We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Double Gameweek 23 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

In this early selection, we select a first draft of our regular picks before they are finalised and published much closer to Saturday’s deadline.

We are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI, while our bench is also price-capped after a reader vote.

In the meantime, this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the duo behind the Always Cheating podcast – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 23 FIXTURES

THE LIKELY LADS

FPL Gameweek 10 tips: Dance like no one's watching 1

Deciding on which Manchester City and Arsenal players to include is the biggest decision facing the Scout Squad panel this week.

The pair are, of course, the only teams who play twice in Double Gameweek 23.

In the blue corner, only Erling Haaland (£12.2m) feels completely nailed at this stage. The Norwegian failed to register a single effort on goal at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday but has been in a class of his own for much of the season.

Who joins him, however, is up for discussion. Ederson (£5.4m) is the safest route into City’s backline, but his points ceiling perhaps feels a little low, given that 12 other goalkeepers have outscored him since the Premier League resumed after the World Cup. Nathan Ake (£5.1m) and Rico Lewis (£3.9m) are alternative options under consideration.

In midfield, the biggest question is undoubtedly Kevin De Bruyne (£12.4m) or Riyad Mahrez (£7.7m). The duo shared minutes at Spurs, with the Belgian playmaker staying rooted to the bench for almost an hour for ‘tactical’ reasons. Still, when he did come on he created more chances than any other player on the pitch. One theory is that Pep Guardiola prefers to use an additional forward when up against five-man defences. If that holds up, and it’s a big IF, we could potentially see De Bruyne play both Double Gameweek 23 matches, given that Aston Villa and Arsenal traditionally line up in 4-4-2/4-2-3-1 formations.

However, a potentially decisive factor in Mahrez’s favour is that by opting for the cheaper Algerian, we can in turn afford another premium, like Harry Kane (£11.7m). The record-breaking forward has thrived in the past against this weekend’s opponents, Leicester City, who happen to have conceded multiple goals in five of their six post-World Cup matches. If we can’t afford Kane, Dejan Kulusevski (£7.9m) is a cheaper alternative in the Spurs ranks.

Decisions, decisions… and we haven’t touched on Arsenal yet.

The Gunners also have question marks over key personnel, with Gabriel Martinelli (£6.7m) hauled off on 58 minutes at Goodison Park and Ben White (£4.7m) underwhelming of late.

That makes 90-minute man Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) all the more appealing, with Bukayo Saka (£8.3m), Martin Odegaard (£7.0m) and Eddie Nketiah (£6.7m) potentially fighting it out for the other two starting spots.

Elsewhere, it’s hard to look past Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) and Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) barring injury, with visits to Bournemouth and Leeds United respectively.

FFS- When will the 6 gameweek projections be updated? It's currently on GW 20-25, with Bruno rated the 4th highest scoring midfielder for GW25. Would be helpful if we could see GW23-28 before the deadline. Thanks

See my earlier re posting of articles. It does not feel to me that paying members are currently receiving value, sadly.

Even better, why not let us select which games we want to count in the projection instead of being forced to look at the next six? I may want to look at the next three instead of the next six. Make the tool more flexible, please.

Play Ben White (Brentford, Man City) or Luke Shaw (Leeds)

White. Don't think you need to worry about his mins

I wasn't worried about his minutes
        I was thinking logically and this scenario played through my mind;

        - White may not keep a CS this dgw. In which case he is capped at around 4 points if he plays two full matches. Obviously there may be the possibility of a goal or assist but this is unlikely.

        - Shaw is playing against Leeds, who have lost rodrigo to injury. No manager either at the minute...
CS much more likely and an assist or goal is likelier to come from Shaw than White. Shaw could easily get 6 points, minimum

Hmm City didn't look all that threatening against Spurs though? And Leeds have still been creating a lot of chances. I would still go White but I guess you can make a decent case for Shaw so up to you

Gotta' be White surely. Loss of Casimero screening will also affect the United defence. I have Shaw and Gabriel and will be playing both. However if only one then it would be the Gunner defender for me.

    Kepa
    Trippier Tete Akanji
    Rashford Odegaard Martinelli Andreas Bruno
    Haaland (c) Kane

    Ward Toney Shaw Patterson

    A) Toney + Bruno > Nketiah + KDB (-4) which was my original plan
    B) Bruno > Mahrez
    C) Toney > Nketiah
Or can someone see any better options?

And Foden to Mahrez? I do not want only one city player in my team. And City cant keep clean sheets.

