Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) or no Salah? Salah and Erling Haaland (£14.0m)? Salah and Cole Palmer (£10.5m)?

Why not have all three?! Costing a whopping £39m, it’s not easy to fit them into a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) squad.

However, it could be worth it; the trio scored 739 Fantasy points between them last season, and that’s with Palmer and Haaland having significant patches of poor form.

In this article, I’ll talk through a hypothetical ‘threemium’ FPL draft and weigh up the pros and cons of such an approach.

‘THREEMIUM’ DRAFT

I'm thinking Areola and Kelleher for these fixtures in the first 6:

      sun (Areola)
      AVL (Kelleher)
      sun (K)
      TOT (A)
      CRY (A)
      MUN (K)

Might have to do something about GW7 though when West Ham host Arsenal and Brentford visit Man City.

Unless you're preparing for BB, I don't see why you wouldn't just get Sels or Sanchez.

Both have (mostly) good early fixtures.

P and K do rotate beautifully. I have also hated rotating as you can miss so many points. Just do a Sanchez/Sels + 4m

New day, new team... Reijnders and Truffert my punts.

    Kelleher

    N.Williams, De Cuyper, AWB

    Salah, Palmer, Wirtz, Reijnders

    Gyokeres, Watkins, Solanke

    (4.0, Truffert, 4.0, 4.5)

Starting Reijnders every week might be a problem if Pep-roulette strikes

Yep, but there are a couple options I can switch to if that's the case. We'll know more about Malen's situation, and Anderson / Caicedo are safe picks. I'm happy to start with Reijnde

I also think WHU will struggle defensively, tough opening run of fixtures too bar GW1

I only really need AWB for his good fixtures. Truffert can come in after GW1.

The combination of punts and no bench makes for a dangerous team structure. Assuming you want to keep all your heavy assets, maybe Solanke to Strand Larsen could give the team some breathing room / flexibility.

I've swapped my goalie combo from Verbruggen/Kelleher to Vicario/Areola with Verbruggen's status uncertain.

Between the two of them, they each have a decent fixture until Week 10, where one plays Man City and the other plays Newcastle.

The 6.5 guys are giving me no confidence. Semenyo and Rogers for just 0.5 more give you such a big jump in quality and 1m less at 5.5 Anderson will likely score similarly to every 6.5m mid.

Disagree. I think the Ndiaye hype is justified. Mitoma also surely has the potential to be every bit the asset that Semenyo or Rogers will be. Likewise Iwobi and I. Sarr. And Enzo and Rice have a lot going for them.

I'm starting on Ndiaye and happy to see the alternatives to jump onto if he flops.

Does Sanchez Collins over Kelleher Cucu save you 0.5?
Don’t like VdV AWB De Cuyper and Reinildo hasn’t played at all in pre season.
I prefer O’Riley over Welbeck from Brighton attack, cheaper too.
I’m starting with Watkins Wood over Gyokeres Pedro.

        1. Punned It
            4 months, 8 days ago

O'Riley didn't get awfully many minutes last season. You'd go for him over Baleba, I take it?

I am sure you will not like a few picks but I am having fun setting this up:

        Sels - (Darlow)
        Gabriel - AitNouri - Aina - (Konsa) - (Rodon)
        Saka - Palmer - JWP - Andreas - Malen
        Haland - Solanke - (StandtLarsen)

        plan is:
        - Haland over Salah purely due to ownership
        - rotate JWP and StrandtLarsen
        - early sell Gabriel for Munoz early (GW3/4)
        - later sell sell Saka for Wirtz (if proven) and Solanke for Gyokeres (after his run of good fixtures or beginning of flops)
        - be ready to sell Malen (if not delivering) and Andreas for rising cheap MIDs

if AitNouri does not deliver I will jump on LIV def / CHE def early. I will be late on LIV because I want to see who start like 4-5-6 games in a row

        1. Club-De-Belon
          • 4 Years
          4 months, 9 days ago

Rodon simply because I think Leeds will be strongest promoted team (Gnonto could be interesting btw)
and his lack of CBIT is contextual IMO. You can have good stats in that area when you dominate league. I think he is a good defender despite everyone saying Bijol / Gudmundsson are better picks.

I checked JWP's price out of curiosity and I was not expecting him to be as high as £6m! Surely there's gotta be better picks

Could be golden. Not having a 6.0 DEF might make it harder to chop and change once we start seeing some action, but I guess you'll be able to downgrade attackers to invest in defence and bench.

Weird take. Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City have a fair chance of keeping a clean sheet against any opposition. Their defenders are some of the best in the league, with potential for attacking returns and DCs, again regardless of opponents.

You can’t just disregard fixtures completely, odds are they won’t keep clean sheets in tough fixtures. Better cheaper options with better chance of clean sheets early on and just as much attacking returns.

It's easier to chop and change if you have a 6m price point. That way you can transfer in with just one transfer.

From previous experience and obvious evidence I would say don’t consider Udogie. Wouldn’t want to play Caicedo every week, O’Riley looks a far better choice at that price.

        Here's my RMT reveal...

        Areola
        Ait-Nouri Colwill Collins DeCuyper
        Salah(c) Bruno Marmoush Ndiaye
        Gyokeres(v) Evanilson

        Kelleher Thiago Malen Konsa

Possible BB1. No more presumptuous transfer of chip plans than that, but good spread of price points to enable team evolution.

I think he has a fair chance even if Wissa's there.

Marmoush is a quality player and City score lots of goals.

Malen is also a very capable goalscorer and should be first choice with Rashford and Asensio gone.

Yeah good point I could do JSL to Wood/Solanke/Pedro and downgrade Ndiaye to Rejinders/Malen. Will just need to weigh up if having all three brings the benefit to an overall balanced team, I just think all 3 will fly to start

Will the points from Palmer and Haaland make up for having to play Ndiaye, Anderson and JSL week in week out? Rather than committing to one of those premiums and being able to get a couple of 7.5-8.5 mids to match or beat the returns of the former?

You could of course start with all three, see who's underperforming and sell and reinvest in others, but that could be a recipe for an early WC.

        Saka Palmer Rogers Wirtz
        Gyökeres Watkins Wood

        4.0 Malen Esteve Truffert/Senesi

Malen is a placeholder as nobody else really jumps out. That could be a blessing in itself...

Shows how good a squad you can build without Salah+Haaland, however triple Villa attack is overkill.
I'd sack Rogers to improve your defence.
            Rogers+DeCuyper+(Truffert) >>> £11.0m on 2 x defenders and a £5.0 mid on bench.

This would leave me with Malen + a 5.0 mid and I'd be forced into playing one each week.

Here's what it looks like now:

              Sels
              Cucurella Neco De Cuyper
              Saka Palmer Rogers Malen
              Isak Wood Bowen

              4.0 Eze Robinson Esteve

Is it worth adding 0.5M to Enzo Le Fee to have better option on the bench than a midfielder for 4.5M?

Sunderland fixtures are good for the first few weeks. If you aren't going to play Le Fee then, I'd just stick to 4.5.

          Sanchez
          VVD Gabriel Neco Udogie
          Salah (c) Saka Palmer Ndiaye
          Wood Mayenda

          4.0 JSL, Reed, 4.0

What do you reckon? JSL comes back in for the games after City. Saka (c) in GW2. Mayenda is a punt but Sunderland fixtures look alright to start.
