We’re now in the final few days before the Premier League campaign kicks off, which means it’s not long until our initial EPL Unlimited squads are locked in.

As this season-long FanTeam competition comes without a team budget, managers can build a dream team of current stars. No debating whether to start with Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah or both.

While tinkering with drafts, we started thinking out loud: if we had the luxury of creating an all-time Fantasy XI, who would make the cut?

Ten minutes later, this was created.

FanTeam: Creating an All-Time XI with EPL Unlimited

Building this squad was a nostalgic thrill. It’s not every day you get to put together the perfect team, unrestricted by player pricing.

Of course, trying to squeeze in Leighton Baines as a makeshift centre-back raised a few eyebrows, but who could resist the temptation to pack in more set-piece potential? Although our front line practically picked itself, the midfield was a battlefield of legends.

FanTeam all-time XI breakdown

  • Forwards: The combination of Thierry Henry and Haaland is a Fantasy manager’s…. well, fantasy. With several historical scoring records shared between them, it’s hard to argue against their inclusion.
  • Midfield: Meanwhile, gathering Salah, Frank Lampard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Son Heung-min together represents the best in creativity and goal-scoring prowess from midfield.
  • Defence: It’s a 4-4-2 formation here. Baines, John Terry and current Liverpool duo Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were known not only for their defensive solidity but also for their attacking contributions. Essential qualities for the Fantasy world.
  • Goalkeeper: For both Chelsea and Arsenal, Petr Cech was a rock between the posts and racked up clean sheets year after year. He currently holds the record for Premier League shut-outs.

But enough about the past – let’s bring ourselves back to the present. FanTeam’s EPL Unlimited game gives you the chance to draft your ultimate XI for 2024/25, with the twist being that there will be no budget restrictions.

Managers also receive a weekly free transfer, alongside a captain’s armband and the option of Wildcard activation.

Whether you want to stack your team with current superstars or take a gamble on up-and-coming talent, the possibilities are endless.

Quite similar to mine, so I'm inclined to like it

I've got Foden (Jota GW1) + Eze + Munoz in place of Saka + ESR + Saliba, as I want that City attacking spot. I'm comfortable with just two premium defenders, with Trent probably becoming an Arsenal defender in GW6 or so

My bench is Virginia Barco Winks Johnson

I don't think you need 2*4.5m def with Gabriel/Porro/TAA set and forget.

Change Turner (3rd choice) to lower owned GK, reduce the risk of a price drop

I think ESR + Wood have looked more convincing than MGW + Muniz, but maybe that's just my preseason form bias

Looks like a rotating squad of outfielders, all with good fixtures... I'd prefer picking a steady starting XI, skinning the bench down to nailed cheap guys, and then making upgrades where they seem useful... Or just bank the cash for early transfers

      1. Mid-Table Obscurity

I want to start with a better quality bench to potentially make use of the ability to stack transfers. I was also burnt a bit at the beginning of last season by putting all my money into my first 11 and random benchings (eg gabriel) causing 4-4.5 players on my bench coming into the team way more than expected. The first option I would rotate options a lot more, but the second I would keep smith Rowe as first sub most weeks

Thanks for your replies! Agreed, the bench is weak, but with any luck the first eleven carries it. I think the biggest issue is the lack of a 10M spot which makes moving to one of those players a bit more difficult, but I am happy starting the season with this team.

Know this is very light in defence, but tempting, since CS were hard to get last year. Great opening fixtures for mids, and good possibilities to downgrade mids to fund defs in the coming weeks.

Not seeing many (any) Everton players. Given Branthwaite, Pickford and DCL are all well priced, are you all assuming they're no go's even with their fixtures over the first 10 or so?

Tim Iroegbunam looks a decent 5th MF option at 4.5m and will likely start in the Onana role + Ndaiye (5.5m) could be a dark horse assuming he get's minutes displacing a v. out of sorts Doucouré...

    Thoughts? Avoid and wait? Punt?

(no really tricky fixture till 7th Dec aside from Villa away in Sept)

Pickford should be 4.5 and are both overpriced imho when you compare with previous seasons and comparative keep prices. Same could be said for Branthwaite, while DCL is an injury waiting to happen. Iroegbunan is an interesting pick however and one for the watchlist.

Branthwaite was top 4 defender last season. Pickford top keeper?

Agree DCL is injury waiting to happen - but if he finds any form all at 6.0m he's a bargain.

Mykolenko is solid at 4.5 - don’t see the 5.0s being significantly better.

Irogebunam is slightly more exciting than Winks but Everton do have lots of midfield options.

Myko delivery still not good enough. Tark/Jarrad offer attacking threat from set pieces — which is arguably better with Lindstrøm.

Everton are a bit weak in that CMF role IMO. Gueye is aging and will need rotation / somewhat injury prone. Garner confidence player who blows hot and cold. I think Tim will end up being mainstay of their middle and looks very comfortable on ball.

I saw an Everton fan saying they were looking dodgy. It put me off mykolenko tbs

Watched highlights of their last two preseason. Looked v.sharp at times. Think they could surprise.

If going with rotating 4.5m defenders, Mykolenko rotates well with Andersen. Gives BRI / WHM / BOU / LEI for first 4 fixtures.

Raya May well get the most points but I don’t see any reason to spend more than 4.5.

Well I want all these defences Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle 4 out of 5 playing each week, atm its

        Raya
        Gvardiol Porro Quansah Hall Barco

Depends on strategy? Set + forget? Or going heavy on fixtures out of the gate with WC planned?

Raya is best over season probably but Arsenal do have two tough away games in first 4-5 games.

Sure one of them is the NLD and expect no CS there but Arteta v Pep tends to boring games, CS isn't out the question

    Morning. Any thoughts on:

    A - ESR and Wood (+ 1.0)
    B - MGW and Munoz

I am admiring your morning Wood, but careful you don't get an ESR.

      Being serious I prefer A.

    Pope (Fab)
    Gabriel Porro Munoz (Robinson Mosquera)
    Saka Jota Bobb Eze (Smith-Rowe)
    Haaland (c) Isak Solanke

My dilemma is defence where if I downgrade pope/Munoz I can afford Trent? So it’s almost there..

    Thoughts?

I'm currently leaning Gabriel over Gvardiol. Arsenal players are ready for a quick start and suffocate teams with high press

Whats the deal with Brighton GK's? Is it Steel or Verbruggen?

Steele but only until Verbruggen returns from injury - I think the latest estimate is early September.
