the drain.

Yeah, I mean using Matip as an example (probably £6m this year), the £2.5m saved on TAA doesn't really afford you very much further up the pitch. Spread it across a 'big at the back' structure though...

I'd take him at that price.

As much as I don't want Chelsea to sign him, it would be nice to see him let off the leash and given the freedom to roam and attack defences. Pep is very particular about position, and I think it stifles Sterling. The real Raz comes out when playing for England.

The inexplicable critisism and bias towards him would help keep his ownership down, so he'd be a powerful FPL player. Captain material in the right fixture.

I think he'd do better at Chelsea than City - apart from with England he appears to perform better without a recognized No. 9 - at Chelsea he'd be seen as more of the "main man" and I think would perform accordingly

Chelsea just weren't scoring goals last season. Was that all down to Lukaku? Will Raz be the missing link? I dunno, they might need another buy-in. At this point in time, I'd wait and see how Chelsea perform in GW1.

I'm surprised you didn't pick me up on this comment (Giggs Boson) - it's actually the opposite of this!! He performs better with a recognized No. 9 eg Kane for England - the movement created from a decent center forward takes defenders away and creates more space, plus I think he needs a focal point for the attack. At City last season he underperformed as there was no recognized No. 9.

If he stays at City I believe he'll have a far better season playing with Haaland rather than at Chelsea with no recognized No. 9

Hmm, but isn't it Kane's false 9 tendencies (dropping deeper to play Sterling in behind) that bring out the best in him for England? Could this work at Chelsea with Havertz central, Sterling left, Mount right?

Absolutely it could. I think that Kane and Haaland are in a different league though to Havertz in that role, which is why I think he'll do better staying at City.

Yeah this was my take. Top teams don't like a 9 on the shoulder of CBs anymore, they like them deep in the build-up controlling the central midfield, before a late surge into the box.

I think Sterling would be in his element at Chelsea. The winbacks hold the width, giving freedom to the attackers to roam centrally wherever they like.

What price are people hoping TAA is? 3rd highest scorer in the game last season. Think he needs to be 8.5/9m minimum, otherwise it's already a 14 player game by GW1. I owned him for the whole of last season and never crossed my mind to sell. Was also frustrating as his points never meant anything, apart from one or two GW's when people free-hitted him out.

      Either 8m or 8.5m max.
What I'll be looking at is the different between him and Robbo and VVD.
0.5m more than Robbo and I'll take TAA. 1.0m more and I have a decision . 1.5-2m more than VVD also gives me a decision. Might end up with Alisson.

      1. Qaiss
        • 8 Years

Can he really be 8m? Everyone will probably own him again at that price, he’s just ended the season at 8.4m. Cancelo’s price will also be interesting

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 3 Years

I don't think everyone will own him if 8m. The only way I'd own him at 8m will be if Robbo is very close in price and even if he's 0.5 cheaper than TAA I'll still likely go with Robbo. 8m is a lot given the number of premiums that interest people and the desire to simultaneously go relatively big at the back. We've already gone from "Son is essential" a few weeks ago to again having lots of people overlooking him because of Haaland or Salah or Kane, and now we might have the likes of Sterling become a real option too along with other big transfers that inevitably will happen.

3rd highest scoring player in the game though. Everyone sees a player at 8m for that price and he’s locked, especially with Liverpool’s first 6/7 matches.

I personally think they need to be more aggressive with defender pricing to tilt the balance of the game slightly. Trent should be 8.5 - given he finished at 8.4 - with Robbo and Cancelo at 7.5.

That said, I think they'll stick to the usual incremental progression and have him at 8.0 (and Cancelo at 7).

      1. SkyByBo
        • 14 Years

Cancelo and Robbo will be 0.5 less than Trent, with James 1m less. If cancelo and robbo were 1m less trent becomes a tough sell imo.

You’re just contradicting your logic, though. Cancelo ended at 7.2, so by your standards he should be 7.0m.

I agree with your predictions at 8.0 and 7.0 and tbh I agree with fpl if they did those prices. Nothing to warrant a 1.0m jump for Trent. It’s ludicrous.

        1. SkyByBo
          • 14 Years

I'm not contradicting anything. The finishing price last season isn't relevant. Cancelo rose by 1.2m, the most out of all these big hitting defenders, and that's purely because his opening price was too low.

I think Trent's price was in the right ballpark so 8.5 is where he ended and should start, whereas Cancelo started in hindsight 0.5 too cheap and so could only rise by so much.

I just think it's so well known now that defenders provide such good value that it's time to price them more aggressively.

Don't forget the increase in team values and purchasing power by the end of the season though. Trent may have been 8.4m but the average team value was probably 5m higher than it started.

An overlooked factor here is the World Cup. The first half of the season (and presumably post-WC half) will be very congested. Clubs in Europe will play twice a week every week. This will necessitate more resting, especially of wingbacks. I suspect we'll be seeing lower points totals at the end of this season compared to last.

Trent rises in price even without points. End of the season proved it. At 8.0m, Trent will rise slowly. I see the merit of 8.5m but I can’t help but question it when James is 6.5 and Cancelo is 7.0 etc.

