Pretty sure highlights won't show that mate. That's why they're highlights. It's called a comparison to last year. Look it up. Very different to last year. Which surprise will result in less goals for him. He would have gotten so many more chances last year. He's always been a bit average in terms of shooting ability but made up with it with the high volume of chances he got. Now he's not getting those.

I have not once judged Haaland and his ability, he is a World-Class striker.

Please vo find the post where I said Haaland is a terrible player.

He is either going to fail under Pep or thrive.

I just don't want to own a player that expensive which is not the greatest cap option.

Are you going to cap him GW5?

You said, and I quote verbatim…

“ Remember my post about about Haaland not scoring many goals for City?
It is because Pep wants him to play as a midfielder.”

The man then proceeded to score a hat trick in the second half, making you look a right mug.
Your comment above is now saying that he won’t score many goals because the champions league is coming… suddenly nothing to do with his positioning of the way that Pep wants him to play, conveniently.
You also said that he won’t score many goals for City. You didn’t specify whether they would be champions league goals or premier league goals, you just said “goals”… so I fail to see the relevance of the CL being around the corner tbh.

he basically said Pep wasn't playing him as a 9.

I called him out on it in the first half, but he twists and turns to suit which ever way the wind is blowing.

simple rule of thumb, whatever FF is spouting the opposite tends to be the case.

If Zinchenko was there Walker would be benched for his last two performances and Cancelo would be over on his preferred flank.

Not to say Cancelo has been great but imagine the early sub may have been in part due to the fixtures coming up.

      Mid-week > Weekend > Mid-week > Weekend & so on...

Can't risk over-playing Cancelo when Walker already struggled a bit, will need more rest etc. They need to get Gomez up to speed ASAP for the benefit of both full-backs.

if i were on a wc i'd consider not putting him in, but have other players im looking to move rn

he's ranked 35th for xGI among all defenders, with some players around him also having a game in hand. his role as defintely changed and he's not creating as much anymore, so if you're not paying for attacking potential then may as well get the cheaper city assets for their cleanies

I'm giving him Forest but if they conceded again I think I'll drop him. If they didn't have such a nice fixture next I'd probably move him out this week to get Sterling in as opposed to Gundogan or Bernardo. Still have to see how things look for those two

You buy Cancelo for a few reasons.

      1. He's the most nailed on City defender. He can play both wing back positions well so will always find his way into the side when fit. He started 36 games last year. That's more than TAA.

      2. He gets a ton of bonus points. The way he plays, possession, recoveries etc. He will get lots of bonus.

Last season he only managed to get 1g/11a and he significantly underperformed his expected stats. If he plays 35+ games again this year, which he could easily do, I expect he'll clear 200 points easily and be worth the money even with less attacking threat. If he takes up last year's attacking positions he's the best defender in the game even ahead of TAA.

      1. Hairy Potter
        • 10 Years

I think points 1 and 2 are sound. If another Man City defender looks nailed then perhaps they could be a cheaper alternative though.

I'm not so sure whether the attacking returns are going to be there this season, from watching the early matches. Having said that, Forest at home is a plum fixture where Man City should dominant possession and he should be getting further forward.

          • 10 Years

He's a top player, but I personally think he "might" be dropable from a FPL point of view given his price.

I am with you here. If this position continues I am expecting less returns. 11 assists sounds a lot with xA from first four.

    Ward
TTA - Cancelo- White (Nico, Patterson)
Salah- KDB - Martinelli - Bailey - Andreas
    Haaland- Jesus (Archer)

Was planning on doing haaland and Bailey to Rodrigo and Toney but second thoughts now after haaland haul yesterday, although can’t see him starting this gw.

    Any thoughts ?

I have both KDB and Haaland. if I needed to free up some money for upgrades elsewhere I would use KDB over Haaland for this. May be controversial, but would you not consider downgrading Salah to free up the funds? I’ve gone without Salah and have Diaz. So far, so good!

Salah was pretty much involved in all of the Liverpool moves for goals and could easily have scored 2 himself.

No reason for a panic sale. Especially if Liverpool have their confidence back up.

Cracking goal from Trent and Diaz looks good in the air too. How tall is Diaz? Guess it's all about the leap.

height is overrated for open play crosses like that, the dip of the cross and positioning is much more important - height is only important for properly marked headers like goalkicks and corners

yeah, it's an attitude thing too I think - most smaller players are literally told they can't compete in the air (which is true from goalkicks especially) so don't have any reason to try to/practice and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - so many smaller players just pretend to jump with no intention of actually trying to get it

players like Diaz, Jota and Cahill etc. have that 'dawg' in them, to coin a popular term and don't give af about getting hurt etc. - even Toney isn't super tall but is a beast in the air because of this (and his 'spring' as you say)

For anyone interested in Isak, he might not start straight away, probably a couple of sub apps first to get settled in.

As far as his history goes, no injury issues

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.za/alexander-isak/verletzungen/spieler/349066

As far as his scoring record goes, he still needs to develop into a good striker. The PL is not the easiest League for unknown strikers to get off to a bang.

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.za/alexander-isak/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/349066#subnavi

I would personally hold of until I see whether he is for the PL, or not.

Will see if he cameos today. He won't have trained with the team much, but he played and scored against Barca last weekend so he's fit. He's probably better suited to Newcastle's style of play than Wood as ASM and Almiron don't cross the ball. His pace could be an option against Liverpool midweek.

You have to sell, he's not looked good so far. Earlier subs than usual - albeit yesterday's was enforced (however he'd not contributed much by then.)

We could do alright against Southampton but no guarantee he gets attacking points.

West Ham always give us a tricky game. Fulham will make it hard for us, and then afterwards it's Liverpool.

Spurs don't create many chances. They prioritize defensive solidity to scoring many goals. However, i see them putting a couple against a promoted team like NF

Spurs are pretty attacking, they scored 4 the opening day and if on song could easily score 3 or 4 today at the City Ground.

I have watched them a couple of times this season. They are attacking but dont create a whole loads of chances. They have enough to win confortably against poor teams, but wont score many against tight defences.

We won’t make it easy for them. Forest’s defence is tight, particularly at home.
I wouldn’t bet on a trouncing, but you’re right that it’s entirely plausible too.

Got a but grumpy but he's still playing beautifully. Kind of agree with Sadio below that we might have inflated expectations of his explosiveness in FPL terms, but I don't think I'll even consider moving him on til GW9

Keep Jesus. Highly owned and 1 game when he explodes and fairly captained and you go down like a truck tyre on a slop.

he's a nice pick (I don't have him) but not much more than that, people expecting double-digits regularly will be disappointed

his haul in GW2 was fairly fortunate also, if you actually look at how he got points (although offset slightly by the 1cm offside against Bournemouth)

      1. nobwak
        • 10 Years

Not sure how much fortune there was in that world class Bergkamp-esque finish for his first goal. Second one was a typical poachers header.

          • 10 Years

I said his haul was fortunate, not every return he got in that game - that goal was class (obviously)

            • 10 Years
            3 years, 4 months ago

… but the haul was a result of the goals he scored in that game. So surely for the haul to be fortunate then so must be the goals?

            1. SADIO SANÉ
              • 10 Years
              3 years, 4 months ago

basically anyone in the whole league could have got those two assists and the header in any other game, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time - now you can say that's exactly why it isn't 'fairly fortunate' but I think it is 'fairly fortunate', I don't just look at outcomes I look at 'repeatable' actions:

keepers aren't going to be dropping the ball at his feet every game, forwards aren't going to be flicking near post corners straight to him every game and Martinelli isn't scoring that chance every game either - but whatever
