It's close but you have 10 players including an injured Richarlison which makes it 9 for a -8 including Taylor who you could swap with a Bailey on a FH, add Maddo and MGW and you are with a little bit of luck at least 12 points up plus the 8 point hit is 20 points.

      Very borderline.

You're really only on 6 right now. If you're removing good players like Foden, Saka etc I'd say FH. But if you're removing injured defenders or guys like Gordon then I might argue to try and get through it.

I am generally very much "pro-FH" for this gameweek but your team doesn't need it.

Son. Watkins. Toney. Bowen. Essentials all covered. Plus porro + reguilon who are good choices for this week. I am bringing 4 of them in on my Free Hit.

Oh wait, I mis-read. You are taking a -8 to get to that. Who are you removing?

I would probably opt for a FH instead, as I bet you are removing decent picks like solanke.

I'm sure there was but it is pretty rare to have two double digits hauls back-to-back. This season Son himself had 1, Haaland none, Watkins none, Palmer 1, Salah 2, Foden 1, Solanke none, Saka had a run of 3 in a row which is rather freak event.

Many heavy hitters follow general pattern of haul every 3-4 games.

Without reading the article. There are so many weaknesses in XG. Just the individual vs the team is enough to make it close to valueless is pretty obvious by watching a game what is going on.
The only defense I can give is it puts a very approximate value for those who rarely watch football.
The X assist is the biggest joke because the assister is reliant on the finisher.
    Now i will read it.

If I've understood your question, it won't work.

Activating FH reverts your team to how it was at the start of the gameweek. So any transfer you make before activating the chip is lost.

And if I haven't understood the question, F

Comparing aggregate xG data is misleading. Take two scenarios involving the same player:

    Game 1: two shots, with an xG of 0.5 each. Aggregating: 2 x 0.5 = 1 (goal)
    Game 2: five shots, with an xG of 0.2 each. Aggregating: 5 x 0.2 = 1 (goal)
--but these are not the same.

Lets denote the probability of scoring at least one goal in a game as
    P(scoring at least one goal)

and it can be derived by:
    1 - P(not scoring in all chances)

    Game 1:
    P(not scoring each chance) = 0.5
    P(not scoring on all 2 chances) = 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25
    P(scoring at least one goal) = 1 - 0.25 = 75%

    Game 2:
    P(not scoring each chance) = 0.8
    P(not scoring on all 5 chances) = 0.8 * 0.8 * 0.8 * 0.8 * 0.8 = 0.33
    P(scoring at least one goal) = 1 - 0.33 = 67%

So, the player got the same (aggregate) xG of 1 in the game, but is more likely to have scored in the first game.

    1. Better off with a pin and a…

Agreed (I was about to post much the same). Adding up xG can be a very dodgy thing to do!

I also think there is something to learn about a player by looking at the difference between xG (non-pen) and xG (non-pen) On Target. For example, Jackson has 12.61 and 9.83. Son has 7.12 and 9.6. Son is improving the raw xG by being more accurate than the average player. Jackson is not.

Not at all. I remember in Covid days when disengaged managers would thrash my score with a handful of players by getting the right captain.

I personally don’t like an incomplete team but that’s probably a failing not a strength

At 7 I did. I didn't have Son so that was a big reason for me.

Having 4 no shows vs the 4 players you would get in dgw 34/37. For me I think with transfers I can cover the future FH but I can't cover them if the players don't have fixtures.

Anyone considering the Wildcard now to get a decent side and around 10/11 out for this blank?

Thus saving the FH for 34, and build towards BB in 37 or plan well for 34 and FH to maximise a strong 11 in 36/37?

Ranked in the 200k want to be a *tiny bit different on FH. (Hard to be different with only 4 fixtures)

    Flekken
    Udogie, Doughty, Coufal

    Morris, Watkins, Muniz

There are some obvious players that I just have to have but beyond them any punts you'd change in this team?

The differential is triple Spurs attack.

And you could also try backing a team like Forest in defense.

I'd also consider backing West Ham attack rather than Villa since McGinn is suspended. There's not much room to differentiate but you can chase a bit of upside with a draft like:

      Flekken
      Reguilon Williams Murillo
      Son Maddison Johnson Bowen Kudus
      Watkins Toney

The trouble with triple Spurs attack is who do you pick from Johnson, Werner or Kulu? Obviously, Son and Maddison are nailed as two but the third slot would be less clear cut. I think I'd rather Porro/Udogie.

