We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Gameweek 21 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

In this early selection, we select a first draft of our regular picks before they are finalised and published much closer to Saturday’s deadline.

We are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI, while our bench is also price-capped after a reader vote.

In the meantime, this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the duo behind the Always Cheating podcast – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

GAMEWEEK 21 FIXTURES

THE LIKELY LADS

FPL review: 2

These picks come before quite a few sides take to the pitch in midweek, so are even more subject to change than ever.

In the case of Man City, Manuel Akanji (£5.0m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£12.5m) might effectively be placeholders, then, although the inclusion of Erling Haaland (£12.2m) feels inevitable barring an unfortunate injury. The current results of our captaincy poll reflect the esteem in which he is held. Despite blanking in three of his last five appearances, he is top of the pile with over 61 per cent of the votes.

The other Scout Picks staple, Kieran Trippier (£6.0m), looks equally sure of inclusion in Gameweek 21. The injury to Bruno Guimaraes (£5.7m) is a concern, but opponents Crystal Palace lack a regular goalscorer and have failed to find the net in each of their last two Selhurst Park outings. Trippier, meanwhile, has remarkably secured bonus in six successive matches.

Given the strength of Newcastle’s backline, we could potentially add a second defensive pick into the mix, with Nick Pope (£5.4m) and Sven Botman (£4.5m) leading the charge. The former is averaging 6.8 points per start since the World Cup, more than any other ‘keeper.

    GW21 Martial & T.Silva to Nketiah & Botman
    GW22 Salah to Saka

GW23 I will have 3 Arsenal 3 City 2 United & 1FT. Enough money for Mitro to Kane.

    Current team
    Kepa
    Trippier Silva Walker
    KDB Salah Bailey Rashford
    Haaland Martial Mitro

If you avoided Mitro and the Chelsea lot and held on to your triple captain chip, you gotta be pleased with how it's panned out so far.

Only blemish would be the residual Kepa points given a pretty lucky clean sheet for Chelsea at the weekend.

Drunken rage transfer on Sunday night of Andreas>Odegaard for exact money. Some regret, but KDB being out would just mean starting Almiron, and I'd likely want KDB back for the DGW anyway.

Agreed. At a certain point, you gotta play more than one-week games. If you transfer KDB out and in again, you're stuck losing potential moves elsewhere. If you want to ride with him through the DGW, and there's sense to doing so, the alternative -- just starting Almiron -- seems fine.

    DDG
    Trippier Akanji Gabriel
    Salah Saka Rash Almiron
    Kane Haaland Mitrovic

    Ward Benrahma Bueno Zanka

Thinking to sell Mitro+Benrahma and get Greenwood+Rodrigo (-4) for this week and then in gw22 Almiron to Odegard. Also could double New def with Zanka to Burn/Botman in gw22. Opinions? Thx.

Just realized I'm actually close to being relatively satisfied with my team (rank is another story).

In the market for a 4-5m defender to replace Patterson. Got Trippier (obv), Botman, Shaw (hero) and Bueno already.

Brighton usually burn me, but Dunk's due a goal right?

Understand there is likely a blank for Brighton coming, but along with the "don't fall for crap DGW picks", I'm playing the "don't look too far ahead game" this season.

Or is this Estupinan player any good? Really no idea.

Estupinan is super attacking & miles ahead of Dunk for xGI. Brighton are actually taking a lot of short corners & intricately worked FKs at the moment rather than targeting the big guys.

Unpopular opinion. Assuming a 4-3-3 formation which seems to be the chosen formation amongst all the big clubs, Kane would be in my premier league team of the season over Haaland. Kane has scored all his goals playing in a really dreadful attack. Haaland has contributed little to most games and has been a tap in merchant in a much superior attack.

Kane does too many things well. Too many things. It's just annoying that we still haven't seen him in a truly stacked team since the Eriksen-Alli-Son days

The World Cup was close, but he still had to play a creative role there too... Which only adds to his appeal, imo

But to be fair to Haaland, they have two different profiles as players. Kane has evolved from number 10 (very early in his career) to number 9, and now something like a false 9 hybrid with a number 9. Haaland is easily the best pure 9 you can get atm. He can score goals from almost any scenario possible, and easily makes space for himself to score because he sees what others don't see and makes very, very smart timely moves

If he had gone to City.... I actually am of the opinion that despite Haaland being an incredible player, Harry would fit much better in this City side...