What about BB gw23? Bench right now: Ward (TOT), Mitro (NFO), Andreas (NFO), Schar (bou).

Or is there a massive DGW coming up later, which i should save BB chip for?

If you think Fulham beat Forest then I'd go for it

I can see the outfield players getting nice points. Definitely BB worthy but would save for a big DGW.

Not bad - I was planning a similar looking BB a while back. But now I feel like the pricing this year lets us roll with such strong benches that it could be a really powerful chip in, say, DGW34 with a squad full of doublers (execept maybe Haaland & Kane who may not double that week). Andreas could be ok with the right fixture (like this week) but I would probably try to replace Ward before BBing if possible

        * DGW29. 34 is meant to be big too, but 29 is when I'm aiming to BB

Having a Hard time 2 decide the either way :

    1. Option : Bruno Fernandez / Almiron / Mitrovic OUT
Mitoma / Mahrez / Nketiah IN
    Minus 4 points & 5.5 ITB

    2. Option : Bruno F / Almiron OUT
    Odegaard / Mahrez IN
    Minus 0 & 3.4 ITB

    My Team right now :

    KEPA
    TRIPPIER - SHAW - WHITE - CUCURELLA
    SAKA - BRUNO - RASHFORD - ANDREAS - ALMIRON
    MITROVIC - HAALAND - KANE

    Opinions appreciated

I agree since i have Mitro, he can score against Nott.Forest but still have this irritating feeling about Nketiah with 2 games 🙂

Possibly but there’s a big Gabriel Jesus shadow looming on the horizon so long term I’m not sure Nketiah is a good move

Yeah they say Jesus should be available in late february so I could throw Nketiah in just for these 2 games 🙂

If you have the money to go Almiron > Odegaard on its own, I think I like that just given Bruno/United’s recent form and with 2 good fixtures coming up. If not, I’d go B. I’m currently on Nketiah as my 3rd ARS and dreading not having an easy route to Odegaard.

Good Point Honker, I´ll Defo take Odegaard in for Almiron and probably Mahrez in for Bruno for the DGW

    B Martinelli/Toney to Mahrez/Nketiah -4

    Bruno Rashford Odegaard Martinelli
    Haaland Kane Toney

    Kepa Andreas Shaw Bueno

Think A for me, but it’s really close. Like Saka over Mahrez in isolation because of minutes, pens, 2 home fixtures, and fewer rotation headaches moving forward, but the upside of grabbing the extra doubler is very tempting.

    Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated.

    1 FT, 0.8m ITB
    Ward
    White Shaw Trippier
    Rashford Saka Bruno Salah
    Mitrovic Haaland Nketiah

    Iversen Andreas Digne Bueno

    A. Salah > KDB
    B. Salah, Bruno > KDB, Mahrez -4
    C. White, Salah > any non-ARS defender (MCI? CHE?), Odegaard -4

Feeling stuck. B feels the most straight forward move, but worry a squad with White, Digne, Bueno, Mahrez, Nketiah, and even KDB in recent weeks opens up too many rotation risks and could force a wildcard earlier than I’d perhaps want.

Not overthinking it myself too much - how does Salah to KDB and White to a Chelsea defender feel?

Giving myself headaches atm (0.1 ITB):
    Fabianski (Ward)
    Trippier-Ake-Zinchenko (Burn-Shaw)
    Martinelli-Rashford-Fernandes-Gakpo (Andreas)
    Haaland-Kane-Nketiah

My plan is (after a horrendous gamble that hasn’t paid off) to go
    Gakpo -> Mahrez
and carry on shifting out Man Utd/Newcastle players, as required, for a solid GW25 team (Burn to Tarkowski, Bruno & Shaw out to balance some funds).

    Still G2G in people’s eyes?

Got this Nailed for gameweek 23

    Kepa
    Shaw. White Trippier
    Odegaard Saka Rashford Mahrez
    Mitrovic. Kane. Haaland

    Bench - Ward - Patterson - A.Peirera - Cucurella

Have a feeling most teams are shaping up very simillar ?

    Then DGW 25 I´m thinking - Patterson/Cucurella/Peiera OUT
    Tarkowski/Neves/Robbo IN

What are you all thinking for the DGW 25 ?

Do people think it's worth dropping Trippier to afford Odegaard? And Saka for Salah worth a hit?

    A: Almiron/Trippier > Odegaard/White (-4)
    B: Salah > Saka
