Welcome to Eliteserien Fantasy 2024! It’s brilliant to see so many newcomers to the game, so I thought I’d try to put together a beginner’s guide of sorts to help get you oriented. Just bear in mind that I am very much included in the ‘beginner’ bracket myself…

I won’t spend much time covering the game format here as it should be immediately familiar to FPL players, with just a few twists on the chips:

  • β€˜Attack! Attack!’ – double points for all your forwards
  • β€˜Rich Uncle’ – a free hit chip with unlimited budget for that Gameweek
  • The self-explanatory β€˜Two Captains’

The main aim of this article is to provide a basic orientation with Eliteserien’s top (and bottom) clubs and an overview of the initial schedule, which features early blanks and doubles.

BOOKIES’ ODDS TO WIN TITLE

So, first up, let’s have a look at the odds of winning the title this season, to give a rough idea of the expected hierarchy:

  1. BodΓΈ/Glimt 2.15
  2. Molde 4.00
  3. Brann 4.50
  4. Viking 15
  5. Rosenborg 21
  6. LillestrΓΈm 25
  7. Sarpsborg 30
  8. TromsΓΈ 100
  9. Odd 150
  10. StrΓΈmsgodset 150
  11. Haugesund 300
  12. HamKam 300
  13. Fredrikstad 300
  14. Sandefjord 300
  15. Kristiansund 500
  16. KFUM Oslo 750

BodΓΈ/Glimt and Molde, fresh off their European adventures during the offseason for Norway, occupy the top two spots. A BodΓΈ/Glimt victory would secure their fourth title in the last five seasons, while Molde won in 2022 & 2019.

Brann have had a much more turbulent recent history: third in 2018, relegated to the First Division in 2021, promoted in 2022 and second on their return to the Eliteserien last year.Β Β

Of the three promoted sides, minnows KFUM Oslo are making their first-ever appearance in the Eliteserien and this is clearly reflected by the bookies’ odds. Kristiansund return after just one season in the First Division, while Fredrikstad are fancied to be a slight cut above at joint 11th.

FIXTURE DIFFICULTY

Next, let’s have a look at a fixture ticker for the first eight Gameweeks (source: https://www.viewfantasystats.com/eliteserien/fdr-planner/)

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The predicted top three – BodΓΈ, Molde and Brann – also sit atop the fixture ticker for the opening eight Gameweeks.

A Double Gameweek 3 for Brann and Molde, aligned with appealing fixtures before and after, makes these two clubs an excellent place to begin your draft. If your initial strategy is to attack the Double Gameweek, you might also want to consider supplementing Brann & Molde double/triple-ups with the mid-priced options from Odd and HamKam.Β

EARLY CHIP?

The early Double Gameweek also presents an opportunity to deploy one of your chips. Since Molde and Brann players are quite expensive, Rich Uncle could be an option to enable a frontline that includes last season’s top scorer BΓ₯rd Finne (BRA, 11.5m) and Molde talisman Fredrik Gulbrandsen (11m).

Alternatively, β€˜Rich Uncle’ could be held for Double Gameweek 10, which includes BodΓΈ, Brann, Rosenborg and TromsΓΈ.

β€˜Attack! Attack!’ is another option for Double Gameweek 3, as the current template frontline appears to be Finne, Gulbrandsen and Kirkevold (HAM, 6m). Odd forward BΓΈrven (7.5m) looks a promising alternative to Kirkevold if you want to triple up on doublers. Viking’s Salvesen (8.5m) has been banging in preseason, although tough fixtures BodΓΈ and Brann in GWs 2 & 3 may be slightly off-putting.Β

ATTACK V DEFENCE

As always, when using a fixture ticker with just one colour per game, it’s worth considering where defensive difficulty and attacking difficulty are flattened.

To help identify the teams which might be, for example, a good fixture for your attackers but a bad fixture for your defenders, I’ve also put together a colour-coded chart of goals and goals conceded last season:

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The left-hand column presents the team in order of goals conceded to highlight fixture difficulty for attackers, while the right-hand column orders teams by goals scored as a metric for defensive fixture difficulty.

It’s worth noting that Viking and Sarpsborg 08 look like quite appealing fixtures for your attackers but much less so for your defenders. At the opposite extreme, Haugesund and StrΓΈmsgodset appear to be pretty solid defences but struggle in attack.

WHERE TO FIND STATS

As for the players, I’m far from the level of familiarity required to write a comprehensive watchlist. However, the official Fantasy site does allow you to sort by goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus points etc, which can be supplemented by further data from sites like Transfermarkt and Whoscored.

I’ve also come across a massively helpful pre-season minutes tracker here (it also notes goals and assists).

COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

That’s pretty much it from me.

I’ll just conclude with a couple of mini-leagues to join (thanks to Mullered in Maenam and Mince N Tatties for running these):

See you below the line!

