Sergio Aguero runs amok as Man City see off a Malaysia XI 3-1. A dazzling solo goal and a couple of assists served Fantasy managers a devastating reminder of his current form, with Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson also finding the net. Scans reveal Gareth Bale looks to have escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s challenge in Spurs’ friendly with Liverpool last Saturday:

Malaysia XI 1 Man City 3
After Vincent Kompany flew home on Sunday to be treated for a calf problem, Roberto Mancini reshuffled his defensive options for yesterday’s match with a Malaysia XI. City kept faith in their new 3-5-2 formation once again and, with Pablo Zabaleta slotting into the back-three – Adam Johnson was handed a rare starting role on the right flank, Yaya Toure maintained his attacking central midfield role, while Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez started up front once again.

As City’s fitness increases with every passing game, Aguero’s influence continues to grow. Yesterday, he produced a masterclass and played a part in all three of his side’s goals – a clear indication of his menace ahead of the new season. Within the first 10 minutes he had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the bar before a fantastic solo effort opened the scoring on 17 minutes; dancing round four opposition defenders, the Argentine found the net after executing a deft chip over the keeper to grab his second in the past three games.

City went in at the break one up but Aguero then turned creator just three minutes into the second-half, teeing up Tevez for the second. Only four minutes later, the former Atletico Madrid was at it again – this time a superb chip found Johnson inside the box and the winger wrong-footed the keeper to notch City’s third. Roberto Mancini made six changes as the game progressed and, much to the home side’s relief, withdrew Aguero after 70 minutes; the hosts’ late consolation failed to take the shine off a strong display from the Premier League champions, who have now won three in a row and conceded a single goal in their last four matches.

Post-match, Mancini revealed that Kompany’s calf problem is “nothing serious”, while going on to praise the performances of his front pair ahead of the new season, saying:

We were confident two weeks ago and I’m even more confident today. Sergio played very well and his partnership with Carlos has continued from last season. They scored a goal each today which is good. Hopefully we can continue his good form in the coming season.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 75); Savic, K Toure (Boyata 76), Zabaleta; A Johnson, Razak, Y Toure (Scapuzzi 58), Suarez (Evans 64) , Kolarov; Tevez (Mancini 76), Aguero (Lopes 70)

In Other News…
Reports in the Mail suggest Gareth Bale has escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s tackle in Spurs’ goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday. The Welshman has returned to light training after scans allayed fears of a possible lengthy absence ahead of the new season – Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas played down the suggestion of the matter being reported to the FA but once again called for Adam to make an apology:

Needless to say, we are extremely relieved Gareth has not been seriously injured. There is previous history between the two players on the challenge that was done I think three years ago. Will we take it any further? We are discussing it within the club but in my opinion, the matter is dealt. But it would be extremely human for Charlie to come out with an apology. But you can’t force people to say anything and we will have to wait and see.

Hold on everyone, just hold on...

AW said that Pol & Gir will not start the season.

He said that Bend & Park will be leaving.

RVP is 90% going to leave too.

So, what striker will start the season for them?

Chamack bus taking off, all aboard...

No way will Chamakh start GW1, he's been dreadful in preseason.

If RVP goes, then it's around 90%+ certain that one of Podolski and Giroud will start through the middle vs Sunderland.

The only other option would be to start with Gervinho as the furthest forward and go with something like Ox-Gervinho-Walcott but that's unlikely (But possible)

Neymar is the next superstar of world football. Lots of clubs have tried to sign him but he didn't want to leave Santos before winning something with them and give back to the club that gave him his start in football. It's impossible to say someone will be better than Messi because of all that he has done, but on an International stage Neymar will be far more successful and whichever club he joins when he leaves Santos, I expect him to be very successful there too.

    Torres - Ageuro - jelavic

2m in the bank for the Rooney Switch

Thoughts on Allen v Dyer at 5.5? I'm thinking Swansea have got a good run of games as have Everton hence the inclusion of Howard, Pienaar and Jelavic?

Seems to be the case that a lot of people think Kagawa is only going to be eased in for United and he may take a while to transition. Why is it that Hazard is picked by so many teams then? Exact same reasoning could apply to him potentially negating the DGW completely.

Because United will have to adapt to a 4-2-3-1 as well as letting Kagawa ease in, whereas Chelsea already play this formation. Also United have many players at a similar level to Kagawa, Chelsea only have Mata (Oscar playing for Brazil on 15th Aug)

Chelsea need Hazard to play early on with Mata having been at Euros and Olympics, Kalou released, Malouda/Sturridge out of favour. Plus he's a bigger player for Chelsea than Kagawa is for Utd.

And we're yet to see where Kagawa will fit in to Fergie's systems. Can't see him totally abandoning 442, especially as he's got Hernandez and Welbeck to fit in somewhere.

United don't need their only young playmaker to be playing early on? Seeing as Kagawa has been the subject of most United plans and their preseason games that would indicate he's going to be a very big player for United.

I heard hazard moved to Chelsea on the basis he was assured game time but the amount of possible rotation in the Chelsea midfield puts me off any of them.... Kagawa seems to be fergies big summer signing and has had plenty of preseason game time, reckon he'll be a more regular starter

Won't challenge for first team honours yet....so he's a fantasy non-issue - will be an excellent player in 3 years. And great news for the Australian national side.

Dempsey bids to force Liverpool move after refusing place on Fulham training camp...

Dempsey has taken matters into his own hands, according to Goal.com, who report the player and manager Martin Jol had a heated debate at the training ground before the Dutchman eventually relented.Fulham flew to Switzerland for the week-long trip on Monday without their star man, who scored 23 goals in all competitions last season. Any further activity from Liverpool depends on the future of Andy Carroll.

Would solve my Dempsey headache if true. Surely fulham will struggle without him? Thoughts of his replacement at Fulham?

Like this a lot actually. The only place you're a little light is midfield, with Britton a poor choice and Taarabt unproven. I've got the same dilemma at the back, and chose to sacrifice a Chelsea defender to bolster midfield. Spurs/City defender is vital in my opinion

So now Liverpool have a finisher, anyone consider Downing? His created lots of chances, lots of crosses, with occasional long shots. 6.5m, surely bargain?

I would think he'll be warming the bench.

Or even Borini/Suarez if Carroll plays as the CF.

Well with Cole back and Dempsey trying to force through a move I think he'll see a lot less game time this year.

With his 0 goals and 2 assists, I'd knock him back even if he was free
