Would you start Henderson (WHU) or Sels (sou)? Was surprised by how vulnerable Palace looked against Brentford.

There hasn't been a clean sheet in the last 15 games between Palace and West Ham, and it's been even longer since Palace have kept one against West Ham

Which one of Man City's £5.5m defenders is most nailed?
Akanji or Ruben Dias feel safest but once Stones and Walker come back into the mix who knows.

Yeah I agree, i've gone with Ederson for safety and made adjustments to get Robertson as a premium defender instead.

Just like last season, I'd suggest skipping City defenders who lack attacking threat. Ederson will need many clean sheets to match even 4.5 GKs in this age of save points

Ake, Akanji, Dias and Stones all vying for CB spots.

Cancelo needs to start games before being considered.

Currently I think Walker is unlikely to start GW2 imo, beyond that I have no idea

Why the heavens is Joao Pedro at third sub behind Barco and Johnson? Hopefully just the way you formatted it while typing?

Roll FT. Salah (C) is good enough, imo. And you're trying to sell known ballers for hits. This looks like pure FOMO

The only reasonable way to get Haaland this week is to ditch Salah and Isak for a -4. You're then looking at a £6m midfielder, but you've lost two of your best players. Alternatively shop for a £5m midfielder and do Solanke to Haaland.

These sorts of decisions prove that Haaland for £15m was a masterstroke by the game designers.

    8. Pumpkinhead
      • 11 Years

Haaland will probably get a bunch of points but if you *needed him gw2 you should have started with him. The -8 will even out any progress you made by not having him this week.

How many points are you expecting Haaland to get to warrant a -8? Not to mention losing the points your sold players would get.

GW2 is Haalands highest predicted points in any single GW this season

If he gets a brace, which doesnt sound unrealistic and the captain others goes with blanks that is a difference of 22 points, which is massive at this time of the season.

Taken on board previous advice and rejigged my BB1WC2 team to this...
    Ederson
    TAA, Robertson, Robinson
    Son(vc), Jota, Doku, ESR
    Haaland(c), Isak, Solanke
    (Bentley, Nedeljković, Greaves, Sangare)

The good thing about that back 3 is the fixtures allow you to start them all for the next 5 game weeks so doesn't matter about having 2 x £4.0m subs.

        What do you mean?
I thought I planned it well for the next 5 game weeks (fixture wise) and will then have 5 x FT to do mini-WC if needed.
There's only a couple of tricky matches in this run and I feel the players I have in these could be 'fixture proof' ie Son.

Of course... Just me being thick. No-one's going to get injured over the next 5 weeks (including the IB) so your 5 transfers are safe in Fort Knox 🙂

If someone's injured, he can use a FT tbf. And do a "mini-WC if needed" with fewer than 5 players, ya know, if needed.

So you are saying my choices are bold because it is possible that someone could get injured? That doesn't make sense. Any player could get injured, it's completely random and unpredictable. How on earth are you selecting your players?!

Bold because someone could get injured while you have a bum bench tbf. You two are not having a productive discussion!

Touchy! I didn't slag off your strategy, I called it 'bold' which it is. We all select our squads differently, personally I like to build in a bit of a back up as this game as you quite rightly say is random & occasionally cruel. A game over 38 weeks is not a sprint which your strategy 'appears' to be. If you don't want the community to comment on your choices it's quite simple, don't post them.

      I think it's a bit too reliant on GW1:

Ederson with a rare save point. Robinson didn't concede as many goals as he should have. Matty Cash hasn't been confirmed injured in the local press, so we might not see Nedeljković just yet (Mosquera is safer). Far too early to confirm Jota is nailed. Doku's even worse in that aspect, as Grealish only missed out on an expected start to the season due to a knock.

ESR... Why? Solanke is Ange's striker: that's your Spurs (C)/(VC) in good fixtures, imo. I'd take Gordon + Eze in those Son + ESR spots instead. I'd rather be 2 or 3 GWs late to a 5.0 Palmer than 6 GWs early to Bailey/Neto. Steady Eddies are more reliable since you'll have a max of 5 FTs to fix stuff after the WC's flushed away

Ederson Robbo Robinson Doku to Pope Gvardiol Munoz Mitoma/Bilva for me

      1. LangerznMash
        • 9 Years

        Thanks for you reasoning.
I am looking short term as previous long term planning failed for me.
I'm on Ederson as I think he could keep 5 CS in next 8 GWs and probably pick up save points in the tricky fixtures against Arsenal+Newcastle. I probably would have preferred Sanchez at £4.5m for value but no guarantee he remains Chelsea's #1

