We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Wednesday night’s meeting between Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

The numbers and graphics below are taken from LiveFPL and our own Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data for every single Premier League fixture.

A comfortable win and clean sheet for Manchester United was dramatically snatched away in stoppage time by Michael Olise‘s (£5.4m) stunning free kick.

By cancelling out Bruno Fernandes’ (£9.8m) opener, Olise denied the Red Devils a tenth successive win in all competitions that would’ve seen them move into second place.

BLANKS FOR SHAW AND RASHFORD

Luke Shaw’s (£5.1m) two million owners were probably checking their live ranks as the game petered out – clean sheet points but nowhere near any bonuses. Suddenly, he ended up on just the two appearance points, although he did go close with a 16th-minute sliced shot that whistled wide.

There was also a first-half cross that debutant Wout Weghorst (£6.0m) headed over. Managers may even opt to bench Shaw for Sunday’s crunch trip to Arsenal, now that the brilliant Casemiro (£4.9m) will be suspended for picking up his fifth booking of the season.

As for Marcus Rashford (£7.1m), his effective ownership numbers are so high that goals or assists wouldn’t have made much impact on rankings. However, he did have a match-leading four shots and was involved in their goal, playing a one-two with Christian Eriksen (£6.3m) before the Dane pulled back to find Fernandes near the penalty spot.

The four-match scoring streak is over for Rashford but managers will keep the faith, especially with a possible Double Gameweek 22 on the way.

FERNANDES’ FABULOUS FORM

UPDATE ON BLANK AND DOUBLE GAMEWEEKS

Still competing in four competitions, Man United’s schedule is tight and no midweek can afford to be wasted, making it likely that their previously-postponed home meeting with Leeds United will be moved to create a Double Gameweek 22.

Yet, if either side needs an FA Cup replay – Erik ten Hag’s men host Reading whilst Leeds face either Boreham Wood or Accrington Stanley – the match will have to wait even longer.

All other Man United midweeks between now and the March international break are reserved for their two-legged League Cup semi-finals, Europa League journey and an FA Cup fifth-round tie should they proceed.

In fact, the situation will worsen if they or Brighton and Hove Albion reach the quarter-final, as it will force a Blank Gameweek 28 on top of the possible Blank Gameweek 25 of League Cup final weekend.

Crystal Palace are fine for 25 but their 28 depends on whether Arsenal remain in the FA Cup.

MARTIAL AND DALOT ABSENT

Those managers still with Anthony Martial (£6.6m) will be disappointed to see the Double Gameweek end with one solitary point. Withdrawn at half-time against Manchester City due to a leg problem, he wasn’t named in the squad for Selhurst Park. Neither was hurt right-back Diogo Dalot (£4.7m).

It meant that Weghorst made his FPL return less than a year after frustrating the community during numerous Double Gameweek blanks.

Meanwhile, absent for Palace was centre-back Joachim Andersen (£4.5m), with a calf complaint set to keep him on the sidelines for three weeks.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita; Clyne, Guehi, Richards, Mitchell; Olise, Doucoure (Schlupp 71′), Hughes (Milivojevic 84′), Zaha; Edouard (Ayew 71′), Mateta (Eze 56′)

Manchester United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen (Fred 83′); Antony (Garnacho 69′), Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst (McTominay 69′)

Both have good underlyings and pass the eye test. Personally I think both are good options as are the other Brighton mids and I think points could be spread between them, has to be your own call about which one you go for

      Arsenal mid situation

Coin toss or even a double-up for now, then maybe reassess with a lot more data later

Assist potential swayed me towards March, but Mitoma might turn out to be more consistent

Clearly sold to offset the purchase value of Duran from the MLS. Agree with VTID, never given a decent chance (under Gerrard or Emery). Always looked decent when he came on for us, and his recent goal against Wolves proves that he's still a clinical finisher.

I wouldn't panic over Martinelli. Lost count of the number of times I was warned about ESR last year & glad I ignored it. Think some cover is required for Martinelli as he's been starting a lot of the UEL games as well. But much as I like Trossard, he's no Gabi

If this Trossard move goes through, we might need new data on Arteta's plans for Martinelli. KDB's form might also raise a flag, Rashford probably just had an off day, and Almiron still seems to be playing well when I watch him

When they beat City 3-2 at the Etihad last season, they just came off of two losses to Wolves and Southampton where they conceded 5 goals between the two games. They also then went on to lose to Burnley immediately after, never know what you're going to get with them

Is Trossard just a cheap alternative to Mudryk?

I'm hearing a fee of £20m. Which is 1/5 of what Chelsea overpaid for Mud.

Good off the bench, can he play left and right wing??

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 11 months ago

Chelsea paid / are paying £85m not £100m. I think Trossard is a good option, versatile and can play across the front 3 positions as well as other spots like LWB, has good PL and international experience. In a way if Arsenal end up with Trossard over Mudryk it may have been a blessing

      1. DBW - Slug's Mortgage …
        • 4 Years

I've never really seen much of Trossard, obviously capable. Good to know he can play in any of the front 3.

I hope he's not being signed just to say we've signed someone though, which Arsenal used to do before.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 5 Years
          2 years, 11 months ago

I'd say it's probably more of an opportunistic signing, bit of a Harry Redknapp. Didn't know you would want or need him before, but other options have fallen through and he wasn't available then so probably didn't really think of him as an option. He's seemingly available now (likely at a cut price due to falling out with de Zerbi) and has wanted to step up to a CL club, should suit all parties.

Only worry I'd have would be him seemingly forcing a move out, nobody seems to be sure what's happened but de Zerbi from the outside doesn't seem like the vindictive type and The Athletic said part of this bad attitude de Zerbi has said he has had since his return from the WC came out with an altercation with a teammate recently. I always feel if a player does it once they can certainly do it again

Castagne to Botman/Burn the obvious move here?
Would like to bench Shaw for this one with Casemiro out and Arsenal well rested. And Castagne has to go anyway

Giving KDB one more week (well, 2 including tonight's game) as he's one of the few players in my team with a decent fixture (imagine most are dealing with the same issue)

Could also do Mitrovic > Toney but I don't think it's a priority with Mitrovic quite fixture proof

    Raya
    Trippier White Shaw (Castagne Bueno)
    KDB Rashford Martinelli Almiron (Andreas)
    Haaland Kane Mitrovic

Wow, Lloris dropped would be huge, although honestly I think it would be deserved. Might simply be to take him out of the limelight a bit mind, but it's also needed right now

    Hi all
    Current team here:
    Kepa (Ward)
    Shaw, Trippier, Botman (White, Bueno)
    KDB, Rashford, Martinelli, Almiron (Andreas)
    Kane, Haaland, Toney

    1 FT. 2.2 bank.
    Should I roll FT?

Other option would be to do Andreas to March, but then that gives me a benching headache.

Who to lose first, zaha or mount ? Bruno s absence for Newcastle tempts me towards selling mount this gw but I am very undecided.
