Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've been resisting this for a while but here it is: RMT

    Schwarzer Green
    Terry Koscielny Boyce Gunter Tierney
    Cazorla Mata Valencia Noble Beausejour
    Rooney Tevez Graham

Mata->Bale gw2, and Terry->Baines at some point. Except the obvious double Wigan, is there anything you don't like?

All I might change is simply starting with Bale GW1. I know that only leaves you with Terry for CHE coverage but you could start Torres for Rooney and make that switch GW2?

That was the option i was considering. But Newcastle are tight, and Bale did come off with a knock in the last game. Besides i think Rooney will perform.

I'm just worried about Siggy taking his set pieces off him, and possibly even competing with him for game time. Went with Bale to be safe, but could easily switch to VDV if he plays in the same role as last season.

I could be wrong but I think I have the right team.:

    Federici Jaaskelainen

Zabaleta Cole A Cuellar Hughes Simpson

Yaya Toure Bale McClean Lampard Pienaar

    Tevez Graham Torres

All 15 should start and are reasonably good. I have nothing in the bank but can easily downgrade one of 6.5 mids next week once the first set of matches are played and we know which 4.5 players will start.

With .5 million left in the bank, which would you do?
    A. Jelavic to Tevez
    B. Yaya to Nasri
    C. Neither
    D. Both and swap Mata with Lampard

If the answer is A, is it worth it to have Yaya as well as Tevez? I'd love to hear any advice!

I would actually say A. I have Tevez as well. Yaya will play almost every game and get tons of assists and goals. Nasri is in it some games and others not so much but to me is just not as dominant as YaYa. That being said I think Tevez will have the majority of the goals this season which is why I went with him as well. I have a feeling you're going to see a lot of assists from yaya to Tevez for the goals.

    ************ LONG POST ALERT ********
Did a few stats up on Van Persie vs Rooney tonight using the FPL history over the last 6 seasons. Here's what I came up with - note: obviously Van Persie has had injury set backs which affect game time.

    Robin Van Persie (13.0):
Average game time per season -1846 [20.5 games]
Average points per season - 142
Average points per game - 6.923
Average goals per season - 14.33
Average assists per season - 7.83
Average bonus per season - 23.5 points

    Wayne Rooney (12.0):
Average game time per season -2522 [28.0 games]
Average points per season - 177
Average points per game - 6.316
Average goals per season - 17
Average assists per season - 9.5
Average bonus per season - 28.3 points

    *PPG - points per game

    2011/12 - RVP (7.268 ppg) Rooney (7.324 ppg)
    2010/11 - RVP (7.983 ppg) Rooney (5.743 ppg)
    2009/10 - RVP (7.547 ppg) Rooney (7.436 ppg)
    2008/09 - RVP (5.934 ppg) Rooney (5.361 ppg)
    2007/08 - RVP (5.703 ppg) Rooney (6.107 ppg)
    2006/07 - RVP (6.675 ppg) Rooney (5.665 ppg)

Even as a winger he gave Rooney's stats a run for their money 🙂 gonna be a hard decision to call FPL-wise. Although I am swaying towards Rooney just on price and due to the fact that I wanted him before RVP arrived.

As much I love seeing RvP in United it makes my team so much harder to put together. I think RvP will the biggest goals threat and the best fantasy prospects with set pieces duties. What do you think this will mean for Kagawa? Will he play deep with Carrick or what? Oh my oh my....

What do you think of this team?

out of those I would go Nasri and Cazorla. I would prefer Bale in place of Cazorla but he wasn't listed 🙁

Will Cazorla hog all of the set pieces now that Van Persie has moved on?

Yaya. On form and proven in the prem. He's one of the few that I haven't even thought of getting rid of and I also have Kagawa.
