Michael Laudrup has high hopes for Danny Graham after the former Watford man racked up the pre-season goals for Swansea. Roberto Mancini reveals Emmanuel Adebayor won’t feature for City this season, Daniel Agger is keen to stay at Liverpool, Stephane Sessegnon remains a doubt for Sunderland’s trip to the Emirates, while Wigan snap up Ryo Miyaichi on loan from Arsenal:

Michael Laudrup is expecting a big season from Danny Graham after the forward’s recent scoring exploits in pre-season. The former Watford man has netted six times in his last three matches and, with a strong opening schedule for the campaign ahead, his mid-price valuation across the Fantasy games has earned him a place in many a team right now. The new Swansea boss reckons Graham should comfortably surpass last season’s debut Premier League haul of 12 – a sign of his faith in the forward’s ability and a clear indication he is content with him leading the line:

“Every day the connection between Danny and Michu looks better and better and we can expect a lot from them. I don’t know what Danny’s record is, but if he stays fit I would say he can score between 15 and 20 goals in the Premier League.”

While there are concerns about Swansesa’s ability to match their defensive output from last season, suddenly there seems to be renewed confidence in their goal-getting. Graham’s pre-season form has been eye-catching, while Michu is an option that many have considered in the hope that he can translate his La Liga goal record to the Premier League. The opener at Loftus Road could be a tough start for the Swans, but there’s no denying that things improve markedly and that they have one of the easiest openings to the season. Cover of Swansea’s attacking potential looks to be a decent option, then.

Roberto Mancini also admitted there is no way back for Emmanuel Adebayor at City for the season ahead. The Togo international had been expected to move to Spurs this summer after a hugely successful loan spell at the London outfit in 2011/12 but his allegedly extortionate wage demands have subsequently stalled any possible move so far. While he’s keen to offload the former Arsenal man, Mancini revealed he has plenty faith in the forwards who played last season – a clear hint that Edin Dzeko is set to stay, despite recent reports linking the Bosnian with a move away:

“I am sorry for him because he is here and not playing. But he has no chance of playing this season for us. It’s important for him that he can find a good solution because he scored a lot of goals last season and he’s a top striker. I hope for him he can find a good solution very quickly….I still have confidence in the four strikers. They scored 70 goals between them last season. They will all stay.”

Mancini’s options up front are set to be a key concern for Fantasy managers. There’s little doubt that we’ll see Mario Balotelli make an impression on the new season – just how he is rotated with Sergio Aguero and, in particular, Carlos Tevez, is a key concern. Edin Dzeko is another part of the equation, although Fantasy managers will be hoping he’s restricted to a cameo role. Inevitably, however, he’ll get some pitch time.

Wigan yesterday acquired the services of Arsenal’s Ryo Miyaichi on a season-long loan deal. The Japanese youngster flourished briefly during a temporary stint at Bolton last season and is immediately back under the radar of Fantasy managers due to a kind pricing across the Fantasy games – he comes in at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). With Jean Beausejour and Emmerson Boyce looking odds-on to nail down the wide roles in Wigan’s 3-4-2-1, the new boy is expected to provided plenty competition for Victor Moses and Shaun Maloney in the more advanced midfield roles and could well prove to be a prominent member of Roberto Martinez’s first-team this term if Moses’ proposed move to Chelsea goes through.

Miyaichi’s spell at Bolton drew some interest from Fantasy managers last term, who were rewarded with modest returns. The playmaker displayed plenty of creativity, however and, under Roberto Martinez, there’s every chance we’ll see that come to the fore. The departure of Moses is key to his potential – should Martinez retain the services of the former Palace man, then Miyaichi will seemingly be vying for starts with Maloney, denting the potential of both players.

Martin O’Neill has reportedly stated that full-back Phil Bardsley could be out for “a good while†with the ankle injury sustained in pre-season training. Meanwhile, the suggestion is that Stephane Sessegnon will be available for the trip to Arsenal, despite missing the pre-season programme. O’Neill will surely be concerned on his match fitness, however.

Bardsley’s absence could see John O’Shea moved to the full-back area, though Ahmed Elmohamady has been handed a role there by O’Neill in recent matches. It’s got to be said that Sunderland’s pre-season form has been simply woeful; the possible absence of Stephane Sessegnon would just compound matters and will see Martin O’Neill’s side travel to the Emirates with low confidence and bereft of a cutting edge. Short-term Fantasy investment in the Arsenal back four, with Carl Jenkinson (4.5) looking a likely starter at right-back, could be an option worth exploring, then.

