Welcome to Eliteserien Fantasy 2024! It’s brilliant to see so many newcomers to the game, so I thought I’d try to put together a beginner’s guide of sorts to help get you oriented. Just bear in mind that I am very much included in the ‘beginner’ bracket myself…

I won’t spend much time covering the game format here as it should be immediately familiar to FPL players, with just a few twists on the chips:

  • ‘Attack! Attack!’ – double points for all your forwards
  • ‘Rich Uncle’ – a free hit chip with unlimited budget for that Gameweek
  • The self-explanatory ‘Two Captains’

The main aim of this article is to provide a basic orientation with Eliteserien’s top (and bottom) clubs and an overview of the initial schedule, which features early blanks and doubles.

BOOKIES’ ODDS TO WIN TITLE

So, first up, let’s have a look at the odds of winning the title this season, to give a rough idea of the expected hierarchy:

  1. Bodø/Glimt 2.15
  2. Molde 4.00
  3. Brann 4.50
  4. Viking 15
  5. Rosenborg 21
  6. Lillestrøm 25
  7. Sarpsborg 30
  8. Tromsø 100
  9. Odd 150
  10. Strømsgodset 150
  11. Haugesund 300
  12. HamKam 300
  13. Fredrikstad 300
  14. Sandefjord 300
  15. Kristiansund 500
  16. KFUM Oslo 750

Bodø/Glimt and Molde, fresh off their European adventures during the offseason for Norway, occupy the top two spots. A Bodø/Glimt victory would secure their fourth title in the last five seasons, while Molde won in 2022 & 2019.

Brann have had a much more turbulent recent history: third in 2018, relegated to the First Division in 2021, promoted in 2022 and second on their return to the Eliteserien last year.

Of the three promoted sides, minnows KFUM Oslo are making their first-ever appearance in the Eliteserien and this is clearly reflected by the bookies’ odds. Kristiansund return after just one season in the First Division, while Fredrikstad are fancied to be a slight cut above at joint 11th.

FIXTURE DIFFICULTY

Next, let’s have a look at a fixture ticker for the first eight Gameweeks (source: https://www.viewfantasystats.com/eliteserien/fdr-planner/)

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The predicted top three – Bodø, Molde and Brann – also sit atop the fixture ticker for the opening eight Gameweeks.

A Double Gameweek 3 for Brann and Molde, aligned with appealing fixtures before and after, makes these two clubs an excellent place to begin your draft. If your initial strategy is to attack the Double Gameweek, you might also want to consider supplementing Brann & Molde double/triple-ups with the mid-priced options from Odd and HamKam.

EARLY CHIP?

The early Double Gameweek also presents an opportunity to deploy one of your chips. Since Molde and Brann players are quite expensive, Rich Uncle could be an option to enable a frontline that includes last season’s top scorer Bård Finne (BRA, 11.5m) and Molde talisman Fredrik Gulbrandsen (11m).

Alternatively, ‘Rich Uncle’ could be held for Double Gameweek 10, which includes Bodø, Brann, Rosenborg and Tromsø.

‘Attack! Attack!’ is another option for Double Gameweek 3, as the current template frontline appears to be Finne, Gulbrandsen and Kirkevold (HAM, 6m). Odd forward Børven (7.5m) looks a promising alternative to Kirkevold if you want to triple up on doublers. Viking’s Salvesen (8.5m) has been banging in preseason, although tough fixtures Bodø and Brann in GWs 2 & 3 may be slightly off-putting.

ATTACK V DEFENCE

As always, when using a fixture ticker with just one colour per game, it’s worth considering where defensive difficulty and attacking difficulty are flattened.

To help identify the teams which might be, for example, a good fixture for your attackers but a bad fixture for your defenders, I’ve also put together a colour-coded chart of goals and goals conceded last season:

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The left-hand column presents the team in order of goals conceded to highlight fixture difficulty for attackers, while the right-hand column orders teams by goals scored as a metric for defensive fixture difficulty.

