A tangent from the chip news:
    In UCL, would you prefer
    (A) 6 points
    (B) JGimenez (Slovan Home)
    (C) THernandez (Red Star Home)

Have read about this assistant manager chip.

    Don’t get it. Like…….at all.

Can anyone shine some light on this and what it is? I’m rather dim haha!

Pick a manager and get points for the team's results for 3 weeks.

Cheers bud. So……..I can pick any premier league manager, and and I get points from that team for three weeks?

So for example I pick Chelsea, and they win three games, I get 9 points?

Also, you can't have 3x players of that team and you get extra points if you choose a team that's low in the standings. Plus each manager will have a price (hasn't been announced yet) and you won't be able to use another chip during those 3 GWs.

Still don’t get it. What an absolutely pathetic chip, and so complex. Think I’ll be ignoring this chip and just pretend it doesn’t exist haha!

I guess you can find a time you don't plan to use any other chip for 3 weeks and just buy the manager of the team with the best fixtures.

I expect it's like the other chips, can only play one at a time, so need to choose a period when you won't prefer a BB, TC or FH chip

Will probably count the same as if the manager left the team, you still get points relevant to how the team is performing.

It's not an assistant manager chip. It's a club chip because if the manager gets sacked or leaves the chip stays with the club.

Think they should have made it a one week only like the other chips. Locking out TC or BB when a juicy double comes up is daft.

But it's a level playing field, as we all new there was a mystery chip, no one has gained an advantage. Whether a player has used other chips yet or not is irrelevant. That was their own choice

"That was their own choice"..... based on guessing what rule changes may or may not be made in 4 months. thats not a level playing field, thats guessing how the structure of the game will be manually altered in the middle of the season and hoping your guess will positively work with those unknown rule changes.

"Whether a player has used other chips yet or not is irrelevant. " in a game which is massively impacted by chip usage, trust me, its relevant

I think this is a good strategy too.

TC Salah for his double whenever it is.
Mystery chip from 31-33 (33 small double)
FH in 34 (big possible BGW)
    WC 35
    BB 36 (Possible Big DGW)

I get that the new chip is wonky, but think of it as an opportunity to get a mega cheap player within the confines of the current rules (budget, transfers, 3/club).

The only caveat I think is interesting is that you’re locked out of chips for 3 GWs. Definitely a fun chip imo

which retroactively affects strategy. for example, it can only be used from gw 24 onward...and its a 3 week window in which no other chips can be used. so, if you have a triple captaincy left, and cant use it in that manager chip window, while someone who already used tc on the haaland hattrick can.....the person who used the tc early has an advantage in using the manager chip.

if this new chip was announced BEFORE the season, then fair play. but mid-season is completely ridiculous. and this is coming from someone who already (successfully) used their tc early.

100% yes I am. its a 3 week window (limited to gws 24 to 38) which limits all other chips from being used in it. if you cant see how over the course of a full season its a disadvantage for people with more chips in that limited window, then Im not sure how else to explain it to you.

announcing it before the season would have totally altered chip strategy from day 1. but announcing it mid season creates a situation where you either got lucky by using TC early, or unlucky by holding it. if you're holding the tc now, this just eliminated a 3 week window where you can use it.

You had the same information as everybody else playing the game and decided to play your chip. That was a risk you decided to take and you can't whine about it now. You knew the mystery could have been anything and gambled.

Of course having this AM chip and TC chip puts you at an advantage over people who have already TC'd (unless they got massive points with it, of course). Choice is always a good thing.

you dont get it, having both chips at this point is the disadvantage. the AM chip limits the amount of weeks you can play it now. people who held it for a double probably cant use it in the double because the AM chip window will eat it up. that affects strategy, and would have affected strategy from the beginning....had people been aware. tons of people would have used the TC on haaland early if they knew about the AM rule

again, I used my TC early and got a massive benefit from this new chip, but its still terrible for the integrity of the competition.

"Guess you should have waited to see what the chip was if you wanted to plan properly" - yet again, you miss the point entirely. waiting to see what the chip was halfway thru the season wasn't giving yourself the ability to "plan properly". people who "waited to see what the chip was" and held their TC chip got burned, and now their plans to use the TC are limited to a much smaller window as a result of the new chip. their "proper plans" are now massively limited

im tapping out of this discussion. if you cant see this, im sorry. enjoy your season, it will have an asterisk next to it

I still think WC following by BB on a big DGW is the best way to use those two chips assuming the squad doesn't need major surgery beforehand. You can have 15 players all with doubles whereas the assistant manager chip will only benefit from his team's doubles.

What I really don't like in this thing is manager pricing. You often happen to be frustrated bc of 0.1m shortage of a necessary player. If you have to withdraw from your budget another 0.5-1.5, I think I'm gonna send this chip to South Gloucestershire.

Think of it as an ability to have 16 players in your picks and being able to play 12 players for 3 GWs

Laughable that some people find this too complex to look up. 😉

For those that still have wildcard, when's the time to play it and what team to get?

Play it whenever you like? And pick a team you think garners the most points?

I will play mine in GW18 or 19 and will pick players based on injuries over Xmas, form, formations/nailedness due to new managers etc

Get players. Could still get decent points regardless of team results.

Somewhere deep in the bowels of very expensive buildings, decisions are made around a hugely expensive desk and furnishings by shadowy figures of influence that will effect the lives of the powerless bewildered plebs that also consume the news and narrative that the same shadowy money printers also control.

Thoughts on a good sub 4.9m defender for fixture pile up (not Gomez or Colwill)?

Dunk and Kerkez are my early thoughts

Munoz might be worth a look. If bench cover his upcoming 5th YC

Is it still worth bringing in Timber? It seems like he's always a game away from getting injured again.

I got him in knowing it may be a risk but because I have my WC I will get rid if he misses the match this weekend I think. My original plan, if he stayed fit, was timber Gabriel Becker and Konate. Might keep Raya get Gabriel Konate and maybe VVD

Yeah, I think I will wait until the last minute before deadline to bring him in or not.

There's only one thing for certain in FPL this season and it's that Brentford get battered everywhere they go

Yeah. I can't help but think Palmer was a little lucky in the last GW though to get two pens.

They lost those games, which ones did they get battered in?

Or is 1-2 a "battering" these days?

Am in that trap atm. Promised myself would permacaptain Salah, but rather rate Robinson/Fulham. They might not concede too many goals

Very early but mystery chip on Wolves in 36-37-38 could be interesting. BHA (H), CRY (A), BRE (H). Games that just scream goals and Brighton and Brentford should be five places or more higher up

Had the same thought, but chances are that Wolves will have a new manager by then who'd have them in and around those teams. Their squad is too good for a relegation scrap I think.