O’Neill also revealed Simon Mignolet has stiff competition for a place between the posts from Kieren Westwood this season. The Belgian was the Black Cats’ first-choice in the second half of last term but Westwood has impressed his manager in pre-season and could well push for a starting berth, with O’Neill telling the local press:

“We’re really strong in goal with the two of them here – there’s good competition for places, which is great. They’re two international goalkeepers, and I’m in a good position on that score. Keiren was unlucky when he was ill, Simon came in and did wonderfully well. It has been Simon’s position since. Keiren now thinks he might get a game with Ireland, and Simon with Belgium, although he has competition there. But it’s good to have the two.”

Daniel Agger has admitted he is keen to reject the advances of City and stay at Liverpool. Having acquired Jack Rodwell at the weekend, Mancini has been keen to add the Dane to the Etihad ranks, with Agger’s versatility and ball-playing ability at the back perhaps earmarked with the recent 3-4-1-2 formation in mind but, when asked about City’s interest, the centre-half seemed determined to dig his heels in and remain at Anfield:

“No, I haven’t heard anything. That is how the club wants to do it. I would prefer to stay. I can’t imagine playing for other clubs in England. But, you never know if the club prefers to sell me.”

Agger will surely be crucial to Liverpool’s defensive output this season and there will be keen interest in their back four if we can detect Brendan Rodgers has translated his possession football to Anfield. Agger will surely be identified by Rodgers as a ball carrying centre-back, playing a similar role as Ashley Williams for Rodgers’ Swansea last term. That will ensure that Agger will be a key performer in the Sky Sports game, whilst his threat from set-plays will likely draw interest if he can stay fit and the clean sheets start flowing. Arguably, there are better options in Rodgers’ back four – certainly the full-backs Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique will start earning investment if they are to handed more advanced roles: Enrique at 6.0 looks to be the preferred option. There’s no doubt, however, that both will benefit from Agger’s stay at Anfield.

Happy with my coverage, but need to downgrade somewhere to save some £££s:

    a) N'zog > Ireland

    b) Pienaar > Gibson

    c) Pienaar > Coleman

    d) Vertonghen > Kaboul

    e) Vertonghen > Dawson

They all have risks, Cazorla looks an interesting prospect but I'm just concerned about rotation, that said it does give you additional arsenal coverage. VDV Will play further forward if fit, that's a big if though. Siggy will Play further forward if VDV doesn't play again a big if. That said Siggy will get a decent amount of set piece action and is likely to be nailed on even if not in the hole, for that reason id go Siggy.

Question.. in a 3-5-2 who is more suited for the 3 at the back? 2 CB's and a LB/RB? or one CB, 1 RB and 1 LB? All of us so sure that lescott is nailed on may find city with zab/rich kompany clichy at the back

Inter hope to have a decision by Thursday from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy as regards signing keeper Julio Cesar. Possible exchange deal, with either Lennon or Sandro - in both of whom Inter have expressed an interest - going the other way.

    http://www.quotidianamente.net/sport/calcio/calciomercato-inter-su-alvaro-pereira-ramirez-assalto-inglese-35822.html

Hugo Lloris looks increasingly unlikely to sign for Spurs though, as Lyon have a slapped a €20 million transfer fee on their keeper in order to warn off potential purchasers.

your midfield is too expensive for me & defence to cheap.
Petric is a gamble, but why not if you want to go for a cheap striker.
Noble & Maloney, safest options at that price, otherwise you would be gambling on the likes of el-Ghanassay

As for my expensive midfield---> Mata during gw 3 could become a 6.5mill midfielder---> I can upgrade Petric to either Bent or Jelavic 😉
        + The extra .5 could go for a Keeper/defender 🙂

I'm glad I started a while ago. It's taken me 2 weeks to polish my team to the point where I'm happy.

      - Decide on your favoured keeper approach - De Gea + [no-one important] or rotation
      - Decide on your favoured defensive approach - mega-cheapie; 2 big + 3 way rotation; 1 big + 2x2 rotation etc
      - Decide what you want to do about Chelsea's DGW, bearing in mind that they have a blank GW3
      - Decide what you want to do about the City striker conundrum
      - Fill in the blanks around that with some of the mid-price value around: Michu, Pienaar, N'Zogbia, Graham, Sinclair, Petric, McClean

How do we think United will line-up? I guess lots of us want to know how and/or whether we'll see Cleverley/Kagawa feature in the midfield this season.

With Rafael at the Olympics, Phil Jones with a back injury, Smalling out for 3 months, Valencia was the filler at RB. While he did a reasonable job I don't expect him to continue there unless such shortages bring us back there. Rafael will more than likely jump straight back in my opinion and rightly so. This would more than likely give our defensive back 4 as:

    Rafael Rio Vidic Evra

Evans may also be contender for Rio's spot I'd guess with his injury constantly being updated to the fans in alignment with the Everton game. I'd prefer Rio but we'll see, that should see your attention steer away from him despite the 6.0 price.

