We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

TY. Tierney, I had him in my team early last yer so I kept an eye on him..looked good going forward and a good crosser. then he got injured.
It's a risk, I admit, having 3 x 4m defs but I'm going that route, only 1 to play each week

Very nice but don't you think having 3 ubercheaps in defence is a little risky? With injuries or suspensions there aren't that many viable alternatives. Not overly keen on Nasri or Guthrie.
Still, it's early days yet and fun to tinker.

        Guthrie...other alternatives Britton or Frei.
Nasri...could go with Kagawa (along with Rooney and Valencia) or Yaya.

As long as you have a full team for GW3 the DBL was still a bonus. I may have 1 or maybe even 2 Reading and take them out GW 2 &3 still leaving 11 players.

I have my doubts about Chelsea and RDM. He had success last year from parking the bus. You won't do well with that tactic in the Premier League. I also think QPR will be much better this year and are always hard to beat at home. Remember the corresponding game last season...

I just think Chelsea with their new players will have far too much for them.
A lot of the big teams badly underestimated some of the minnows last season and got burned in the process. I think they will have a deal more respect this time around.

    A) Coloccini / Cuellar / Fonte (0.5 cheaper)

Extra .5 would be spent on Clichy > Lescott by the way.

been tinkering a little more with my team. this is what i have so far:

    de gea, federici
    terry, lescott, cuellar, mccartney, clyne
    hazard, bale, kagawa, noble, maloney
    torres, tevez, graham

for gw3: i will go terry -> kaboul + torres -> rooney. and if tevez doesn't get much game time, i'll downgrade cuellar into a 4.0 defender, and get adebayor for tevez

Jinswick, looks like Taarabt is the first choice penalty taker for QPR.

He took one yesterday with Helguson AND Zamora on the field.

There's a long way to go yet but he's definitely on the watchlist. There are several mid-priced mids who could turn out to be great value depending on form and fixtures this season and he's one of them.
At the moment I'm looking at 2 x 6m range mids plus a 6m striker. There are quite a few candidates.

Agree. There seem to be so many options around the 6.0 range.
Taarabt is an interesting one because his first two fixtures are tasty and his next 7 are bluergh!
I think I'll have the same spread as yours.

A poll for the deadzoners (and Aussie lunchbreak)

Which 3 players do you think will rise the most in price in the first 4 weeks?

I will collate the results today and maybe repeat this next week to see the changes

    For me it's
    1. Taraabt QPR
    2. Graham SWA
    3. Ba NEW
The last one is a bit left field but if he plays centrally and starts scoring early we will be all over him at that price
I would have picked Hazard but his ownership is so high already

In short, no. I actually think he's behind Gomez and Watson, but how much gametime the latter 2 will see is uncertain. Gomez took a pen the other day when all 3 were on the pitch. Regardless, Maloney is a decent pick for 5m I think.

You have 4.0m to spend, I assume? Fox might be a good option.
He was 5th in the most assists list in the Championship last season, with 11 - but 4.5m though.

Its impossible to say as he has only just joined the squad. I'd say it is expected he would become the starting RB having been named in the championship team of the year and having also turned down the chance to go to ManU.