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 7 Years
          1 year, 3 months ago

That's why I led with the rarity of Ederson's GW1 save point and bonus: even in harder fixtures last season, it was rare to see Ederson make 3+ saves in a match. City is so dominant that the kind of top-ish team they aren't steamrolling is one being careful (Arsenal) or one that's scoring many goals because they want to give it a go (Chelsea last season, Spurs under Ange)

New season and all, but I'd treat Ederson like Lewis didn't clear that Neto goal off the line

I quite like it, but I wouldn't be so sure about Jota and Doku for the plan of building-up transfers (though I do like jota as a pickin general right now). I'd be thinking about Eze, Bailey, Nkunku, Neto, B.Diaz, Gordon and Gibbs-White (though he's less appealing based on this article, and the Chelsea mids are not exactly low-risk). Maybe that would allow you to improve a bench player, though I understand you are planning a bolder strategy with minimal spend on the bench, which could work well once you've built up some transfers in the bank, but perhaps don't mini-WC to another team with a poor bench once you get there.

      1. LangerznMash
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

Cheers, one other thing I am hoping to achieve with my short term strategy is building up a bit of extra transfer budget so eventually I can have a slightly stronger bench by the time I mini-WC. Attacking the early points usually coincides with players rising in price.

Looks a lot better imo. Different from what I'd go for but I can see the appeal of double Pool defence with the upcoming fixtures. I guess you want to wait for Arsenal's fixtures to turn? I think I would take one of Havertz/Saka over Solanke/Son right now but let's see how they look tonight. Not a massive fan of Doku tbh, can be fun to watch but not enough consistent end product for FPL

      1. LangerznMash
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

Thanks, yes I am dodging Arsenal until they have a clear run of good fixtures. I know I will miss out on some points but hoping my other short term picks can compensate for this. Doku is the most punty of my picks for game time but he is so exciting to watch and will surely be involved in goals when he is on the pitch.

Plan was to play Hall, but no Schar is a concern. Still, on some set pieces as you can see in this article and they had enough grit to get through without Schar against Southampton, and you'd think it would be easier with an extra man against Bournemouth!

Saliba for baps. Gabriel for set-piece prowess. Not sure which way to lean. If/when Caliafiori is on the pitch, I expect Saliba's set piece threat to drop from very little to practically nothing.

Is it normal for a player to wave goodbye for supporters after away game? I saw Eze doing that and it director decided to show that. I didn't see what others did though. I am wondering if he is going to stay and is Zaha coming back or what happened to those rumours.

    1. Tonyawesome69

He could be waving at family members amongst the fans.

Gundo linked to City could be the cheap alternative they need. Also tax issues is complicating Zaha move to PL.

I don't, but it is small extra factor helping me not to knee jerk Nkunku to Eze now. Maybe it was nothing and it could also have been "just in case" wave also. Sometimes paying attention to minor factors help, sometimes it harms 😉

        1. Ze_Austin

The thing with transfers is that they can break down when the player is already in his new team's stadium taking photos

The only actual link between City and Eze right now is that City indicated interest and discussed him among their options to buy

They didn't activate his release clause before it expired. They're now interested in Gundogan, who may also not end up coming in

I understand the urge to sell Nkunku, but do you really need to sell him before his fixture run actually starts? I'd let him be benched or blank against the next few easier opponents before switching, if I had him

Team looks good - I wouldn't be too worries. The odds were always better for Salah gw1 and Haaland gw2. Can't say either way which is better yet but no need to panic.

As G2G for GW2 as they come, imo. Salah vs Haaland might be a weekly yo-yo for the high points, which is why the game's priced so well to hamper a squad that has both

Quansah's price needs to be monitored imo. If it is going to drop then 0.1 = 0.5 basically for near future transfers.

Quansah and Barco as def subs means that you don't have 3 defenders if any of your starters gets ill or has training field accident. They are basically certain starters though, and I don't know how high no-show risk is. 2-5% per player perhaps these days(?)

Barco agree, ESR played United away and Nkunku played City, not the games where you expect a 5.5 and 6.5 to explode. Wait and see if you ask me. Nkunku could still be in for a good run now, Same goes for ESR, but not a fan of the latter though. They are cheapies for a reason..

I'd like to see Rodri starting and KDB back to high xA before lumping the TC on the robot

I feel these two factors will merge for another great home fixture at some point later in the season, even if it's not a DGW

      1. Dutchy FPL

Agree. On the other hand I watched Ipswich and in the second half I think Haaland could score four goals if he was a Pool player..

