As part of an exciting partnership with FanTeam, we at Scout recently published our first attempt at picking the perfect initial 2025/26 EPL Fantasy squad.

A blueprint is now in place, one which aims to take advantage of the small differences in point-scoring compared to Fantasy Premier League (FPL), so it’s time to reveal our Gameweek 1 selection.

With a guaranteed minimum prize pool of £175k up for grabs, the fight to finish inside the top 10% will be extremely competitive. The season-long game costs £10 to enter.

WHAT IS FANTEAM EPL FANTASY?

Managers will be familiar with this simple, straightforward format that embraces the roots of Fantasy Football.

Just like FPL, managers have a £100m budget to select 15 players (no more than three per club), making weekly decisions about captaincy and how to use the latest free transfer.

FanTeam is back for 2025/26 EPL Fantasy 1

The only chip is a Wildcard – one for each half of the season. There aren’t any defensive contribution (DC) points either.

SCOUT TEAM REVEAL

STAR PLAYERS

When picking out a strategy that considers shots on target, goals, chance creation, 90-minute completions and some strong early fixtures, the same names keep coming up: Mohamed Salah (£13.5m), Erling Haaland (£13.0m), Cole Palmer (£11.0m), Ollie Watkins (£9.5m), Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) and Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m).

Our first draft had the Salah and Haaland duo. But, while both cost less than in FPL, it still feels like one needs to be sacrificed, enabling the rest.

Let’s proceed with the Liverpool superstar.

After these, Palmer was 2024/25’s next best for shots on target (49) – each rewarded with 0.4 FanTeam points (0.6 for defenders). He also created the second-most overall chances (89), bettered only by fellow penalty-taker Fernandes (91).

Seemingly rotation-proof, the Portuguese playmaker completed 28 of the 33 starts that didn’t end in a red card. Here, midfielders and forwards who successfully play all 90 minutes are given a crucial extra point, which will often benefit Bowen too.

West Ham United’s talisman ended last season in blistering form, bagging six goals and three assists in eight matches. Unlike in FPL, Bowen retains his midfielder status here, adding further appeal. He opens this one with a favourable trip to Sunderland, while Aston Villa’s longer stretch of positive fixtures is hard to ignore. Especially with Watkins ranking joint-second for big chances last season (40).

FINALISING THE SQUAD

Elsewhere, we’re using a 3-4-3 formation because there are lots of decent £4.5m midfielders – usually from Brighton and Hove Albion – but no nailed-on forward until £5.5m.

And EPL Fantasy doesn’t require squad depth because the Bench Boost chip doesn’t exist. Now that Enzo Le Fee‘s game time feels insecure, Matt O’Riley pips Yasin Ayari and Mathias Jensen to the £4.5m spot.

That same price is attached to many appealing defenders. James Tarkowski and Maxence Lacroix ultimately get the nod, but Maxim De Cuyper and El Hadji Malick Diouf deserve a mention.

Our defence isn’t starting with any Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea or Liverpool assets, but Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams (£5.0m) has a superb opening schedule.

Meanwhile, Pedro Porro (£5.5m) showcased his attacking potential once more in the UEFA Super Cup. Last season’s second-best for crosses (196), he could dominate set-pieces now that Son Heung-min has departed and others are injured.

Completing the frontline is in-form Niclas Fullkrug (£6.5m) and Evanilson (£6.5m), whose matches look great from Gameweek 2 onwards.

Finally, another fun difference to FPL is that a 0.5 reward is given for each save, whereas FPL adds a singular point for every three of them. Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) stopped 91 shots last time.

With all pieces in place, Scout’s team is locked in and ready to go. A careful balance of proven performers, favourable fixtures and a sprinkling of calculated risks, now is when the real test begins. As the season unfolds, it’ll be fascinating to see how our selections fare, whether the star names deliver, and which budget picks emerge as unexpected heroes. Whatever happens, it promises to be an exciting ride.

No, if that's your bench, I'd wait until Dubravka and Guiu get over their fitness issues. Don't go off half-cocked.

Further to my previous message, I now see that they've lost their yellow tinge... so they could be fit for GW1 - unless it's the website playing up... which wouldn't surprise me!!

Just looking for a bit more feedback, positive or negative and any weaknesses that might be rectified. I’m seriously considering BB so opinions on that would also be gratefully received. Thanks everyone.

I did consider dropping him but his ownership is so high. I’d rather be in a position to downgrade if I have to rather than sit on the outside looking in and watch him take apart a new Bournemouth defence. I’m not sold on Wurtz yet as a FPL asset. He looked very tired by the end of the last game and probably needs a few more PL games. At this stage I’m sticking with tried and tested as much as possible.

Not too concerned. Think it is as you say a slight knock and I don’t want to have to fuff about with transfers when he’s fit again if I can help it. It is a gamble I know, but the odds look ok.

Someone on last page said Welbeck unlikely to start. Seems like just FUD or anything substantial? He has played in pre season and they sold Joao Pedro only replacing him wiht an 18 year old who hasnt even featured in pre season.

scout says rutter starts up in front. keep in mind, welbeck is often out with injuries (as long as i had him last season…)

    2. Old Bull

Think he will play but whether he starts I’m not so sure. I think Brighton will be looking at diminishing their reliance on his goals this season because of his age. Think he might share his minutes more.

Sorry it was me. The predicted line-up on this site predicts this, and I think I read that he played for a second string when Brighton played their last friendly. Of course he might come off bench and score anyway, so don't let me put you off! Good Luck

I am also tempted. But Anderson is the safer pick. Is nailed, gets defcon and takes set-pieces.
Reijnders could be rotated/benched and might play more deep with Rodri out.

Tarkowski was in all my drafts until yesterday. Branthwaite being injured put me off.
Everton will not only concede more now but last season when Keane and Tarkowski were the CBs in some games, Keane actually got more defcon. So Tarkowski's role seems to change when playing with Branthwaite or Keane.

Thanks, yeah will be keeping an eye out on that situation. Slot still thinks they need one more attacker.

Maybe Piroe or whoever emerges at Sunderland. I'd want to see how they look in the first few gameweeks do so there is a risk of picking a 5.5m from the start.

Not gonna comment on Everton, but I think Gakpo is nailed until Isak arrives.

Slight overspend on keepers but think I'm locked in:

    Sels
    Porro, Milenkovic, Wan-Bissaka
    Salah, Saka, Rice, Kudus, Reijnders
    Watkins, Bowen

Petrovic; Strand Larsen, De Cuyper, Esteve

For those who can remember their first drafts, how many are still in your team? 8 for me: Petrovic, Porro, Milenkovic, AWB, Salah, Saka, Bowen and Strand Larsen.

Palmer is a worry but Saka can match him over the first two, then we'll see. Not bothered about their defence, could go Sanchez but prefer the Forest double up. Not interested in starting with Joao Pedro but easy to get him if needed.

I think I only have 3 or 4 that I had in the first draft: Salah, Watkins, Verbruggen and maybe Wood. Watkins didn't stay from the start though, I had him replaced for a short while, and then got him back.

Is tarkowski less in favour now since brainthwaite injury? He was in many teams before, he's one of the top defensive contributors but now is he not so great?

Players can fall from grace after 15 minutes of the match so this doesn’t surprise me.
