Sergio Aguero runs amok as Man City see off a Malaysia XI 3-1. A dazzling solo goal and a couple of assists served Fantasy managers a devastating reminder of his current form, with Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson also finding the net. Scans reveal Gareth Bale looks to have escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s challenge in Spurs’ friendly with Liverpool last Saturday:

Malaysia XI 1 Man City 3
After Vincent Kompany flew home on Sunday to be treated for a calf problem, Roberto Mancini reshuffled his defensive options for yesterday’s match with a Malaysia XI. City kept faith in their new 3-5-2 formation once again and, with Pablo Zabaleta slotting into the back-three – Adam Johnson was handed a rare starting role on the right flank, Yaya Toure maintained his attacking central midfield role, while Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez started up front once again.

As City’s fitness increases with every passing game, Aguero’s influence continues to grow. Yesterday, he produced a masterclass and played a part in all three of his side’s goals – a clear indication of his menace ahead of the new season. Within the first 10 minutes he had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the bar before a fantastic solo effort opened the scoring on 17 minutes; dancing round four opposition defenders, the Argentine found the net after executing a deft chip over the keeper to grab his second in the past three games.

City went in at the break one up but Aguero then turned creator just three minutes into the second-half, teeing up Tevez for the second. Only four minutes later, the former Atletico Madrid was at it again – this time a superb chip found Johnson inside the box and the winger wrong-footed the keeper to notch City’s third. Roberto Mancini made six changes as the game progressed and, much to the home side’s relief, withdrew Aguero after 70 minutes; the hosts’ late consolation failed to take the shine off a strong display from the Premier League champions, who have now won three in a row and conceded a single goal in their last four matches.

Post-match, Mancini revealed that Kompany’s calf problem is “nothing serious”, while going on to praise the performances of his front pair ahead of the new season, saying:

We were confident two weeks ago and I’m even more confident today. Sergio played very well and his partnership with Carlos has continued from last season. They scored a goal each today which is good. Hopefully we can continue his good form in the coming season.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 75); Savic, K Toure (Boyata 76), Zabaleta; A Johnson, Razak, Y Toure (Scapuzzi 58), Suarez (Evans 64) , Kolarov; Tevez (Mancini 76), Aguero (Lopes 70)

In Other News…
Reports in the Mail suggest Gareth Bale has escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s tackle in Spurs’ goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday. The Welshman has returned to light training after scans allayed fears of a possible lengthy absence ahead of the new season – Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas played down the suggestion of the matter being reported to the FA but once again called for Adam to make an apology:

Needless to say, we are extremely relieved Gareth has not been seriously injured. There is previous history between the two players on the challenge that was done I think three years ago. Will we take it any further? We are discussing it within the club but in my opinion, the matter is dealt. But it would be extremely human for Charlie to come out with an apology. But you can’t force people to say anything and we will have to wait and see.

Back after a long rest away from fantasy football.

    Here's my preliminary team

    Friedel : Federici
    Cole A : McCartney : Lescott : Cuellar : Hangeland
    Hazard : Bale : Larsson : Pienaar : Dyer
    Torres : Adebayor : Pogrebnyak

This ofcourse depends on the Pienaar move to Everton, Adebayor move to Spurs, and that Friedel stays as 1st choice goalkeeper for Spurs.

    With 1.5mil for GW2 Torres -> Aguero

    Feedback would be lovely

      Good team.. Maybe 7/10.

I think not going with any City attack for GW1 is suicide though.

Maybe a bit too much invested on your 3 cheaper mids, I don't like Dyer as a pick atm... Also Pog isn't a great pick imo, and will be difficult to get rid of.. I'd upgrade him to somebody in the 6 mil region.

Looks good mate. Welcome back. I would be slightly worried about no UTD coverage from GW2, and no City attacking coverage in GW1. Defence is v similar to mine.

Thanks for the feedback, probably right, City attack cover for GW1 is a must. Not too worried about my lack of United cover though, and dont feel Rooney is worth the 12m.