I think judging from Pre-season that DDG is the more likely keeper to start behind this 4 but Lindegaard will remain a constant threat so I'd think twice about picking him even at that 6.0 price tag.

Now the midfield will be slightly different with Valencia almost certainly nailing the RW which leaves Nani and Young fighting for the left. I think again judging from pre-season performances we can assume that Nani will take the LW for the moment, with Young dropping to the bench. With Moura now gone to PSG I think we'll most likely see Nani offered a new contract (however due to the delay caused it remains to be seen whether he'll sign it or not...).

Now we have Scholes, Carrick (moving from CB now which was only temporary, although he did well), Kagawa, Cleverley (fresh from team GB and a good game vs Hannover) and Anderson all fighting for what is seemingly 2 to 3 spots on the pitch with Rooney taking up the guaranteed last place.

With Kagawa and Cleverley impressing in the pre-season you'd expect in an easier PL game for them to be given a chance to play with Rooney with perhaps Carrick next to Cleverley and Kagawa in the hole behind Rooney, with Cleverley and Anderson switching from the bench. I'd most like to see this but of course Welbeck also needs gametime alongside this with the seemingly endless talent of Scholes. So in my opinion we'll either line up like:

    ________DDG________
    __Rafael Rio Vidic Evra___
    Cleverley/Anderson Carrick
    _Valencia Kagawa* Nani_
    _______Rooney________

    or

    _______DDG______
    Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
    __Scholes Carrick__
    Valencia Welbeck* Nani
______Rooney_____ *Should be a little further forward but can't be a*sed to move them.

At the moment unless Kagawa is going to play a little deeper in the Scholes position which he has dropped back to with others pushing forward, I can't see us starting any other way.

This is all of course ignoring RVP which would change things even further, but for now this is all I can see. I think even in the latter formation Kagawa will definitely get gametime. I'd expect 30+ games out of him this season especially with how well he and Rooney have been linking up. Anyway this is long enough so I'll shut up.

I'd expect Kagawa against the stronger opposition whilst Kagawa vs the stronger oppositions where we need more ability to hold that ball.

Don't think Lindegaard will take as many starts off De Gea as he did last season. DDG's the rightful no.1 and had a storming 2nd half of the season. He's arguably the best value keeper in the game, at best i can see Lindegaard playing 5-6 games. No such rotation occurs there with Chelsea, City, or Arsenal. So it shouldn't really with us.

Agree on Kagawa, think he'll be a big player. If RVP signs though, i can't see him getting as much game time with Rooney + RVP being the preferred front 2. Would see Nani and Young starting on the wing more than him. Also he may play deeper at CM but shouldn't be ahead of Cleverley or Anderson though, as his attacking talents are wasted there. I can see him being useful from the bench too. Also RVP signing would mean Rooney can be dropped when he goes through his patchy spells of form. He's not a natural finisher so it takes him longer than others to find form after a lean spell (apart from pens),.. RVP would make Rooney realise that he's not undroppable. Agree on defence. All in all... good post.

Cool, one to monitor then. If RVP goes could always go a.cole > rafael torres > rvp after the double. That would give the extra mill needed for rvp, although I think if RVP does go it will be a deadline day deal.

I'd tend to agree a lot, nice write up btw ,
I think Rvp will determine the final line up if he comes ,
Tbh outside of Rooney/Valencia and Vera it looks a minefield IMO.

Anyone else goin Lamps and Mata double in midfield rather than Torres upfront? Apart from Bale no one really stands out in midfield in the luxury bracket. By GW 3 i'm sure 2 of Val/Kag/Siggy/VDV/Cazorla/Gerrard will look temptin. With Graham acting as a faux heavy hitter upfront first 8 weeks(5 home games) and Tevez, Aguero, Rooney etc lookin brilliant options maybe swappin out lamps.and mata rather than torres seems the way to go

I see a lot of people worried that the 2 mil to change Torres -> Rooney plan is going to backfire, due to price rises.

So people with a frontline of Aguero/Tevez - Torres - Graham etc with 2mil in the bank.

Perhaps a safer option could be to start with a frontline of Tevez - Rooney - Torres, and then downgrade Torres to Graham or a similiar budget option in week 2, and use the extra 4mil to upgrade your midfield in week 2/3 to get another big hitter that has started well?

This way there is no risk of missing out on Rooney GW2, and you can have 1 or 2 weeks to see which midfield big hitter you want.

Just my thoughts on this issue

+1 - we will only really know who to get rid of after GW1, but that was my plan. Going to start GW1 with Tevez/Rooney/Torres - then will probably downgrade Torres to Graham and upgrade McLean to Nani.