      2. PogChamp
        • 14 Years

Fair point about Rodri. One of the reasons I’m uncertain. I’m not so concerned about KDB form. I still think this has the potential for a Haaland haul though. A lot of players built their squads around this fixture so reckon TC will be popular.

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 7 Years

I'd definitely cap Haaland if I had him

But TC is once a season, and there will be a DGW for the kind of deep squad that goes far enough in the cups to have one of the few mini-DGWs we'll have this season... With City usually being one of those clubs: https://x.com/BenCrellin/status/1825488548063051821

Cap Haaland, definitely. TC? He'll still face Southampton, Leicester and/or whichever whipping boy emerges later. With a fully flowing City attack feeding him... And that's if Salah doesn't prove to be back to his best, making him a nice TC candidate against such whipping boys as well

          1. PogChamp

Yes all good points. I’m leaning more against than for. It’s just there will be disappointment if he doesn’t score at least twice. Besides, I suck at getting the DGWs right.

    3. Dutchy FPL
      • 2 Years

Difficult decision.. I prefer a double GW, because you start with 8 points if he plays at least 60 and doesn't score.. That means that he needs to score at least two against Ipswich to make it interesting.. He can of course, but it can also be a very expensive chip..

He volleyd the ball to the sky in fast situation in difficult position when there was empty net in front of him. It was one of those situations that even if you tried to do that you would score instead 9 times out of 10 (almost).

I think it gives me the flexiblity to save transfers during the season

        Full team:

        Martine
        TAA Gvardiol VDV
        Foden Diaz Jota Eze
        Haaland Solanke Muniz

        4.0 Rogers Konsa 4.0

        1. Tonyawesome69
          • 6 Years

You may want Rogers/Muniz rotation as 8th attacker.

Do you want to be wasting a transfer on VDV who is short term and not a long term set and forget? Would prefer to rotate that with a 4th defender or look for a better set forget 3rd def.

          1. Emiliano Sala
            • 9 Years

            Yeah rotations seems lovely
For example next gw eze has chelsea away I can play rogers vs leicester
I will have vdv over the season I guess
He will rise in price and is cheap imo
Will play konsa over next few weeks after this gw when vdv fixtures are tough
And not worrying his (low)points from the bench in this period

        2. Ze_Austin
          • 7 Years

In a Haaland team, Foden feels a bit excessive when Havertz looks good for Arsenal. Gives you an alternate captain down the line, and I wouldn't want to be tied down to the 6.0 forward pool this early: let one emerge, then sell Solanke/Havertz for 'em

I'd take Havertz + Gordon over Foden + Muniz. Gets you nailed high scorers at Arsenal and Newcastle in a longer-term team

Diaz... Diaz has had a full season to prove he's not the most lethal finisher. I get that he's there due to fixtures, but I'd take Mitoma over him for now... And use those funds to bump VdV up to Porro if sticking with Spurs. Prefer Munoz + Raya to Martinez + Porro on current evidence though

          1. Emiliano Sala
            • 9 Years
            1 year, 3 months ago

Thanks. Foden has great fixtures till gw 11. Plenty of points potentially. And everyone has haaland. It’s like having one city attacker with foden in that case
And for diaz, if you have watched liverool’s game he was the most dangerous one
And he scored good in preseason
He is a differential for me
If I were not picking him, I would pick palmer instead of him and eze
Havertz is a very good option I agree
But muniz at 6.0 with that fixtures may bring the same points over 10-11 weeks imo
Very tasty games coming for fulham and he looked sharp vs utd

Not everyone has Haaland, but... A high percentage of people have Arsenal and Newcastle attackers. You're locking yourself out on a wildcard. I wouldn't even call it coverage because I expect Gordon + Havertz to outscore Foden + Muniz without factoring in captaincy. That's the point I was getting at there. Muniz is a streaky player, based on the little evidence we had from last season

As for Diaz, I say this as a Liverpool fan: nothing about how Diaz looked in preseason or GW1 is new. He's always looked threatening, but keeps proving to just not be lethal/clinical enough for what people usually want in FPL. Say, somewhat like Bilva. An absolutely excellent gem of a player, but not where I'd be going when City's fixtures are green

On diaz, I never got near him last year
                Because he was never nailed
If he becomes regular starter under slot the points will come
                That’s a rule not a prediction
Just imagine if he had scored this game one of all those chances
And for 7.5 seems cheap to me until he keeps his place in starting 11, will keep his place in my team
If he loses, I will burn a transfer