If Kane was in that City team I believe he would have scored close to the same goals as Haaland but his overall contribution would have been much more and City may not be trailing Arsenal by so many points. They should have signed Kane last season.

Long term for sure, but maybe wait until GW22 and try a Brighton/Brendford defender.
Still undecided but thanks for the help!

Dont have, just Trippier and Almiron. But not a fan of double defense of the same team

    Advice appreciated - 1FT, 0 ITB.

    Ederson
    Trippier, Schar, Gabriel
    KDB, Rashford, Martinelli, Almiron
    Haaland, Kane, Toney

    (Ward, Shaw, Andreas, Bueno)

    A) Save FT
    B) Almiron -> Mitoma
    C) Andreas & Gabriel -> Mitoma & White (-4) (bench Almiron)
    D) Almiron & Andreas -> Mitoma & Odegaard (-4) (bench Martinelli)

    Cheers

If you're on 2FTs and would only burn one then go for it but unlikely to be the best move available.

I doubled up on Newcastle defence ages ago to monopolise on Trippier (with Botman), as everyone had him. Now I'm considering Pope + Trippier + Botman as most have doubled up.

    Brave or stupid?

      Neither.
For me the only question to answer within that is if you think Almiron has had his time.

I think so. Plus Wilson, St Max, Willock and Isaak, soon to be nailed on, taking his points. Time to fold.

I never like triple defence, purely because one mistake can wreck it.

Also, Botman is still less than 6% owned, so still a decent differential overall.

How do you pick keeper for a gameweek.

If i had it again I would still have Ward v Forest over Ramsdale v Spurs.

    What's your criteria ?

    Team CS form.
    Opposition attacking form.
    Away or home form.
    Save points potential.
    Other?

    1. Tonyawesome69
      • 7 Years

Bookies CS odds. Mainly just stick to set and forget main GK rather than trying to get the GK rotation right

Cheers. Honestly I'm wary of betting odds, there to maximise revenue. But that's a great take so I'll check them on Friday.

I look at the potency of the opposition, how likely are they to score against my keeper.

    3. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years

I don't count CS as form. Goals can occur from very random low-probability events. Prefer defensive stats

      My criteria:

Big chances conceded in the last 4 and last 6
Opponents' attacking form and whether the GK and/or opponent prioritize sitting back, ball control, or nonstop attack (Leeds & Fulham), in an attempt to predict how many chances might show up in that match
Shakiness: how error-prone is this defence? Do they have a clear weakness or significant absentee, and does the opponent have an attacker or playstyle which will target this weakness?
      Ignore the GK's team's reputation
      Ignore last week's points
Next GW, I'll ignore the results and only adjust the decision process if it proves faulty or new data emerges

Examples: I don't target Forest with my attackers anymore, and I now consider Liverpool - VVD a game to target with captaincy. I'm reluctant about playing a defender or GK vs Leeds or Fulham, unless that defender has significant attacking threat. I didn't react to Kepa's recent points, and still played him vs the weak Palace attack

    0FT 0.7ITB

    A. Roll FT
    B. Cancelo to cheaper defender, to enable upgrade of Andreas -> Odegaard after GW21

    Ward
    Cancelo Trippier Mee
    KDB Rashford Martinelli Almiron
    Haaland Mitro Kane

    Iversen Gabriel Andreas Patterson

Not sure how you're rolling 0FT....

Maybe see how Cancelo fares on Thursday, but i'd probably roll (assuming you have one to roll) and give yourself options as any possible doubles in 22 become clear. Can always do B the week after

      1. Kloppage Time
        • 10 Years

I would roll and do that move after GW21.
I´m planning the same move to switch Cancelo to a cheap defender (most probably to white) and upgrade Andreas to Odegaard.
However, I may do Odegaard to Almiron instead if Newcastle win their EFL semi final just to reduce the amount of players blanking in GW25 because of the final, and assuming Man U win the other semi final.

Question with Andreas to Odegaard - who do you bench?