It’s worth noting that Viking and Sarpsborg 08 look like quite appealing fixtures for your attackers but much less so for your defenders. At the opposite extreme, Haugesund and Strømsgodset appear to be pretty solid defences but struggle in attack.

WHERE TO FIND STATS

As for the players, I’m far from the level of familiarity required to write a comprehensive watchlist. However, the official Fantasy site does allow you to sort by goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus points etc, which can be supplemented by further data from sites like Transfermarkt and Whoscored.

I’ve also come across a massively helpful pre-season minutes tracker here (it also notes goals and assists).

COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

That’s pretty much it from me.

I’ll just conclude with a couple of mini-leagues to join (thanks to Mullered in Maenam and Mince N Tatties for running these):

See you below the line!

Rich Uncle chip meant I ditched Fischer, Eriksen and Valsvik this week and brought in S Molde, Finne and Dynge. What a shambles thankfully last minute decided to keep Tripic. I’d rather there weren’t any of these chips to play.

The chips are really good to be honest , it's just a crazy start to the season with injuries , red cards and result upsets also big players not performing with some strange team selections caused by nursing players back which most of us are not aware of .
Your season will improve just keep the faith .

It'll be interesting to see who takes the next B/G penalty. Hauge a bit out of favour for minutes tonight is a surprise, though. He played very well in the last game.

Welcome to our lair. Still trying to figure this out myself but it sounds like teams involved in European qualifiers (B/G, BRA, MOL, TIL) will have further doubles, probably somewhere in the mid 20s (GWs)

Can someone please clear this up reference transfers in the Euro 2024 game
    Here's what the website says
    Phase Number of free transfers
    Before tournament starts Unlimited
During group stage 2 per matchday
    Before round of 16 Unlimited
    Before quarter-finals 3
    Before semi-finals 4
    Before final 5
Note that it says "During the group stage 2 per matchday "
All other transfers are listed as "before"
My interpretation of this is that once matchday 1 starts (12 games) you have 2 transfers to make within that matchday
Likewise for matchdays 2 & 3 giving 6 transfers during the group stage .
I would expect that if you transfer out within a matchday a player who has already played you lose his points
And only keep the points for the players in your final 11 at the end of the matchday
I have emailed Euro 2024 FF to clarify this but I am waiting a reply

Don't think so. Check the "deadlines" section:

"Every matchday, teams will lock as soon as the first game within the matchday match kicks off."

Then it gives you deadline times. There's 3 matchdays within the group stage.

So you're saying matchday 1 transfers will only be available at the start of matchday 2
What happens to matchday 3 transfers if you can only use them after the matchday has finished when you get unlimited transfers anyway ?
Subs can be made before the start of the first game each day
But it doesn't state when you can use your matchday transfers

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years

So you get 2 FTs at the start of MD2 (before Croatia v Albania), and 2 at the start of MD3. Can roll 1 FT from MD2 into MD3 (to have 3 FTs), but there's no point rolling your MD3 transfers because you get unlimited transfers before the start of the knockout rounds.

Subs can actually be made within the MD. So e.g. if Wirtz blanks & you have Foden on the bench, you can sub Wirtz off for Foden after Wirtz has played but before Foden plays.

Obviously this makes your bench strategy very different from FPL. Make sure you have players whose fixture falls near the end of the MD on your bench. And ideally avoid unplayable fodder

So only 4 free transfers during the group stage not 6
Matchday 1 transfers only available at the start of matchday 2

              • 4 Years

Seems ok, yeah. I'm not a massive Tveter fan but their DGW fixtures are decent and it still seems to be slim pickings with the forwards (so maybe good to shift funds to midfield). I was losing patience with Høgh too

Yes that's the added benefit funds into midfield or even a few expensive defenders if any emerge. The forwards poor this year had Salv all season and he's been just steady but not spectacular.

