Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Tip of the day...

There are no 4m defs worth having. Very few will start and they all play for shit teams. I have two but that's because I have three other defs that I will play every week.

Disagree. Sorry, old fart. There are definitely "some" 4m defenders worth having. I'm all over the two "biggies" with a 3 x 4m rotation.

3 x 4m is a disaster waiting to happen, poor form, no shows and other problems mean you won't be able to stick with it

Agreed - good def's at 4.5m, lots of duds at 4m. Midfield tricky as decent ones start at 5.5m...

I've got 2 but only because I have 3 defs I'll play nearly every week. Wasting transfers on cheapy defenders is a nightmare, an absolute nightmare.

Sure the 4m's are pretty rubbish, I will probably on use them if i desperately need the 0.5 or plan on perma benching them. Saying this i do have Clyne who is 4m. I think he could work out, plus he will mostly be benched anyway.

Sorry for the re-post all (no response to the post earlier - a few pages back). Wouldn't mind generating some responses/thoughts on the below. Seems that the majority of RMTs on here are planning the "keep 2.0m spare for Torres > Rooney" transfer following GW1 -

What are the thoughts on witholding that 2.0m needed to complete the planned upgrade of Torres to Rooney post GW1?
Say if you spent that extra 2.0m on your starting squad and were intent on getting Rooney in GW2, would you consider a 4pt hit this early on a feasible option? Meaning you’d need to downgrade elsewhere to free up funds to complete Torres > Rooney

If you are defenitely planning to get him in second week, keep the money free. If not, and you are taking a "wait and see approach", spend the money, then downgrade another player when you need to

Appreciate the responses. Really strengthens the side when you spend that spare 2.0m on improving/tweaking the midfield. Will have a re-think again!

surely Guthrie will outscore Marveaux GW1 and when he’s my fifth midfielder, the next worst being Pienaar, he’s not going to see much playing time so then is Marveaux's limited gametime after first few gameweeks really worth putting him into my team?

I disagree. Marveaux as a forward, against a spurs team with no defensive mids, could score well. Guthrie has one of his games against chelsea awayt where he will socre a maximum 2pts

    Torres(c), Tevez, Graham

    GW2 - save (& bench Robson-Kanu)
GW3: Torres -> RVP/Rooney, funded by either Mata -> Pienaar, or Ivanovic -> Hughes

It doesn't take that much time. You can only make one transfer per week. Someone quit our mini league because it takes too much time. I dont get it. Picking your initial team may take time but after that you only need to spend an hour at most picking your team each week IMO.

Don't pick Cerny. If you're determined to have a non playing GK..go with the least owned, not the most owned.,..you'll lose 0.2 or 0.3 in team value very quickly, otherwise.

What do the deadzoners think of Rvp to Man U? I really fear for the output of him and Roo now, taking points and BP off each other. They're too expensive if they're not the focal points of their teams. Mau just stick to Tevez, Cisse and Bent / Graham, and load up on midfielders.

Yeah, it's either him or Tierney, and with this flashy new Spaniard Garrido arriving there's no way I can count on Tierney to start. Since Bennett has been there in preseason and will play as long as Whittaker is injured, I think I can live with that. Particularly as he is in a 3-way rotation so even if he disappears the damage is limited. And 4.0 ain't too much to lose.

I am - if you've got Torres then you don't need a Che midfielder as you'll have your (c) for the week.

Reviewing the opening fixtures and Spurs have the most impressive run from GW2 to 9. 6 home games, 3 away. Very good fixtures too. All this planning on Rooney is not so appealing to me, especially with RVP arriving. United have tricky fixtures. Interestingly, Liverpool have 6 home games in the first 10, tough games mainly but still fancy them at home and a new regime. Suarez is a great differential.

The differential at that price range is Cisse of New - Suarez is a terrible finisher and will never provide enough points.

    RMT please:

    DDG (Begovic)
    Hangelaand Gibbs Zabaleta Ferdinand (Tierney)
Mata Lampard (vc) Nasri (Allen Dyer)
    Torres (c) Tevez Graham

Ferdinand & Zabaleta or Rafael & Lescott?

If I'm honest I think your midfield is rubbish!

        It looks fine to me
Too strong of a defense though
        Midfield looks fine

Why is the midfield rubbish? Mata and Lampard both have the DGW (going to swap out Lampard for VDV in week 2), Nasri will start for Silva until he's fit (going to swap him out when that happens), Allen and Dyer should get consistent cs points and the occasional assist.

        Who would you change?

I worry Allen won't get many points and think Michu will outscore Pienaar. I decided against Pog since it would use an early transfer I have too much Chelsea coverage

Sinclair has not signed a new contract so will most likely miss the first game this is my opinion take terry out so then your overall defence will have more depth and more quality