If Son’s a given take a punt on two others?

I think Son and Mads are a given. If it was a home fixture I might be more inclined to do the triple up in the mid but I like Bowen and Bailey as mid options so there isn’t much room for another spurs player (who isn’t a defender for me)

You just pick one and hope they score. It's one week. Johnson's in form. I think he's the one if you want to take a punt.

    2. Eze Really?

I don't trust Toney (at the moment) and think it's worth the punt to bet against him

      I'd get Porro here

That would mean going against the punt of udogie. Don’t think I want to be anymore template with this team.

FH29 itself is tiny bit different. There are few out there ready to field 7-8 players this week to save FH for 34 or 37.

Being too different might end up being on below par scores as non-FH teams.

That’s fine, I’d rather risk it.

8 players for next gw 1 ft have BB and Free hit.
Would you save ft and play with 8 players?

    Flekken
    Udogie
    Doughty
    Son
    D.Luiz
    Bowen
    Watkins
    Morris

Difficult to assess as we don't know the rest of the players in your team that could be sold and start in future GWs like another Spurs player since you don't have WC left

Fielding 7 so far without a hit

This definitely reaffirms Morris’ form - he’s not far behind Muniz on each criteria. Muniz looks great but Tottenham’s clean sheet is putting me off. Toney is a worry. But it’s Burnley…

Is 8 players (-4) FH territory?

    Areola
    Doughty Taylor
    Son Maddy Bowen
    Toney Watkins

I don't really see the added value of saving the FH for a later DGW...

Most of the players I would get on wildcard in GW 30 or 31 would then have a DGW 37, where I would use the BB. The potential DGW 34 seems unattractive anyway, I doubt I'll get Palace or Bournemouth players on FH, instead of playing the likes of Haaland, Salah, Saka, Son, Foden...

i agree not sure why theres big push from some on here not to use now... this has to be the the best time. everyone will be set up for DGW anyways without a FH chip , and lots will use BB to . this GW is when you could make a big rank jump

      I'd just FH that team.

You're on 5 players this week presumably. It's an easy decision. I also agree. I think the added value of a FH later is really not there.

    My midfield is
    Saka Foden Palmer Luiz Barkley

I'm missing Son and would like to bring him in this week. I don't think it's sensible to lose Barkley this week (he is going to Salah next week).
So, do I lose Saka or Foden or go without Son?

Brilliant article Simon. The fact that television pundits and radio sports shows are talking about it regularly now shows its rise in popularity but I have been baffled why...that there is no context in saying a team had an XG of 2. They failed to score likely because of many low scoring opportunities along with a good gk performance. We just don't have the data (as far as I am aware) or more likely the time to dig into looking at each shot. I just don't trust it so I ignore it (to Fabio's delight).

Thanks mate and glad you enjoyed the article! I agree, I do think xG can be useful, but it needs to be looked at in the right context.

I suppose I should not write it off completely, it is just that it requires an enormous amount of data as you have pointed out in the article and then how accessible is it. Maybe I need an Opta account!!! I am not a casual player but nowhere near an expert, I just enjoy the banter with the lads (...deep down I do care about my OR...lol)

A team can accumulate a high xG with lots and lots of low quality shots from distance; or they can have 2 or 3 shots all game which are inside the six yard box and post a massive xG score. If there is a bit of pinball from a corner and Lewis Dunk smashed in a goal on the line that will post a huge xG but it does necessarily mean the team have played well.

100% mate. There is so much more too, how clinical a player is...Son has 14 goals from an XG of 7.8, the opposition style of play can change from game to game even for the same team and not to discount the player you are looking at, positional changes, form etc. As Simon pointed out, the timeframe is a key component and you can't look at a players overall XG and make conclusions without all the other data.

XG takes the jagged reality of actual performance then smooths it using averages to create an alternate fantasy reality and then tries to use that to predict real reality.

    Imagined correlation rarely equals causation.

Just because a player did not score for the past two weeks then scored three goals this week does not mean he scores every ninety minutes even if XG averages suggest this is possible. Hey may score next week, he may not score for five weeks. These are unreliable people not reliable accurate machines.

XG, XA, goals imminent are any presentation based on them are flawed and a fraud.

Well I mean it's mins/XGI combined with the deltas right

I.e. Darwin always gets in positions but sometimes is in form or not
