As part of an exciting partnership with FanTeam, we at Scout recently published our first attempt at picking the perfect initial 2025/26 EPL Fantasy squad.

A blueprint is now in place, one which aims to take advantage of the small differences in point-scoring compared to Fantasy Premier League (FPL), so it’s time to reveal our Gameweek 1 selection.

With a guaranteed minimum prize pool of £175k up for grabs, the fight to finish inside the top 10% will be extremely competitive. The season-long game costs £10 to enter.

WHAT IS FANTEAM EPL FANTASY?

Managers will be familiar with this simple, straightforward format that embraces the roots of Fantasy Football.

Just like FPL, managers have a £100m budget to select 15 players (no more than three per club), making weekly decisions about captaincy and how to use the latest free transfer.

FanTeam is back for 2025/26 EPL Fantasy 1

The only chip is a Wildcard – one for each half of the season. There aren’t any defensive contribution (DC) points either.

SCOUT TEAM REVEAL

STAR PLAYERS

When picking out a strategy that considers shots on target, goals, chance creation, 90-minute completions and some strong early fixtures, the same names keep coming up: Mohamed Salah (£13.5m), Erling Haaland (£13.0m), Cole Palmer (£11.0m), Ollie Watkins (£9.5m), Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) and Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m).

Our first draft had the Salah and Haaland duo. But, while both cost less than in FPL, it still feels like one needs to be sacrificed, enabling the rest.

Let’s proceed with the Liverpool superstar.

After these, Palmer was 2024/25’s next best for shots on target (49) – each rewarded with 0.4 FanTeam points (0.6 for defenders). He also created the second-most overall chances (89), bettered only by fellow penalty-taker Fernandes (91).

Seemingly rotation-proof, the Portuguese playmaker completed 28 of the 33 starts that didn’t end in a red card. Here, midfielders and forwards who successfully play all 90 minutes are given a crucial extra point, which will often benefit Bowen too.

West Ham United’s talisman ended last season in blistering form, bagging six goals and three assists in eight matches. Unlike in FPL, Bowen retains his midfielder status here, adding further appeal. He opens this one with a favourable trip to Sunderland, while Aston Villa’s longer stretch of positive fixtures is hard to ignore. Especially with Watkins ranking joint-second for big chances last season (40).

FINALISING THE SQUAD

Elsewhere, we’re using a 3-4-3 formation because there are lots of decent £4.5m midfielders – usually from Brighton and Hove Albion – but no nailed-on forward until £5.5m.

And EPL Fantasy doesn’t require squad depth because the Bench Boost chip doesn’t exist. Now that Enzo Le Fee‘s game time feels insecure, Matt O’Riley pips Yasin Ayari and Mathias Jensen to the £4.5m spot.

That same price is attached to many appealing defenders. James Tarkowski and Maxence Lacroix ultimately get the nod, but Maxim De Cuyper and El Hadji Malick Diouf deserve a mention.

Our defence isn’t starting with any Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea or Liverpool assets, but Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams (£5.0m) has a superb opening schedule.

Meanwhile, Pedro Porro (£5.5m) showcased his attacking potential once more in the UEFA Super Cup. Last season’s second-best for crosses (196), he could dominate set-pieces now that Son Heung-min has departed and others are injured.

Completing the frontline is in-form Niclas Fullkrug (£6.5m) and Evanilson (£6.5m), whose matches look great from Gameweek 2 onwards.

Finally, another fun difference to FPL is that a 0.5 reward is given for each save, whereas FPL adds a singular point for every three of them. Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) stopped 91 shots last time.

With all pieces in place, Scout’s team is locked in and ready to go. A careful balance of proven performers, favourable fixtures and a sprinkling of calculated risks, now is when the real test begins. As the season unfolds, it’ll be fascinating to see how our selections fare, whether the star names deliver, and which budget picks emerge as unexpected heroes. Whatever happens, it promises to be an exciting ride.

Bottled it with O'Riley with the transfer talks. Can't risk him not being in the squad.

BB GW1, FH GW2 and WC GW4 gtg?

    Sanchez - Sels
Frimpong - Porro - Struijk - De Cuyper - Diouf
    Palmer (C) - Bruno - Wirtz - Kudus - Reijnders
    Watkins - Ekitiké - Pedro

Looks good, i'm just not sure of Reijnders minutes - you want 100% nailed players if playing your BB

        Ye I agree.