Hi - could anyone please RMT

    Friedel / Federici
    Clichy / A Cole / Cuellar / Demel / Fonte
    VDV / Kagawa / Pienaar / McClean / Noble
    Rooney / Aguero / Petric

I'll probably have Torres for GW1 and then bring Rooney in for GW2.

Can anyone make any suggestions as to how to improve this please?

    Many thanks

I would consider downgrading McClean to dyer/maloney/beausjour
then upgrade VDV Clichy Kagawa -> Bale Valencia Lescott (or something similar)
IMO much more robust and resistent to rotation

    For those interested

    Likely formation:

    4231
    Cech
    Ivano Luiz JT Cole
    Lamps (Oscar) Mikel (Essien)
Ramires (Mata) Hazard (Oscar) Mata (Marin)
    Torres (Studge)

    What I’d love to see:

I reckon we'd try that at home vs weaker sides. Lamps? Not in a 433 - Mikel's the most solid CDM we've got.

If we stick to 4231, Lamps is made for it. Likely to see this go on for this reason 😉

Good price considering they made Moses 7.0 and Maloney pretty much matched him for the last 8/9 games of last season. Plus he scored a belter against us. (United).

As a Scotsman and follower of Maloneys career I love him and think he's a decent wee player. I'd never have him in my FF team though, made of glass and will likely be a rotation risk when he slips out of form which he is very capable of doing.

He plays very advance, almost OOP, he is second on penalties to someone who will spend most of the time on the bench, he had decent returns last season, considering he started 8 matches, and his goal/assist per start ratio elsewhere is decent, especially for a 5.0 midfielder!

If you look at the percentage ownership theres a few shocks in there -

Krul is the highest % selected goalkeepr in 20.8% of teams
Hazard is the highest % selected midfielder in 23.1% of teams despite not playing a game in the PL
Cabaye is the 2nd highest % selected midfielder in 22.5% of teams when he has a tough start and is overpriced.

    Others of note -

    Kagawa 16.0%
    Yaya 19.2%
    Cerny 14.4%
    Walker 22.2%

    Hello peeps

    First ever post on here.

Thought i'd give my two pennies on two players that could potentially be FF gold but risky punts,Hazard & Kagawa - Hazard opted for Chelsea 'cause he's been promised he'll play in his preferred postion, the hole, and he'll start.United & City couldn't guarantee that.He won't be rotated and he'll play behind the striker so get him if you want him in your team.

Kagawa won't start every game IMO - All depends on United's formation, who they playing against and most importantly, how quickly he adapts. But for 8.5, i reckon he's definitely worth a punt. Also Fergie has been very impressed and that def counts.

Thoughts on this team, a little with a strong and offensive back line? I will switch have Torres for GW1 and then switch to Rooney.

    De Gea
    Vermaelen / Baines / Lescott
    Bale / Valencia / Pienaar / Noble
    Rooney / Bent / Graham

Not conviced by Pardew's words if I'm honest. Where does Cisse play if Ba is playing through the middle? 2 up front maybe? That's how it all started in January and it slowly evolved into Ba playing out wide if I remember correctly?

          I'd be cautious over such a high rotation - unless you have 1 x £6-7s + 1 x £4-5s

I think better to pick solid players and keep them in for all but the toughest away games - and look for cheap alternatives who can fill there if really worried.

Rather Verm + Cole + Hangeland (+ two 4-4.5's) than a mix of £5-6s and a stronger bench.

I prefer class over the risk of over rotation.

I disagree. I used to use a 6.5/6.5/4/5/4/4 but more rotation is more powerful and better value than picking a big hitter. If you know your football and can judge which one is more likely for a CS it is leagues better.

Said it already and will again, Liverpool do not suit Rodgers game style as they are. They need some signings such as Allen. Some will slot in well, think the passing game will suit Suarez and Borini well. Others will struggle with it.