Glad I didn't WC into Mikkelsen/Sjøvold in the end as Glimt had a big reshuffle when Wembangomo picked up an injury (not sure on the timeframe details yet but 25% in the game). Sjøvold moved from RW to RB, Mikkelsen LW to RW and Hauge came on at LW.

Didn't Mikkelsen then go off early at half time and a right back brought on to replace him?

Yes! Sort of. When Määttä came on last week he played at RW, but he is listed as a RB on transfermarkt. Will have to check highlights/replay to see which roles Sjøvold/Määttä had in 2nd half actually

Reports of Sæter picking up a knock in training on Wednesday, but he said in an interview yesterday that he "is ready" for Tromsø. Article also discussed rumours of Molde's interest in buying him:

Bodø/Glimt, Molde, Brann & Tromsø all won their European qualifiers. I'm seeing a lot of speculation that all 4 will blank in GW20 and double in 23. Still unconfirmed, but provisionally I would plan for all the following fixtures to move to GW23:
    B/G v S08
    LSK v TIL
    BRA v KFUM
    MOL v HAM

Rich Uncle played? Looks like an RU, or deadend 20 & WC21 scenario to me. I'll have 8 players for GW20 (after using FT this week) so will probably aim for the latter option

Seems like Nordås was ill after last night's game:

"Nordås passed the press zone not too long after the end of the match. He politely declined an interview because he didn't feel quite right in his stomach.

    - I have to go home now, so I don't infect anyone, said Nordås as he quickly walked up the stairs"

Bullet dodged there. Are you keeping your flagged players & Molde?

Got rid of Eikrem, thinking of doubling the same for Eriksen but will probably need both next gw.
Nuñez & SSM only flagged players in my team atm.

Sold Eikrem for Saltnes last week. Just benching Eriksen. Don't know much about Stray Molde flag except that he's been in alternative training this week; starting him anyway. Nuñez was expected back this week but haven't seen any specific updates since (I also sold him last week for TLO).

Going with this (Nordås- Meister with my FT):
        Fischer
        Stray Molde Tómasson Gundersen
        Saltnes (V) Sørløkk Ørjasæter Nypan
        Meister (K) TLO Sæter
        (Thomas, Simenstad, Bjørkan, Eriksen)

      Just catching up...

Kristiansund v Molde has officially moved to 18th September. So that'll be BGW19 & DGW22 for both.

      https://x.com/Molde_FK/status/1820829361303363676

We should find out about GW20 by next Friday. Provisionally, Glimt/Molde/Brann/Tromsø would all blank if they continue to progress in their European qualifiers. Glimt would have a DGW23, while the others would have DGW22 (unclear if Molde would have a TGW or if the HamKam fixture would move elsewhere). Currently looking good for all 4 to progress with 1st leg scores:

      Jagiellonia Bialystok 0-1 Bodø/Glimt

      Molde 3-0 Cercle Brugge

      Kilmarnock 2-2 Tromsø

      St Mirren 1-1 Brann

Good chance that Nuñez is back for Rosenborg apparently. If I weren't locked into Sæter/TLO/Meister for the DGW (and Attack! chip) I'd probably be buying him back this week.

Tbh I haven't really been watching much of Haugesund & Tounekti wasn't really on my radar. Don't really fancy their attack against HamKam & (especially) Fredrikstad. I'm going without any Haugesund but I'd be more interested in their defence if anything (Hope/Selvik)

Got the same AAA lined up. Having some doubts about it tbh with LSK looking really poor lately and TLO ghosting through the last couple games since injury. But I had a scan forward for alternatives and I just don't see many better options. Nordås, Finne + 1 in the (likely) TIL/BRA DGW22 might be an option but Brann aren't exactly firing either & TLO/Sæter still seem more reliable goalscorers than the Bard

Looks about right to me. Åsen has been LSK's standout performer the last few weeks imo. Quite like Vá too but he was sacrificed yesterday in the switch to a wing back formation and I can't be sure if that was just for Molde or something they'll continue (did look a bit more solid defensively than with a back 4).

Nypan was unusually quiet yesterday & subbed early but was looking in good form previously. Not sure about Tangvik but there doesn't really seem to be a standout 3rd RBK pick (I'm sticking with just Sæter & Nypan).

Tromsø defence have tightened up massively of late so it's a close call betwen Nuñez & Meister but I absolutely love Nuñez so don't mind picking him with any fixture (and can't wait to get him back on WC).

Of the SGW options, I like that double HamKam defence & would avoid FFK v Brann. Sarpsborg & Viking attackers still good options I think. I'm tempted by a punt on Sander Svendsen but will keep an eye out during the week for news on Salvesen's fitness

Thank you for an amazing respond. I might just stick with my team then

If it gets you 11 players you're probably on for a green arrow this week

      Yikes

Have been flying by the seat of my pants for a few weeks now. This'll need some form of chip or at least a minus 8.

Need to do some belated research into fixtures