Rutter looks good for a 0.5 more. Would be Sels -> 4.5 I think

Looks okay but neither of the big 2 for a few weeks until the WC

But going chip heavy might help

      It looks good tbh

Isak on wildcard? That my plan.

Could easily go Haaland (C) or just get Haaland in GW2 if I'd want.
        But yes.
        No Salah for 1,2,3
        No Haaland for 1,3

        Palmer (C) GW1
        Saka/Gyo/Haaland (C) GW2
        Bruno/Palmer (C) GW3

A, too much minutes risk with Marmoush and Pedro (early subs, not just benchings). All of A are nailed until Liverpool get another forward

Sanchez by a mile. If they don't sign anyone then it's hit spot, if they do sign anyone then you get time to make the move. Tosin could be benched at any point

Hasn't their backup GK started the majority of pre-season games, though?

I owned Sanchez last season and Maresca would randomly switch GK's for a spell of a few games then switch back.

          https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/fpl-2025-26-pre-season-minutes-goals-assists-tracker

They've only played 2 pre season games and Sanchez played 90 in the last one, and every minute at club world cup apart from last group game where they rotated everyone. He's a completely safe bet if they don't buy anyone else unless he has an awful run of form (you'd sell him anyway if he got no clean sheets), no danger for first few weeks

    Sels - Dubravka
    Frimpong - Neco - Diouf - VDV - Esteve
Palmer - Wirtz - Gakpo - Anderson - Dewsbury Hall
Haaland - Watkins - Strand Larsen

I'm pretty set on no Salah, the full front line, first 3 mids and Frimpong/Neco.
Is it worth spending 0.5m extra to upgrade Dubravka for a bench boost? Don't like any of the 5m defenders to upgrade VDV to or 6m mids to upgrade Anderson.
Anywhere else worth spending the spare 0.5m?

Interesting shout, is a possible option.
If West Ham had decent fixtures I'd be all over it but if Fullkrug doesn't score week 1 then Chelsea, Forest Spurs is a tough run after that

Yeah, agreed. And it's a lot of money for 8th attacker, even with early WC.

Piroe at 5.5 is another option for GW1 BB. 3-6 not too bad.

I've been looking at BB1 as well, very likely doing FH4 and WC6

Right, after spending a bit of time with ChatGPT, I now think Marmoush is a great shout.

"After joining Man City in January 2025, Omar Marmoush played 16 of the final 17 Premier League games, starting all of them and scoring 7 goals with 1 assist; the only game he missed (MW26 vs Aston Villa) saw Haaland start. Haaland featured in 9 of Marmoush’s 16 games (8 starts, 1 sub) and missed the other 7; they started together 5 times, in which Marmoush scored all 5 of his goals that came with Haaland in the side."

Obviously that includes his hat trick against Newcastle

This question has probably been asked a thousands of time on here - but I have not seen it.

    A) Reijnders
    B) Anderson

Anderson with the higher floor and Reijnders with the higher ceiling. But do we really expect Reijnders to replicate the season he had at Milan?

I don't but it seems like pretty much everyone does.

If Reijnders scores against Wolves he will be the mother of all bandwagons.

If he doesn't, he'll be a mother farke.

If he plays a deeper role, or less that 60 minutes he will have been the mother of all traps.

Cheap midfielder not getting a goal or assist is hardly a disaster.

I think Reijnders as he's more likely to haul and thus rise in price and harder to move to

Might replicate his 23/24 season in Milan maybe. He'd never been that 10 + 4 guy before so not sure if his role changed last season or just coming of age. He might be doing a fair bit of defensive work while Rodri is being minded anyway

He doesn't need to get anywhere close to what he did last season to provide value for 5.5. If you only have to pick 1, I would choose Reijnders.

I currently have both, but like Rutter at 6 too

That's fair and you do get these odd seasons where players you least expect crop up with these attacking numbers, think Rodri put up 17 involvements in 23/24, Rice put up 15 that season too.

Depends when you plan to WC I suppose.

If you ask who'll score more in the season, I would pick Bruno. But I am starting with Wirtz and will get Bruno for GW3.
