FPL Gameweek 1 Scout Picks: Four double-ups

With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2025/26 getting underway tomorrow, it’s time to finalise our Gameweek 1 Scout Picks.

As usual, our Scout Picks selection is influenced by the Scout Squad submissions made by Neale (Editor), Tom (Deputy Editor), Sam (General Manager) and Marc (Staff Writer).

There are certain restrictions for our picks, however:

  • An £83.0m budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

GAMEWEEK 1 SCOUT PICKS

GOALKEEPER

Robert Sanchez (£5.0m) gets the nod in goal after being chosen by two of our Scout Squad pundits. The FIFA Club World Cup champions, Chelsea, are set to face Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. Oliver Glasner’s troops have plenty of firepower, but the Blues enjoyed the third-best home record in the Premier League last season, conceding just 18 goals. The Club World Cup was a clear mark of progression, too, with Paris-Saint Germain among four clubs shut out.

With Marc Guehi (£4.5m) and Eberechi Eze (£7.5m) both linked with moves away from Selhurst Park this week, we’re hoping Palace are sufficiently disrupted to allow Sanchez to bag us a clean sheet as well as save points.

      Probably the Salah one edges it but the other 3 are better in A.

      Not for me. Wood is absolutely fine, but they've already signed Igor & are signing another forward too. Obviously expect Wood to keep starting - but he already got plenty of early subs around 70-80 mins or so last season. If Wood might get early subs too, why not go for the guy playing in the better attacking team, with better recent form? (Pens aside). Plus I like the Forest defense better.

      If ya went Sanchez to a 4.5, and a kdh as 8th attacker you would have the cushion too.

      I've got both, with is probably a mistake - but appreciate the potential value at that price point.

      Why? To benefit from Anderson's DefCon, you're just gonna have to start him. So he'll start in my team most weeks (unless it's like 3-4 of nothing...). Reijnders for me is the punt. Believe he starts, has a good recent goal record last season & is playing in a team that scores plenty.

      If either of them flunk, I can move them out to an alternative 5.5m, or even a 5.0m. Or upgrade, if I decide to ship off Pedro or a more expensive defender after a couple of weeks.

    The current casuals template (highest combined ownership costing 100.0 and with no more than 3 players per team) is something like:

    Frimpong(LIV,6.0, 30.4%), Wan-Bissaka(WHU,4.5, 28.1%), Van de Ven(TOT,4.5, 25.1%), Konsa(AVL,4.5, 24.0%), Ait-Nouri(MCI,6.0, 20.8%)
    Palmer(CHE,10.5, 60.5%), M.Salah(LIV,14.5, 53.3%), Wirtz(LIV,8.5, 34.9%), Kudus(TOT,6.5, 24.5%), A.Ramsey(BUR,4.5, 11.1%)
    Joao Pedro(CHE,7.5, 55.3%), Gyokeres(ARS,9.0, 26.0%), Marc Guiu(4.5, 15.1%)

    The casuals do not appear to be very aware of Defensive Contributions points!

      There is someone in my ML who plays this way. They start with the highest combined ownership team and then look at the most transferred in or out player each GW to determine transfers. They don't do that badly in OR tbh for what they say is about 5 mins work a week. They started with this team as I believe Porro and Watkins replaced Ait-Nouri and Watkins at the deadline:

          They finished just inside 300k. I accept it isn't stellar, but this is someone who spends like 5 mins a week on FPL and generally makes their transfers on a Friday afternoon.

      With Salah as captain, a 4-4-2 formation and Dubravka, Konsa, Ramsey and Marc Guiu on the bench, this squad would have scored
      8+1+1+6+9+3+(8*2)+2+10+2+1=59 points in Gameweek 1.
      Only one point less than the best of The Great and The Good, and a lot more than I got myself (I didn't have Van de Ven, Ait-Nouri, Salah or Kudus).
      But the bench would only have scored 2+3+0+0=5, so it wouldn't have been good for a Bench Boost.

      As Diesel101 points out below, the template had changed slightly by the deadline, with Pedro Porro (6) and Watkins (2) replacing Ait-Nouri (9) and Gyokeres (1), which would reduce the total by 2 points, but still not bad.

          Nope. I think you're looking at it wrong. If he flops, it just means our Captain flopped this gameweek. No great shakes... The only way you can profit from it, is if he flops AND your chosen Captain hauls.

      Yep, I have thoughts... I hate it. If you put Salah in you're not married to him... You can drop him for Saka for GW2, but with his ownership, if he hauls... I'll put you at the 4m mark to start the season at!!
