They’ve lost two big names at the back, so does a season of regression await Bournemouth – or can they build on last year’s best-ever Premier League finish?

The Cherries are the subject of our latest 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team preview.

Top picks, Gameweek 1 line-up prediction, fixture assessment, defensive contributions (DC) magnets and more – it’s all covered in this team guide.

BOURNEMOUTH: REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Iraola at Bournemouth: What can FPL managers expect? 3

THE MANAGER

Bournemouth smashed their previous records for goals scored, wins and total points in 2024/25.

The manager played a huge part, as Andoni Iraola fine-tuned his side’s high-intensity approach, pushing them to a new level.

Indeed, the Cherries were only behind Brighton and Hove Albion for counterpressures in the opponents’ half last season:

Iraola is currently in the final 12 months of his contract with Bournemouth, and securing an extension is surely a top priority for club owner Bill Foley.

PROMISING UNDERLYING NUMBERS

Bournemouth generally performed well when playing the top sides in 2024/25, recording memorable victories over Arsenal (twice), Manchester City and Newcastle United.

The underlying numbers were very decent, too: fifth for expected goals (xG) and eighth for expected goals conceded (xGC).

In fact, according to Opta’s Expected Points Table, Iraola’s troops should have finished sixth.

Neither, don't waste yout funds on that, structure the team differently. Muniz was one of the last season's similar enablers and turned out to be a problem for anyone who had him.

Piroe averaged 0.76 G+A per 90mins last season, no reason he can't step up from Championship to the Prem like Chris Wood did previously.

No idea when to use chips but thinking I want to have some fun and just use the first set of chips all one after the other.

    Could do something like:

FH - GW 5 Arsenal vs Man City, Liverpool vs Everton
TC - GW6 Man City vs Burnley
    WC -GW7
    BB - GW8 - Burnley vs Leeds

I've not thought about the other chips but BB gw2 and wildcard gw4 could be on.

        MCI/CHE/ARS/LIV all have good fixtures in GW2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14.
Could be good weeks to take advantage of some of the chips aswell.

Gw1 youve got so many teams playing at home that would be expected to win + SU vs WH, LE vs EVE, WO vs City, surly better to bb gw1?

Does Benjamin Šeško playing striker for Manchester United enhance or diminish Cunha, Mbeumo and Bruno.

If they click they'll be potent so you'd think it's beneficial for the Man Utd attack.

    1. JBG
      • 7 Years

Probably enhances, considering Šeško is a decent goalscorer (and those 3 being creators) and a decent targetman/at holding the ball up, at least better than Højlund and Zirkzee.

He's scored 90 goals in 210 games... Okay a fair few in Austrian football but a 43% strike rate is decent.

At 6ft5 too, is he good in the air?

Dubravka has been nursing a shoulder injury. Still expected to leave the club.

"Martin was scheduled to travel out but he had a shoulder problem and went to see a specialist (abroad) and I think he had an injection. We are awaiting feedback. I think he will be OK."

If we could have got him for about £50m, I would have rather had him than Sesko - think he's quite underrated on here because he misses the odd sitter. His movement is very good.

      1. JT11fc
        • 7 Years
        4 months, 2 days ago

Think the Sesko move is just desperation after their 1st choices failed, Jackson just needs to be an understudy to a top forward for a while, had zero competition at Chels

        1. x.jim.x
          • 11 Years

Apparently we've been looking at him for a while, but I don't understand why we wouldn't just sign a proven striker (like Watkins) and let Hojlund be the understudy for a couple of seasons. We seem to be allergic to signing strikers between the age of 23 and 33 - it's bizarre.

          1. Malkmus
            • 14 Years
            4 months, 2 days ago

Apparently villa wanted 60m for Watkins, which for a 29/30 year old is way too much. I think if utd could get watkins for 40-50m then they would've gone for that. But 20m ish more for a 22 year old makes more sense long term.

            1. x.jim.x
              • 11 Years
              4 months, 2 days ago

It makes sense if he actually performs, but if we end up with another Hojlund (which is very likely), it doesn't make sense at all.

£60m for Watkins might be steep but it means that we'd have a striker who's not only accustomed to the league, but has actually smashed it the last couple of seasons. Hojlund could have taken a back seat for a couple of seasons, eventually stepping up when Watkins starts to slow down.

