They’ve lost two big names at the back, so does a season of regression await Bournemouth – or can they build on last year’s best-ever Premier League finish?

The Cherries are the subject of our latest 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team preview.

Top picks, Gameweek 1 line-up prediction, fixture assessment, defensive contributions (DC) magnets and more – it’s all covered in this team guide.

BOURNEMOUTH: REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Iraola at Bournemouth: What can FPL managers expect? 3

THE MANAGER

Bournemouth smashed their previous records for goals scored, wins and total points in 2024/25.

The manager played a huge part, as Andoni Iraola fine-tuned his side’s high-intensity approach, pushing them to a new level.

Indeed, the Cherries were only behind Brighton and Hove Albion for counterpressures in the opponents’ half last season:

Iraola is currently in the final 12 months of his contract with Bournemouth, and securing an extension is surely a top priority for club owner Bill Foley.

PROMISING UNDERLYING NUMBERS

Bournemouth generally performed well when playing the top sides in 2024/25, recording memorable victories over Arsenal (twice), Manchester City and Newcastle United.

The underlying numbers were very decent, too: fifth for expected goals (xG) and eighth for expected goals conceded (xGC).

In fact, according to Opta’s Expected Points Table, Iraola’s troops should have finished sixth.

The 4m keeper dream isn't going to happen is it?

        It's minor apparently

They won't be able sell him if it's serious

    Konsa or VdV?

    Anderson (safety) or Reijnders (ceiling)?

Konsa now, reassess by GW6 if Frank's got a tune out of them

Personal decision based on how you play, imo. You've outlined the reasons to go for either

Konsa? More chance of a clean sheet if you had constipation.

Villa had 6 clean sheets in their last 12 games

Their defensive notoriety was from how leaky they were earlier in the season

Is Welbeck not nailed? If not, who should I go with instead?

He's nailed. People just doubt his fitness

The one 6.5 striker with no questions whatsoever atm is JSL

Biggest tinkering of team since day 1. Wanted Reindeer back, especially for Christmas.

    Here she is:

    Sels.
    Virgil. Cucurella. Williams.
    Salah. Fernandes. Palmer. Rogers. Reindeer.
    Bowen. JSL.

    Darlow. Guiu. Bijol. Esteve.

    1m ITB for Bowen > Gyro GW2

    I like the balance now.

    What say thee?

It was Mitoma before, imo. Still is now

At least until Brighton's early season form tapers off

Would love some opinions on my haaland/salah team, this is the side I’ve pretty much settled on but would just like some critiques opinions. Fully aware defence/bench is weaker but kind of sacrifice you have to make for the two big names.

    Kelleher (Darlow)
De Cuyper, Colwill, Neco Williams, (esteve)
Salah, Palmer, Gakpo, Malen, (4.5 bench)
    Haaland, Solanke (guiu)

Really good team for having the Big 3. Defense is a bit weak but to be expected

Apologies if I missed a post about this already...

Do we expect Dewsbury-Hall to have any DEFCON relevance?

    A) Gvardiol, VDV & Ndiaye

Anything glaringly terrible here? Have not looked at anything football in close to 2 months until today.

    Kelleher - Valdimarsson
    RAN - Frimpong - AWB - Konsa - Esteve
    Salah - Wirtz - Cunha - Cherki - Ramsey
    Isak - Gyo - Barnes

    Any advice appreciated

Perhaps check back in a week to see if Isak is sorted.

The longer you spend on here the closer to the template you'll get.

Thanks. Seems he's likely to go to Liverpool? Would he be worth keeping then do you think?

He's training alone & a move seems very likely, but probably won't be wrapped up in time for him to start GW1. I'm going without initially but leaving scope to get him in when ready.

I suppose this a 442. Bench is thin with 3x Burnley and only one of them a starter, which could be an issue with Isak, Gyokeres (yet to start but maybe tonight...) & Cherki (no public friendlies for City yet so we have no idea)

What's the thesis on Ndiaye? Beyond PKs and playing LEE in GW1...?

Think you've cracked the "why are people picking Ndiaye" code right there.

    Kelleher
    VVD De Cuyper VDV
    Palmer Bruno Wirtz Kudus
    Gyokeres Watkins Pedro

4.5 def and fodder on bench

      Good team?
      GK - Sanchez, Kelleher
Def - Neco, VDV, Konate, Richards, Rodon
MID- Salah, Palmer, Semenyo, Rogers, Ndiaye
      FOR - Solanke, Wood, JSL
What is the thoughts on this?