TAA’s points are capped at 200. No defender is getting higher than that. Whereas Bowen could easily cap his points total. The point is defenders shouldn’t continue to rise in price as there points potential stagnates/plateaus.

Cheers mate! Yeah that’s my main concern too as I do feel like Brentford could suffer a bit from “second season syndrome”.

My thinking is Henry can be easily replaced with any 4.5 DEF. I’ve seen Wolves defenders (Ait Nouri, Jonny) get a bit of attention recently.

Yeah I’m not convinced on the Brentford double up either. I’ll probably be more likely to keep Raya and replace Henry with another 4.5 DEF. Maybe someone like Ait Nouri or Jonny if they can nail down a starting place.

A conundrum of mine, assuming they are the same price, is Watkins over Wilson. Weirdly, whilst Watkins has better short term fixtures, Wilson feels short term.

Yeah I know what you mean. I think a lot of people are attracted to Newcastle because of that home game against Forest. That, combined with the fact that Wilson finished last season strong and tends to be a strong starter as well makes him an attractive pick for me too.

In truth, I probably won’t want Watkins or Wilson after GW2.

Seeing a lot of Son love and very little love for Kane. With the price differential likely the lowest it's ever been is no one tempted to get kane instead? On pens, plays more minutes etc

I'd take a guess that kane will be a 12m fwd and son at 11/11.5m mid.

      • 8 Years

Agreed, also there will be too many options in the mid and may be better to focus transfers there, while keeping kane as a striker

If Spurs had slightly more appetising opening 4, I’d be all over it. You’d argue I’m excited over the shiny new toy that is Haaland, but Kane tends to starts somewhat slower. He’s a great option, just I would only captain him once in the first 4 unlike Haaland. Haaland has better fixtures after, just imo.

        * slow, not slower as that suggest I’m comparing. I just think Haaland has all the hallmarks to start fast.

Where it gets really interesting is if Son is reclassified as a forward. What needs to be the price differential between those 2 then?

yes, the august Kane is going to be an issue. Will have to see who chelsea bring in, may be a good option from there. else, might stick with one of watkins/wilson and get a premium mid

    3. Piggs Boson

If Son is classified as a midfielder, Kane would have to be around £2m cheaper for me to take him over Son.

      Son gets more points.

      1. FPLGOOD
        • 4 Years

I'm currently thinking quite differently. For many seasons Kane and Son have been going back and forth who get the most points. Currently Son maybe has a slightly more excpected points but for me only just.

For Kane one argument is that forwards are hard to find. Pens and more minutes were already mentioned.

If they are on same price, I would probably go for Kane. If Kane is lower, then definately for him.

Interesting. Yeah I think I'm being a little harsh on Kane. His awful start to the season corrupted his season data.

Haven't yet analysed the Conte effect, I imagine Kane comes out much stronger post Conte. Think I'll only use that data for Spurs players...

          1. FPLGOOD
            • 4 Years

I took some look at that earlier. If I remember correctly Kane had positive effect but Son didnt really. But this might go hand to hand just with Kane's extremely poor start. Still under Conte Son overperformed Kane, so you're not off with that. I just assume its mostly variance between these two.

Also I just personally think Son had the season of his life and Kane more of an off-season.

Next year is Kane's best change to win PL with Spurs so imagine he'll be right at it from the off this time. Even we think its far off, I'm sure Kane thinks there is a real change with Conte and the reqruiments.

The issue for me is that I'm likely to go with Haaland and I'd much prefer my premiums to be spread across positions, so having nearly a quarter of my budget gone on 2 forwards could be problematic if I need to jump on a midfield premium. The thing with Son too in general is consistency, even during Nuno's disastrous term last season he was still picking up points. Kane has been superb since around GW25 or so but he's also of late had a tendency to throwaway bps quite a lot with wayward shooting, losing the ball in midfield and yellow cards. Son picks up more points too of course for G/A and the clean sheet pt so it's not inconceivable that in a 2-0 win where both score, that say Kane ends up on 6pts while Son end up on 11. Even if that's reversed and Son gets 0 bonus while Kane scoops all 3 there's only a 1pt difference in favour of Kane.

Next season may be different of course, with someone like Bissouma there he may feel a little less inclined to drop deep so much which should be good for his prospects but we'll have to see.

Log into your account and click the edit option on your Gravitar image, the renewal date is listed there but it doesn't state what the renewal price is. I'm hoping it will be the same as last year (£22.50 I think) because after the current £24.99 offer ends the price of a premium annual membership will shoot up to £36.

Feels like they’re gearing up to classify Perisic as a defender:

“Perisic's position in 2022/23 Fantasy will ultimately determine his appeal.

The Croat arrives at Tottenham Hotspur on the back of eight Serie A goals and seven assists for Inter Milan last season.

Although he has mainly played as a winger throughout his career, Perisic has been transformed into an attacking wing-back for Inter.

He played as a left-sided wing-back last term and is expected to occupy the same role at Spurs in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.”

From the Premierleague.com linked from the FPL Twitter.