Now we've spent an extra £20m which could have gone towards a midfielder (which we desperately needed more than anything imo) and we've got another underperforming player who we'll need to shift while their value rapidly plummets. There's just no logic to any of our recruitment beyond "no goals last year so sign shiny new attack."

        - Consider Diouf over AWB
        - Everton have signed a new LB

        - Havertz may start over Gyokeres in GW1 depending on fitness

      Welcome any views/advice on this

      Kelleher, 4m keeper
      VdV, Cucurella, Milenkovic, Dorgu/Diouf, Esteve
      Mo, Palmer, Rogers, Wilson, Paqueta
      Solanke/Wood, Gyokeres, Wellbeck

Undecided on the 6m premium but have gone with Cuca with the fixtures.
0.5m in the bank to possible upgrade to an Arsenal defender (possibly Timber if he starts at RB over Ben White)
Wilson v Adingra was another decision

Keeping an eye on Gyok this week with the Emirates Cup and then might swap him to Watkins and then Rogers to Rice.

Can't see Wellbeck not starting but he can easily become JSL.

Nice, first the login and now the filter. It's almost bearable to be there now.

The filter overlay that appeared on the right side is now integrated into the left side.

DCL linked with Sunderland. How are the cat-walks in the Northeast?

Speaking of Bournemouth. Senesi was quite good season before last. Do we think he's over injuries etc. and able to deliver like 23/24? If so, he's a steal at 4.5.

He hurt me so bad that year. He was good - I'm sure he will regain that form. They have the space in defence now too. I wouldn't personally start with him but one to keep an eye on.

Yeah, I think he's one of the more appealing 4.5 options

Like Dorgu. I really rate his attacking potential. Sadly the very undynamic Dalot is in the way.

I'll probably have him at some point, but I'm willing to see how Bournemouth's defence performs after Liverpool

Help me decide between these two!

          A) Sels, Cucurella, Gakpo.

          B) Sanchez, Neco Williams, Wirtz.

A for me, Sels is the best GK, Cururella attacking returns and as Wirtz is new to the league better to start with Gakpo.

Thanks mate, appreciated! Landed on this, what do you think?

              Sels (Dubravka)

Cucurella, Ait-Nouri, Van De Ven (Gudmundsson, Esteve)

              Salah, Palmer, Gakpo, Rogers, Reijnders

              Gyokeres, Bowen (Guiu).

Decision time, do I play it safe and go with van Dijk, or gamble that ait nouri is nailed,?

          A, van dijk

          B. Ait-nouri

I think VVD is a better pick this year than any year to date. That said, Ait-Nouri will of course smash it *when and if he plays. I'd rather the safe option to start.

Yea with the defence points now I thank vvd is too, he's also more than capable off getting the odd goal from corners, ait-nouri just excites me in that city team I just can't afford both

1.5 in the bank but I like this team - Would you upgrade anywhere or keep the $ for flexibility (maybe doing either Bowen/Solanke to Gyokeres after game week 1)

          Sanchez
          VVD, VDV Williams
          Salah, Palmer, Rogers, Semenyo, Ndiaye
          Bowen, Solanke

Bench: 4.5 defender, Esteve, Marc Guiu

            Watkins for Solanke

            Or Collins/Robinson/Livramento for VDV

My approach on LED (Light on Defence)

          Kelleher
          Diouf - Williams - Konsa
          Rogers - Salah - Palmer - Eze
          Watkins - Wood - Bowen

          (dubravka-anderson-estève-gudmundsson)

I don't mind light on defence but personally would prefer at least one decent bench option to sub in and out. If Diouf is nailed than you're probably doing okay each week with those 3.

Last season I spent tons of money on defenders and they mostly just ended in 1 pointers anyway

Quite liking defensive structure of 3 £5.0 mil defenders a 4.5 and a 4. Enables a heavy midfield and looks good for defcon

          Something like:

          Sanchez
          Williams, Lacroix, Romero, Senesi, Esteve

          Anyone else on similar?

Certainly some good options at 5.0. I'm tinkering but currently going 6.0 3x5.0 4.5:

            Frimpong Collins Colwill Robinson Konsa

          Kelleher
          Cucurella Aina Ait-nouri (awb, esteve)
          Palmer Saka Rogers Wirtz (ramsey)
          J.Pedro Watkins Gyokeres

Actually pretty happy with the team and going brave to succeed over first 6 weeks that are hard for Arsenal, after gw6 everyone will got them.
          Give me opinion?
