WHAT IS FANTEAM EPL FANTASY?

Managers will be familiar with a rulebook which is more straightforward than the new-look Fantasy Premier League (FPL) format.

FanTeam is back for 2025/26 EPL Fantasy 1

Just like FPL, managers have a £100m budget to select 15 players (with no more than three per club), making weekly decisions based on captaincy and how to use their latest free transfer.

An extra transaction will cost you four points, but there are two available Wildcards – one for each half of the season.

No other chips exist in FanTeam. There aren’t any defensive contribution (DC) points either.

As for accumulating points, managers receive the same goals boost as in FPL – six for defenders, five for midfielders and four for forwards. Clean sheets bring in four points, while an assist gets three.

However, FanTeam is not completely identical:

  • Each goalkeeper save gains half a point
  • Shots on target are rewarded
  • Points occur if a player’s real-life team wins (+0.3) or loses (-0.3) while they’re on the pitch
  • There is a deduction if individuals concede a penalty or successful free-kick

To ensure fairness, no late entries will be allowed this time. Everyone starts on a level playing field from Gameweek 1.

SCOUT’S FIRST FANTEAM DRAFT

With no Gameweek 1 Bench Boost to contemplate, less squad depth is needed. Combine that with lower Mohamed Salah (£13.5m) and Erling Haaland (£13.0m) prices, and it feels like much better teams can be formed.

In fact, our initial attempt wants the luxury of both premium superstars.

FanTeam is back for 2025/26 EPL Fantasy 5

Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) is also cheaper, making him extremely tempting, but even more so is Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m) remaining as a midfielder. Used up front by West Ham United in pre-season, his out-of-position potential is strong.

It’s a shame to see Cole Palmer (£11.0m), Ollie Watkins (£9.5m), Mohammed Kudus (£7.5m) and Morgan Rogers (£7.5m) be more expensive. The latter is able to find a way in, though, because Aston Villa’s early fixtures look so good.

Elsewhere, a bunch of £4.5m midfielders look interesting, like Enzo Le Fee. Sunderland’s playmaker can start on the opening weekend because Evanilson (£6.5m) has a tricky Anfield opener.

Pedro Neto (£7.0m) is a nice Palmer alternative, but Dominic Solanke‘s (£7.5m) pre-season minutes need observing.

A lot of highly-picked FPL defenders are cheaper here, due to the lack of DC points. But to have Everton trio James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jake O’Brien all be just £4.5m is irresistible.

Yet there’s still time for twists and turns, allowing the likes of Watkins, Palmer, Chris Wood (£7.5m), Iliman Ndiaye (£6.5m), Kevin Schade (£6.0m) and Pedro Porro (£5.5m) to come under consideration.

Is anyone else giving Salah a miss? 14.5 and now 33. Think KDB a year ago.

I still reckon he'll do well but the ownerships means Haaland has the edge this season.

I'll probably start with Haaland for the first 3 and hope for a swing. Then I'll get Salah back in.

I realise I have Ndaiye, Caicedo and Rice but stats don't lie, and for the prices the 3 have offered good returns of past.

Virtually all Salah and Haaland teams seem to have Caicedo, guess that's not a bad compromise.

How has Marmoush done in the preseason?

I think he'll start and have a great season and seems to be going under the radar...
