Alan Pardew is sweating over the fitness of Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa ahead of Tottenham’s visit to the Sports Direct Arena on Saturday evening. Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign wide man Oussama Assaidi from SC Heerenveen, Norwich snap up former City left-back Javier Garrido on loan, while Swansea sign Kyle Bartley from Arsenal…

Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa both remain “still doubtful” for Newcastle’s home clash with Spurs on Saturday evening, according to Alan Pardew. The French duo have barely featured in pre-season due to their Euro 2012 commitments and, while Ben Arfa’s omission is likely to hand Sylvain Marveaux a starting role on the right flank, the possible absence of Cabaye could be offset by the news that the Magpies have signed Vurnon Anita from Ajax on a five-year deal. The 23-year old can also play in defence but Pardew admitted yesterday that he anticipates his new signing to mainly feature in midfield in the season ahead. The Newcastle boss also revealed Papiss Cisse has recovered from a recent hamstring problem and will be available for selection against Andre Villas-Boas’ side – Pardew failed to mention Demba Ba, who has been nursing a shin problem, though it’s worth remembering the Senegalese striker slumped in form this time last year after fasting during Ramadan.

Liverpool have agreed terms with SC Heerenveen for the transfer of winger Oussama Assaidi. The deal is subject to a medical but, upon completion, is likely to raise concerns over the club’s bid to sign Clint Dempsey from Fulham. The Reds have been linked with the US international all season but with Assaidi’s preferred position as an inverted winger on the left, it may well be that Brendan Rodgers has given up on the chase to snap up Dempsey, bearing in mind that Luis Suarez is likely to be fielded on the flanks in Rodgers’ preferred 4-3-3 formation. The transfer also raises question marks over the game time of Stewart Downing – the former Villa man has been stationed on the right in recent matches and, at 6.5 in FPL, had looked an intriguing prospect, but he could well be restricted to a sub role is Assaidi completes his move.

Norwich yesterday completed the signing of Javier Garrido from Lazio on a season-long loan. The former Man City left-back’s return to the Premier League immediately raises major question marks over the game time of Marc Tierney for the season ahead as Chris Hughton continues to bolster his backline. Having shipped 66 goals and returned three clean sheets under Paul Lambert in 2011/12, the Canaries defence was given a wide berth by Fantasy managers but pre-season results have been encouraging, with four clean sheets in the last six friendlies and Tierney – priced at 4.0 in FPL – looked an intriguing option. Dependant on Garrido’s price, it could well that one of Ryan Bennett or Leon Barnett may afford us a cut-price route into Hughton’s backline for the season ahead.

Swansea have signed Kyle Bartley from Arsenal on a three-year deal. The deal is something of a surprise from a Fantasy perspective – with Chico already arriving from Genoa, we’d anticipated the Spaniard forging a partnership with Ashley Williams at the heart of the Welsh club’s defence but Michael Laudrup looks to have other ideas up his sleeve. With a strong starting schedule, the Swans backline seem primed for investment but with doubts surrounding the central areas, Angel Rangel and Neil Taylor could well be a safer bet until we discover the new manager’s intentions. Bartley has yet to be added to the Fantasy games and, while all their main defenders are priced at 5.0 in FPL, Rangel, at 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, looks like the most secure route into Laudrup’s backline right now. Reports have also suggested the Dane is ready to bring Pablo Hernandez to the club, raising question marks over Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer with just one day before tomorrow’s big kick-off – hardly ideal as we look to whittle our squads into shape.

VDV will be on pens, possibly Siggy could take a share in some free kicks... but VDV will play in a more advanced role, I don't care what anyone says... so with his more advanced position plus penalties, go with VDV

Depends on the rest of your midfield. If you have 3 regulars you are happy with then Guthrie could work. But I wouldn't want to be playing Guthrie much, I don't see him scoring anything but 1s and 2s. Noble is at least on set pieces.

Who will be on pens? Free kicks? No one knows. I'm going to stick with Rooney as I don't see him being completely removed from pens straight away and I'd question whether RVP is match fit right now given he hasn't been involved in much pre-season training.

Tevez for now, Aguero once Balotelli starts getting game time... reason being he is looking sharp and is 2.5m cheaper... both capable of scoring 200+ in a season but Aguero is less likely to be benched/subbed so would be the best long term prospect, but for now it's Tevez for me

I really don't understand what's going on with Alex Song.. it's very weird for Wenger to be so honest in a press conference about a player leaving.

Not sure why he's on his way out or why Wenger would be so open to him going with 3 years left on his contract.

Another quality analysis from Chris Glover. Impact of JVP moving to Utd.

    http://premierleaguefantasy.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-changing-landscape-or-what-to-do.html

Short answer: JVP may possibly end up being worth his 13.0m (let's wait and see) but whenever Rooney has shared the pitch with big names his fantasy returns have suffered hugely.

I remember someone on here the other night saying RVP will still be worth it once he settles in... can't remember the name of that rogue though 😉

I'm pretty sure Rooney will take DFKs from the left and RVP will take the ones on the right. Also I reckon RVP will take on a lot of our CKs because Nani & co. are hopeless at hitting them. Rooney will probably retain pens but it's not a sure thang. Exciting times.

What do you think of this lot?

    GK: de Gea, Federici

DF: Cuellar Demel Hangeland Ivanovic Clyne

MF: Bale Mata Noble Kaclacnic Kagawa

    FW: Torres Tevez Graham

3,5 m in bank (2-3 for Rooney/RvP and 0,5 which could be handy soon)

Rip it to pieces if you like!

Don't bother....you will end up investing too much in your defence otherwise!

dont go for cerny, he has high ownership so is likely to decrease in value, go for daniels as he wont

    I guys,

The people in my league have changed the rules a bit,

We have 7 teams, the first time we can select whoever we want, but after GW1 we can't transfer players in that are already in other peoples teams, so I need to have the best long-term players in advance:

I need man utd, chelsea and city defencive cover and attacking cover

And I prefer arsenal attacking cover over spurs

    Any ideas?

Should I go for rooney, torres and tevez up front to limit the options for my competition?

That is an awful rule. As most good players will already be in someones team.

I like the rule because you really need to thinker,

deals can be made with 2 players,

So lets say I have rooney and he has RVP and we want to change that is possible only if we agree

    hi guys
yet again i am in desperate need of guidance and input,
    here is my current team
    Hart, Gazzaniga
    Vidic,Ferdinand(manu), Zab,Jose E (Clyne)
    Bale,Michu,Allen,(Pienar, El Ahmadi)
    Torres,Tevez,Poldolski
no cash in the bank considering Torres week 2 ---> Giroud/Adzy(tot) / other
is Zab nailed on for the first 7 or so weeks until Richard is back?
is Poldolski likely to take set peices and Pens (worried about Arteta on both)
    Michu really worth the Hype?

sorry for so many questions but if u can help with anything or even give me advice on how to better my team that would be appreciated, i'd also be much more obliged if you backed up your answer but all serious input will be considered
    thanks again
    Sigga

Zab is nailed on for the foreseeable. Too much in defence, just need one city one united, Vidic and Zab. Your midfield is weak, use the money from defence to get one more big midfielder in..mata etc.

    a) Pog & Ramieres
    or
    b) Jagielka & Defoe

currently have A, but tottenhams fixtures are so tempting...

Danger of slow Everton start and spurs signing a striker. Plus, take advantage of DGW for pog
