Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm going cheap up top. i just have a feeling about djibril cisse, and darren bent this year.

    DDG - Fed

Ivanovic Zab Hangeland (S taylor, Mccartney(wham))

    (Michu) n'zog mata bale taarabt

    bent torres cisse

I'm going to downgrade torres to tevez or podolski. Very strong defence, and midfield i always have options.

Am not sure they will live up to the expectations now that Rodgers, Allen are gona ( Sinclair too i reckon), Their defence has been leaky over the pre-season, but Graham is on fire, They've got decent fixtures too, So i have a feeling we'll see more goals from the former Watford man

    Williams, Terry, Cole, (Tierney, Clyne)
    Valencia, Bale, Silva, Guthrie (Clyne)
    Podoloski, Aguero, Graham

yes i have Silva, i reckon he'll play 35 minutes, still a GA, then he will play the rest of the season fine.

.5 left for Cole to Baines GW3

Swansea have a really easy draw hence Williams.

Feeling like I should probably have some Arsenal cover given I support them and they have a decent GW1 - worth doing Bale/VDV -> Walcott/Cazorla?

    De Gea, Federici

      yeah i think so.

Your currently holding two Tottenham players in a team with no holding mids and no striker they actually want to use.

I would go cazorla out of the two

arsenal will hammer southampton, though the neutrals don't think so. arsenal coverage would be good but i'm skeptical. however mata came last season and got 16! assists so i dont see why cazorla can't

        We're playing Sunderland, and I don't think we'll hammer them. Fancy a 2-0 myself.

I think I'm going to double on TOT to start with as they have better fixtures. I just feel morally obliged....

i love how the richards headline says RULED OUT FOR 10 WEEKS, and the body of the story says "could be" and "for up to". To me this basically means nothing.

and the nerve to label it an "exclusive". to say someone could be out for up to 10 weeks is speculation. Exclusive speculation???

Have a spare 0.5m hanging around - Hangelaand -> Riise anyone? Seriously attacking for a defender and takes the odd free-kick. Could just be work the extra 0.5m...

Not just the odd free kick, he takes plenty.. so, uhm.. maybe.. I like Hange tho
      other options? like a 9 to a 9.5?

Hangerland or hughes for me, depending on your rotation strategy. For 5.5m, you would want to play riise every game, and I wouldn't trust him for that

i prefer siggy of the two based purely on VDVs fitness history. VDV is a player who when in for is worth bringing in immediately, even for a hit, and riding the wave. but his bubble always inevitably bursts, and by bubble, i mean hamstring. I would bet even odds that siggy will be getting a chunk of time behind the striker over the course of the first 5 gws, and even when he's not, he's still going to get set piece work and get into some scoring areas during a given match.

        yeah, tought so.
I suppose penalties are what made me change siggy for vdv, but then again I think Siggy is much safer to get 90 mins/game.

        Thank you!

I know you can only read so much into stats, but VDV for me is a way better pick than Siggy. Using the player comparison tool on here - over the last 6 matches they played in, and bearing in mind Siggy started 6 to VDV's 5, VDV wins 8-1 on key stats.

Add to this that VDV is lazy, so I expect he will rarely (if ever) be asked to play the Modric role, whereas Siggy is younger and fitter so I expect him to sit deeper of the two (whilst of course still getting forward at times).

VDV is waaaay more injury prone though, so he comes with a huge caveat, and you have to be ready to ditch him when required.

Ha. I told you I'm looking long term! Anything I get from this week will be a bonus! My current strategy is for three big defenders, which allows me to rotate my mid priced mids.
