Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

very strong attack, but your mids could do with one more heavy hitter.

cant have the best of both.

maybe aguero to Graham / podolski and upgrade your mids - not vital though

Too high too soon IMO. Until you've really proven yourself (and getting a modest goalscoring haul mostly made up of penalties isn't quite what I mean) you'll hurt your career going up to a giant, especially one than can easily get by without you. Look what eventually happened to SWP at Chelsea.

So, has the time come when we start taking Defoe as a legitimate option? If they don't buy another striker, he looks nailed on for starts and an absolute bargain at 7.5m

they will turn around and spend that modric money, they have to. Still it may not get pulled off until deadline day and defoe could be a nice short term punt. but with an eye to using transfers to remove chelsea players over the first couple of gws, i still think defoe is too much of a risk to upset those necessary plans.

True, but I thought the plan was to spend it on that Moutinho fella? I'm really tempted to have a punt on Defoe - no competition as of now, and if they do sign another striker, he's a relatively easy switch to Jelavic in GW4.

      fabio better option then A.Ferdinand.

Double NEWC defence with hard start - go santon to hangeland

I would personally prefer Bale to Siggy as he will be sitting deeper but thats my opinon. Otherwise looks good

hopefully torres.. but its a toss up really..
My guess is 1. Torres (hopefully he goes mad)
      2. Lampard (pens and free kicks)
      3. Mata (playmaker- may be involved in any goals scored)

A flash-in--the-pan type of guy IMO. He scored one hatrick for Fulham and then went quiet.

His fixtures aren't great and I don't know him well enough yet. Even the double gameweek doesn't look great, considering the second game is against Chelsea.

      last minute jitters aatish? 😉

for a million more, i think graham or petric can provide more use for a longer stretch. for me its all about minimizing transfers.

Any thoughts on Liverpools new signing Assaidi? I don't know much about him besides hes a winger with a very good goal scoring record looking at his stats. Possible investment?

I think he's 10 times the player downing is. Plus he really doesn't have any competition on the left which seems to be what he favors anyway

I had HKR in my side because of the preseason games, but here is a link to a Brian Mcdermot comment that makes me think he will not be first choice.

      http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2118350_mcdermott_closer_to_finalising_his_reading_fc_lineup

When someone says they are "delighted" for a young player it normally means "well done, but not yet".

I'm still unsure though, so I replaced him with Britton.

      Hope it helps.