I only paid £17.50 for FFS Membership last year and have an auto-renew coming up in August. Will that renewal still be at £17.50, now FFS are offering two different types of membership Premium Member (Annual) for £36 a year (or £24.99 before July 1) and Bundle Package (Annual) at £40 a year (or £29.99 before July 1) ?

That's what I'm thinking. If my membership is going to auto-renew at more than £24.99 then signing up for Premium Member (Annual) at £24.99 before July 1 makes sense.

From what I was told a few weeks ago, as long as you keep it on auto-renew, it locks in the price you initially paid. So it should be £17.50.

    Afternoon

Please could I propose an addition to the ways of filtering the Team Stats data in the members area.

I want to view xGC data for a specific Gameweek Range AND select whether it is Home or Away. This would allow me to look at a team's xGC data at home (or away) for the second half of last season, for example.

At the moment, we can select one of:
    Last 6 Home or
    Last 6 Away or
    All Home or
    All Away or
Gameweek Range (but not split for Home/Away).

    Thanks

What I read today is that Ajax will let Ten Haag take one player this window, but not 2. Ten Haag wants both Antony and Martinez. Now Martinez is a centre back - you'd think he'd be the priority when United already have a surfeit of wide attackers. But, United huh.

A lot of news and changes to come; but what the hell; I am narrowing my list to 4 priority sections:

Must have: Raya, Robbo, Son, Gerhardt, Chilwell/Rjames, Jesus, Maddison, Wissa,

Could have: Cancelo Trippier, Mount, Wilson, Neto, Bowen,

Watch list: Cash, Diaz, Perisic, Haaland, Guimarez, Bruno, Nunez, Raphina, Sakha, Matip, Cucarella, Pope, Laporte, Mwepu, Zinchenko,
Sterling, Foden, Mitrovic, Kulu, KDB, Salah, Sancho, Martinelli, Pulisic,

Don’t want: Kane, Ronaldo, TAA, Watkins, DCL, Richarlisson, Coutinho,
Obviously I am banking on a few moves to make things work.

Good call on Mwepu. I'm keeping an eye on him too. Was very impressed by what I saw toward end of last season

Anyone think that the delay is due to FPL introducing integer pricing?

Ie - instead of all players starting at x.0 or x.5 that players could come in at x.2, x.7 etc.

Would certainly make it more tactical and would be an extention of what happens with player values after the season starts?

Ie Kane at 11.3, Salah at 12.6, Cancelo at 7.1 etc (I've made those up BTW)

I think it will be a rule change around the five subs.

Delay? It's still June. Forest haven't even finished clearing up the empty bottles yet.

I don't really see why that would cause a delay personally, it's just the same as setting a price at .5 or .0, no? If prices can rise to anything around that I can't imagine that would cause any more work, but then again I know nothing about coding

I don't know why that would be the thing that you think they're implementing which causes a later launch.

But yeah, I sort of agree. I wish we had players across all price points rather than in 0.5m intervals.

Some players are worth more than 4.5m but less than 5.0m. Like someone like Coufal. He should be 4.7m or something and that could be someone worth buying but at 4.5m he's underpriced and at 5.0m he's overpriced.

All players should just be the same value as they were at the end of last season.

Make prices drop by the same metric as price rises and let the market decide the players value

New players as priced like they always have been

The 0.5m pricing is mainly frustrating right at the start
If you have a 4.5m defender and he doesn't start/gets injured etc. in GW1 you basically need to use an early transfer on him as if he drops, you can only afford a 4.0m replacement (who are usually non-playing fodder)

Anyone else think Spurs have a shot at challenging for the title this year? Know they are miles off at present and Europe is a big ask, but it's going to be a unique season, Conte is an elite manager and if they get a fast start they could be strong front runners.

The starting 11 isn’t good enough, let alone squad depth. Only way I see it happening is if they keep everyone fit, whilst key injuries to City and Liverpool occur. You’re not winning the league with a defence involving Dier, Doherty, and Perisic, and barely any back up attackers. Yes Leicester happened, but we all agreed that will never happen again. Spurs might compete until Feb and drop off. Remember they started well under Moutinho with a worse team.

I think people thinking Spurs have a chance under-appreciate how good City and Liverpool are/have been. Could definitely see a winners medal in a cup competition, for sure. Conte typically not great in Champions League, either.

They're only a long term injury to Son or Kane away from finishing 5th.

Not quite, but I dont think its as far-fetched as some commenters above. Will require quite a dip from both City & Liverpool obviously. And more consistency against the low block. But they can certainly beat the top 2 on their day and should be a lock for 3rd at least.

Depth is the biggest challenge. They have a world class manager and world class players in Kane and Son but the question is can they afford to rotate them or lose them for a few games? What I will say is that City and Liverpool have both lost a little of their depth since last year / are going to do so this summer, you just never know how things like injuries or off-pitch events can time out

I think they can do very well and are a bit underrated, but they have this bad luck that they have to compete with two best teams in Europe and two of the best teams in the PL history. Imho they can have a shot at challenging for title only if both Lfc and City have some injury problems. But I would tip them for a top 4 finish personally.

No but think 3rd place will be between Spurs & Chelsea. Don't see anyone challenging City or Liverpool