Beginning to feel like a template game in that my sensible enough WC contains around 8 players who are starred for being in the team of the season and I could almost certainly stretch to a few more and still have cash itb. Guess this is the point where it all goes left field 😉

    Currently on

    Gunnarson (Fischer)
Gundersen Norheim Tomasson Stenevik (Stray Molde)
    Wolff Eriksen Groenbak Tripic Tewelde
    Salvesen (Nunez, Racaj)

Imagining that 5 of front 6 are pretty much universal.

Starting with those 3 premium mids is definitely the way to go imo and will hopefully give us an edge over those continuing with loads of money up top.

I'm starting regret my 4.4m fwd a little bit with all the blanks coming up - wish I'd stretched to Pape Guèye who's always a lively watch if not the most clinical. But he has gone up a few clicks now & maybe with a fresh WC & 5 atb you can manage with a dead spot.

I still prefer the FFK mids to Tewelde if only because Odd have generally been struggling in attack, or Siversen/Ørjasæter if you can stretch any further.

Also I've been checking up some of the friendlies during the break & Gulbrandsen was MIA (flagged again now) so Molde may well have Eriksen partnering Eikrem up top again (he notched a goal & assist in their friendly)

      1. Moderately content penguin
        • 6 Years

        More template thinking 😉

I just took Sivertsen for Tewelde but really no firm idea for that spot and it's a toss up between Nunez and Gueye up top. Could reach both with some minor trimming elsewhere but scars of Kirkewold are recent enough not to want an extra forward.

            Yep - on the radar

Can actually get him from Salvesen and something to be said for having money up top for the just in case scenario.

See that Groenbak smells - hadn't seen that before. Agent Mentaculus on the case I hope.

Definitely prefer Nuñez if you're only taking one of those two. Guess I don't have a ton of off-template ideas til we get rolling again, but Markovic (1% owned) could be worth a whirl for the Sandefjord DGW - lost his competition from Al-Saed now.

In isolation who scores more points this week Wolf away at Tromso or Markovic and his DGW ?

Seems sensible to go for Wolf but a bit boring. They are replacing injured Bloomberg.

Like both options but still not really convinced by Tromso defence & Eikrem looked fantastic before the break

Same here; don't really want to sell Fischer or take a hit for a backup keeper. Between Tripic/Eikrem for (K)

My thoughts too , at least I've got one double game week player Nordas if starts both .

Kristiansund v Sandefjord (GW15) has been postponed to 5th October. Both sides will blank GW15 and double GW24.

Kristiansund v Fredrikstad (next week) also moves forward one day, but has no fantasy effect (I think)

Could be worth targeting KBK if they're effectively not playing at home for a while.

Yeah I think so. FFK game will be played in Molde. It's a factor for me in keeping 3x FFK

Norheim & Nordas in for Hoseth & Saeter for me. Going Nordas K.

Looked at Nordas K but didn't like the Mol game so gone Wolf think more upside especially with Til leaking defence.

    35mins to Eliteserien resumption.

Taken a -4 to get 10 out (if Grønbæk & Høgh start...)

    (No GK)
    Gundersen Sery Simenstad Tómasson
    Eikrem (K) Grønbæk Tripic Eriksen
    Høgh Nuñez
    (Fischer, Stray Molde, Sørløkk)

    GL everyone

Think I would have left that anyway with your squad too rather than take a hit. Not really keen on Sandefjord/Tromsø GKs after this week. DGW coming up for Selvik in 18

Glad I set myself up well for this GW before the break. Challenging fixtures to navigate soon. Žugelj and Løvik → Markovic and Norheim. Markovic looking the best he's done in years, worth the armband with Al-Saed gone. Always a danger going without Tripic but can't get to him without losing someone good and wouldn't be surprised if Ruud Tveter gets a double hat-trick here before blanking for 10 weeks.

    Haugaard
    R Norheim, Gundersen, Soltvedt
    Markovic (K), Ottosson, Eriksen, Gronbæk
    Nuñez, Salvesen, Finne

Just Crone on the bench, hoping that's enough.
