Suspensions

Nicolas Jackson (£7.1m) is not only struggling to produce any attacking returns, he’s also only one yellow card away from a ban.

Yes, our Suspension Tightrope series – as well as the accompanying widget on our homepage – has been relaunched for the 2023/24 season.

We’re keeping track of which Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players are racking up the yellow cards and how close they are to a one-match ban.

This article also reveals when the cut-off dates are for suspensions and how many bookings our players have to avoid in order to dodge a ban.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

That’ll be Gameweek 19 in most cases. Manchester City and Brentford, who contest their 19th fixture in Gameweek 20, are the exceptions.

Of course, any postponements, whether they be weather-related or Covid-enforced, would change that situation.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

ON FOUR/THREE YELLOW CARDS

All of Jackson’s bookings have come for dissent, a result of the threshold for that offence being reduced at the start of the season.

He’s not the only one sitting precariously on four bookings, as Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon (£5.5m) is also on the verge of a ban.

Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) is a notable name on three cautions.

Lucas Paqueta (£6.0m), who has committed more fouls than any other Premier League player this season (13), is also two bookings away from a ban.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

Is Raya effectively the go-to goalkeeper pick now?

Even though Arsenal seem to be doing similar to last season with the clean sheets secured on the road.

Its like these sophisticated modern managers don't understand what happens to a defence when you keep changing the keeper. Raya and Ramsdale probably completely different types in terms of catching/punching, coming for crosses or staying at home, sweeping up etc, I say probably because I'm no expert on keepers but I do believe a big factor in all these goals going in is choosing goalkeepers for reasons other than their ability to stop goals. Flekken presumably a data driven transfer for Brentford looks horrible with his decision making.

Morning, 2 FT and 0.3 ITB. Any of these moves worthwhile? Will probably do Onana > Areola next week after West Ham's fixtures turn

    A - Watkins > Alvarez
    B - Son > Diaby
    C - Watkins > Edouard

    Turner
    Estu - Chilwell - Ruben
    Son - Saka - Mitoma - Rashford - Mbuemo
    Haaland - Watkins

    Onana - Archer - Botman - Baldock

Botman sitting 3rd on my bench got me thinking. What's the max points you've benched in the 3rd place? For me, think it was Lundstrum 21 pointer a few seasons back.

With Lamptey getting a game, wonder if Estupinan is going to be an issue with Europa and the next IB being benched.

De Zerbi clearly is going to rotate so is Estupinan a hold considering the variables?

Following Chilwell this week, and now Ramsdale, I honestly don't think many players are safe now. Certainly not from Brighton, Villa, Arsenal etc, the European teams.

I'd say Son, Maddison, Rashford, Bruno, Salah, Saka, Odegaard, Enzo are about as good as it gets. Haaland ok most weeks but it will come.

we're in a new era of rotation now. When even the keepers can get swapped for no obvious reason, you really need to make sure you've got players on the bench you don't mind if they are in the team. Shouldn't be an issue this season with the way they've priced things, everyone seems awash with cash. Can't see them making the same mistake next year, it'll be the other extreme.

I don't think he'll be an issue given he's a fitness machine, but Lamptey had a great game on Saturday so I'm sure RDZ will be glad he has another option there. Fitness for Lamptey, however, has always been an issue, so I don't see him getting too many starts. But I would say he will get some here and there

I nearly got him in but would have needed a hit and gut feeling was Chelsea aren't fixed yet and they had a lot of problems last season to fix. I'm surprised Poch was arrogant enough to say they'll be back in europe next season in his presser this week. Can't see it myself at the moment, long way to go mind. Its a very poor start from them given the fixtures they've had, a bit unlucky yesterday for sure but a fixed Chelsea would be blowing Bournemouth away luck or otherwise.

Looked like a classic hammy pull and Arteta said it was a hammy issue so I see no problem with doing that now. There's a chance it was only a small strain but I'd doubt it given how he was reacting immediately after his goal that was disallowed

Have 2FTS and need to build some action plan for my team of losers, any thoughts welcomed:

Onana - reckon transferring out the GK should be the lowest priority?

Chilwell/Henry - use 1FT and sell the one that will be injured before GW6?

Bruno - have Rash as well and feel I should use 1FT on Bruno - Mbeumo, Diaby, some crazy punt on Doku or Newcastle mid?

    Sterling - keep for now?

    Marooned on last page!

    Does this:

    Jackson + Chilwell -> Alvarez + Botman + 1.5ITB (for free)

    To end up like this:

    Pickford (Turner)
    Gabriel, Estu, Botman (Udogie, Baldock)
    Salah, Saka, Mbeumo, Mitoma, Maddison
    Haaland, Alvarez (Mubama)

    Look good?

Money ITB makes it easier to get Rashford in if necessary, or to go Mubama -> Morris if I feel especially masochistic.

Henry to Botman if confirmed out sounds great!
Thought I did Wissa to Alvarez myself, might leave it late till I ditch him or might keep & play but that is looking unlikely. Leaks should help.

Also consider ditching utd players if they continue being what they have always been. Not sure the game vs Bayern will be any good to their morale. Injuries & all setting in could force you to sell.

    B)Watkins + trippier
    C)Alvarez + trippier (-4)
I’m leaning forwards A at the moment, thoughts?

Alvarez but I'm not convinced by Luton. Even with an extra game. I guess it could work short term.

      Alvarez and Botman.

Does Trippier look like assisting to justify the outlay?

I wouldn't double on the Newcastle defence either. Just spread it across different teams.
